I thought it was Friday. All I know is that Clinton is allegedly pissed that he's not on the list of speakers.

You might be right. I could easily be wrong.

Nah Mike, your completly right mate.

To D.C. on Wednesday

From California, the former president’s casket will be flown Wednesday to Andrews Air Force Base in Washington. A horse-drawn carriage will carry the casket, accompanied by a single drummer, to the Capitol that evening.

Public viewing of the casket will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET Wednesday after an arrival ceremony at 7 p.m. closed to all except the family, members of Congress, visiting heads of state and other government officials. The Capitol Rotunda will remain open 24 hours a day until early Friday morning.

More than 100,000 people are expected to pay their respects at the Capitol. Cameras will be forbidden, and backpacks and other bags will be strongly discouraged. All those wishing to view the former president’s body will have to pass through metal detectors and will be subject to search.

A state funeral will follow late Friday morning at Washington National Cathedral, where President Bush will deliver the eulogy. Bush proclaimed Friday a day of national mourning and closed the federal government for the day.

The business of the U.S. government was expected to be subdued for the rest of the week, as well. In the Senate, Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said no votes would be held except for those related to resolutions honoring Reagan.

World leaders are expected to attend the funeral. Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher confirmed that they would be there, as well. That event also is closed to the public.

And Sen. John Kerry, who has announced plans to briefly furlough his presidential campaign out of respect to Reagan's memory, will attend funeral services for the former president on Friday, a spokeswoman said.

Since Mike brought up the Clinton story, I have to post this shit:

Story

The comment by Jennings, which the MRC’s Jessica Anderson caught, occurred at about 11:30am PDT (2:30pm EDT) just as Nancy and the Reagan family drove away from the library. Jennings asked Reagan biographer Lou Cannon about Reagan’s wishes for burial, which will be on the grounds of the library. Cannon, off camera, recalled for Jennings: “Nancy Reagan said something interesting to me once about it. She said, I asked her about the site of the library and the burial place, and she said my husband had a preference for heights. And this is on, as you can see, a commanding height with this really lovely, very California view.”

That somehow prompted this from Jennings: “A great many people in the country know Simi Valley less for the presidential library than they do for it having been the scene of the trial of the officers who were accused in Los Angeles of beating the motorist Rodney King.”

EDIT: Oh, yeah -- omg Brent BOZO lol2004...

Merv Griffin is going to be one of the Paul Bearers according to my local newspaper.

It's truely remarkable hearing about the number of people who wait first in line for bus services to the ranch, and than in line for 4-5 hours to view the coffin.

What a dipfuck.

I subjected myself to ABC Worldnews before the Stanley Cup finals. Sam Donaldson seemingly had no qualms about using a Bush Sr. interview, due to Reagan's death, to take a shot at W. I couldn't believe the depths some people sink to.

Now I went to Journalist school, and one of the basics we were told to do is give background info on a story if needed. Kinda like how Big Media likes to remind us that John Kerry served in Vietnam every time he talks about the Iraq war.

But I have no clue as to the connection between Rodney King and Ronnie. Umm, Reagan allowed the CIA to bring crack into King's neighborhood? That's my best guess...

I read that, too. Good God I hope this isn't true, because if it is Bill is a pathetic little man.

BTW: The last few days got me thinking -- how would Clinton be remembered when he passes away?...

Clinton will be viewed as a fairly ineffective President. There just isn't a ton of substance to the man and his post-office years haven't really changed that.

I wish I got your big media. Round here the Vietnam stuff only comes up when it's relevant. Unless Kerry is talking, in which case the homeless problem can be solved with something involving his service in Vietnam.

I don't know what the hell is up with Jennings anymore, actually. I know Dan Rather occasionally throws out an oddball, but he seems to do it to suprise and amuse. Jennings just says shit that doesn't make sense and then looks straightfaced about it.

No, what I meant was how would the media treat his passing, and would people wait 12 hours in line to see his coffin...

I'd be shocked.

"Big Media" LOL2004! will probably treat him well.

and would people wait 12 hours in line to see his coffin...

No. That I'm sure won't be happening. He was popular, but he doesn't inspire the same amount of emotion.

The Rodney King comment just baffles me.

Why does Tom Brokaw have to retire at the end of the year? Why can't it be Jennings? I get endless more hours of amusement from Tom and his speech impediment than I do from Jennings and his bizarre ramblings.

kkk, they also tell us to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety... maybe our lovable anchors were sick that day.

The problem for Clinton is that his legacy will be, "Eh, the economy was good." Even the legacy is up for debate, but that's what it will be... not exactly the most inspiring 8 years.

I've been watching the state funeral. Some observations:

It's now okay to show a flag covered coffin on TV?

For some bizarre reason, Nancy was treating her walk behind the cofffin as an Oscar night red carpet affair - she was smiling and waving to observers. VERY strange actions. I would have thought that she would have been fairly sombre.

When his coffin was put on the horse drawn carriage, why did the observers clap and cheer? Did someone score a touchdown or something? Perhaps i'm too reserved but at a funeral I don't think that clapping and cheering is the correct response to make.

Regarding the airplane that flew over earlier: was this a stunt to remind us that terrorists are still a threat or what? How obvious!

Margaret Thatcher is too ill to attend...is she on her last legs?

Just a few observations...

RIP Mr Reagan.

Wow, thanks.

Perhaps I am being a little negative here.

My general point is that as a society Americans are a very exciteable bunch

Always trying to start some trouble, huh Rant?

If someone is going to try and cut a heel promo, at least do it well. Don't say something like "Wouldn't it be kewl if Reagan fell out of his casket and said 'Woah, what a dream'? Ronnie is the SUQ."

EDIT: MARK OUT MOMENT -- hunger4unger just AIM'd me!!! My panties are getting wet...
