I have played this game for half an hour and right now I can say best presentation ever in a Sports Videogame. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I went into halftime and Chris Berman shows off all the highlights from first half. It is not even the fact that they showed them off but it was the fact that the audio matchedup the visual quite well during the replays.

Ok as a first time ESPN Football player I have hit a frustration point with the QB position. Now if you have some advice for me please tell.....

Whenever I drop back to throw, it seems like the QB will refuse to throw it unless he is standing there PERFECTLY and the receiver is WIDE OPEN. MY QB is getting stuck in the backfield like a duck on just about every passing play I run. What the hell is this, and why can't I get my QB to throw on the run?

I did read the manual, and it said you can throw on the run and if the QB is scrambling or not set, but the accuracy will go down, which is fine and I understand, but whenever my QB is not PERFECTLY set, he just pump fakes it all to hell about 5 times, while the DL breaks through the line......UGH. Help.

You're probably bashing one of the pass buttons. Hitting it more than once = pump fake. It can be a little hard to get used to, especially when you're under pressure and you just want to ditch the damn ball. Just remember, one button push, that's it, and you should have no problems throwing on the run. It's a lot easier to start off as a pocket passer though, and move up to a more mobile QB later on.

Yeah, sometimes my QBs won't throw either if he isn't set.. make sure you're letting the COMPUTER do the dropbacks for you and not doing your usual Madden/NCAA manual dropbacks. Take time to read the D as the CPU dropbacks for you and then pass it.

Guys, I bet this a great game and all- and the $20 price tag says buy now! But I am not ready to shell about $120 (the game, the HDD for ps2 and the Action Replay Memory Card for the updated roster) for a while yet. I mean ITS 2 months to football season. And I still have a roster of games to get- and who knows what the real ratings are or who gets traded to diffent teams, or who will get hurt.

I know the waiting will make it even more sweeter. :) (and then I will have the cash to get what I need)

You really don't need the HDD for the PS2 -- all you're missing is movies instead of stills of halftime/post-game highlights and some other things.

The only bad, bad thing I'm hearing about the game stems from Franchise mode as it seems the CPU AI is making crazy, stupid trades. I've yet to touch Franchise mode, however, but still bad anyway.

I'm enthralled in NCAA right now, but I need a pro fix as well.

What he said.

I need my pro fix, as well.

Should be a challenge to use franchise mode as my favorite team (49ers) this time, with them being a crappy team in the game, and all.

I'm trying to get the hang of the prepping up for the week.

I thought the video footage was only for XBOX. So you can actually have it if you have the HD for PS2?

So I played it for about 6 hours yesterday in a row, a good portion of which was spent fucking around with the custom stadium music, basic training, and playing my first preseason game against the Colts in franchise mode.

To be honest, while the game speed is a bit slower, what impresses me the most coming over from the Madden franchise are the animations. EVERYTHING in the game just goes so fluidly and so smooth, it's amazing. The gang tackles, the sacks, the running, the passing, the catching, everything inside the game is so amazingly smooth, it makes it really fun to play.

At first I kind of took offense at having the CPU dropback for me (What, you don't think I can do it on my own, ESPN? I've been doing this for years, boy!) but then actually I got over it pretty quickly since it gives you time to read the defense and get set into position quickly. I've still gotta get used to throwing on the run though, or not standing around like a lame duck, because I've gotten sacked in every single game I've played thus far. I still whipped that annoying bitch Carmen Electra's ass though. Why did she have to be so irritating for this game? In other things I've seen her in (mainly that Dave & Carmen thing) she wasn't nearly as annoying. The worst was showing her coach while I was winning 36-13 and she was saying "coachy woachy needs to smiley wiley!". Even though there was only a couple minutes left in the game, for that comment alone it inspired me to go score two more touchdowns to get the 50 points.

I can tell pretty quickly that the ESPN presentation thing is going to get annoying for me, but this game is totally optimized for Xbox. I haven't had the insane loading times I've had for Madden, or the lag, the only thing bad about the presentations is the mouths don't match up the audio too well, ESPECIALLY on the Suzy Kolber postgame. That's also been a pretty funny thing, when I have Bart Starr with the 1967 Packers and Ahman Green in 2004 saying the exact same things, and they both sounded like angry black men.

It's very hard to resist it's calling now... must..play...ESPN...but do homework first...argh...

I traded Rich Gannon, Barret Robbins, and Denard Walker for Ben Ro and a 2nd round pick.

Thats a fucking steal, mang. And I cut an assload of salery.

Question..is anyone actually good at preparing their players? Cuz I know I suck at it.

For one, I don't know how to get Team Focus up well...morale is as high as possible...but focus stays in like the middle. And as for player results, most in the end are -1 or -2 :(. Still come out on top in the games..but that part, I suck at. Don't know if I'm not working enough or working them to hard.

I suck at it too but managed to get my RB Musa Smith at the time from an 82-83 by pure luck. If you have the X-Box, you can press the X button and train certain players which helps(I remember it's weight training, can't remember if it's drills too)

I'm pretty good at getting my players morale up and improving most positions. My only concern is that I can't increase focus (although, it hasn't dropped either), but I think I might be able to fix that. I'll have to see. When I get home from school, I'll post up my weekly regiments that I give to my crew.

I've got a basic idea of how I can improve my weekly regiments.

Dammit you guys are making me DROOL over this game now.

I preordered it from eBGames so it should be here Friday or Saturday.

Yesturday I dumped like 30+ songs on the HD of the Xbox just to have more choices for the stadium sounds.

I have been playing 2k4 NON STOP just building the anticipation up for the game.

Shit, I CANNOT wait! I played probably close to 200 games on 2k4. And i'm still learning new techniques. It's a very deep game in my book.

BTW, for the people who need tips on the game...which system are you playing it on?

If it's on the Xbox I can give tips thats 100x more in depth than the PS2 version.

I am having problems try to set up the depth chart for the NFL teams to be accurate. Here is where my problem lies, when you go to change the depth chart for the kick and punt returns you can only select one person to be the returner. You can't change who you want to be on the 2 or 3 team on the kick return or punt return. Does anyone know how to fix this?

How do you individually train players? Anyone know? For ps2...

I know. When you get into the actually thing for say, Quarterbacks, you can change it to a specific player by pressing square.

So if you are setting a Low Alternative Method for say, Michael Vick, when you figure out that's what you want, do not click start or whatever, but hit square. I repeated just to add emphazise.

I just simmed through to Week 10 of a quick Franchise just to see what occurred and there was definitely some questionable trading, releasing, signing and such but nothing that is going to make me say "OMG ESPN = DEAD" to me. Big trades, cuts, signing, etc. seems to be a big problem in both pro basketball games and last year's Madden (not so much trades, cuts, etc. but rookies starting instead of veterans). I'll just live with it and keep chugging.

EDIT: I have updated rosters for Xbox Action Replay if anybody wants 'em.

This.

Basically, what you do is install the software, hook up the dock into an USB port, put the memory card into the dock (either an offical one or the one provided -- the one provided sucks), run the AR software, download your file (rosters or what have you, it's usually a zip file), drag and drop that zip file into the AR software where your memory card is... wait until it fills orange and you're good to go.

The Raiders are fucking bad ass in this game. Especially with Roelthisberger, the man who will be the steal of the 2004 draft. CWood is all over the place and Porter is making the HUGE receptions. Look out AFC West.

How bad is the memory card provided? And how much would it cost to get a good one?

I'm new to the NFL 2K world, i'm a Madden guy. But... I like to keep an open mind, and with a $20.00 pricetag, it's worth a purchase. I'll be going to pick it up after I get my paycheck this afternoon.

I'm going to get it for PS2 (Don't have an X-Box right now) So break it down for me, what's on that X-Box version that I can't get for PS2 ? Just Berman doing Sportscenter ? It sounded like a cool addition to the game, but I won't be pissed if I can't do it.

Berman doing sportscenter is in the PS2 version...

And it's bad ass at that...it's actually cool that you can see what happens in the other, simmed games.
