I'm having a hard time keeping track of everyone who said they're not going to play, so if anyone I name here has already said "no" than my bad. Can anyone post a list of who's already out? Anyway, here's my squad that I'd bring:

Backcourt

Mike Bibby

Paul Pierce

Rip Hamilton

LeBron James

Allen Iverson

Dwyane Wade

Frontcourt

Carmelo Anthony

Tim Duncan

Amare Stoudemire

Kevin Garnett

Elton Brand

Vince Carter

Garnett, Bibby, Carter, and I think Pierce have all said no.

On a related note. What about this idea. Make the Olympic roster either under 25, except for 3 or 4 spots reserved for veteran players.

Might as well just Make the All-Rookie Team the New "dream team" since seemingly anyone with 2 years plus expirence is ducking out of this thing...

NBA players simply don't care because the Games are RIGHT after the end of the season and right before the start giving all like 2 weeks of a break.

It used to be College Players...perhaps we might as well send the top High School talent to Athens instead.

Carlos Boozer will be a great edition to the team, as he will be content grabbing 15 rebounds per game, which is unusual for an Olympic player.

I really wonder what Rip or Ben Wallace will do, they've played about 20 extra games so I don't how much Larry Brown will want them to play.

I hate how sports writers are calling the players that are backing out cowards and selfish.

Yeah, Ray Allen, you can always have kids. GO PLAY BASKETBALL...get you priorites right.

Sure Jason Kidd, you can't walk right now...but FUCK THAT NOISE...go play.

Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter...You can get married during the season. Nothing say love like having to leave the wedding reception early to catch a flight to play the Bulls.

People are dropping out for once in a life time(maybe) opportunities(Kevin, Vince, Ray) or injury(Kidd) and a few are just worried for safety. They have every right to not want togo. Here is a wacky idea...how about send players that ask to go and not just say "HEY, you...go because you are popular now!!"

Let's just send the Atlanta Hawks...so that way if anything does happen...we can get rid of that shitty franchise for good.

College kids should be on the team. Olympic basketball means absolutly nothing right now, and goes against everything the games are suppose to stand for. I know this isn't the preaching wanted in this thread, but it's just crap.

The critics just LOVE ripping Vince, don't they?

Play for your country... or say "I do" to the one you love? Yeah, tough decision there.

yeah but on the flipside of things, perhaps there can be a "miracle on the court" thing for some other country like we had with hockey...i'd love to see the NBA guys get worked in the Olympics, though i know it won't happen...

Atlanta is a great city too, i'm really suprised more guys haven't wanted to play there simply for the citylife alone...doesn't location sometimes play a factor on where a guy wants to play? i haven't paid much attention lately, but that organization must really be fucked up...

With all the free agents, there might not be an Atlanta Hawks in summer.

I think they have 3-4 people under contract. There isn't a Atlanta Hawks.

Therefore using that theory, the Hawks do NOT suck since they have no players. HA.

...

Whats even worse, the hawks have to give up someone in the expansion draft...so they will have all of 2 guys under contract.

OR they could shock the world with thier team. They ahve 2 first round picks and 3 second rounders. They only have Jason Terry, Boris Diaw, Chris Crawford, and Wesley Person under contract. There is honesty no way in the world to know what their team is going to be.

Damn shame when the only highpoint of a team for the past few years is the day they have noone playing for them.

Fuck the NBA...send the And 1 team

isn't that essentially what they're sending? other than Tim Duncan, most of those guys are highlight reels and basketball shoe commercial stars (guys known better for dunking and fingerrolls/layups and looking pretty rather than all the intangibles), though Rip and Ben may change that...

Most of the guys are as fundamentally sound as anyone in the world. Iverson is one of the best ballhandlers in history. You're judging based on the image the NBA is attempting to sell, but the players ARE well-rounded players.

i suppose, al, but they sure do sell it well...basically for me, the NBA isn't interesting enough to follow if my team isn't doing shit, which the Knicks haven't been doing for about 3 or 4 years now...but i'm glad i have you guys to set me straight!

What they could do is help rejuvinate the players that did not make the playoffs during this past year. Take one player from each team that did not make the playoffs (13), so they have the honor to bring the gold home and feel better about themselves. You can have a team consisting of these players.

Allen Iverson

Tracy McGrady (If Not = Drew Gooden)

Stephen Jackson

LeBron James

Gilbert Arenas

Vince Cartner (If Not = Chris Bosh)

Eddy Curry or Jamal Crawford

Elton Brand/Richardson/Maggette

Jason Richardson/Erick Dampier

Zack Randolph/Darius Miles

Ray Allen

Jazz = Matt Harpring?

Amare Stoudemire/Shawn Marion

These players, well most of them should be motivated to play. A team of these players who would play roles isn't bad either.

I don't think the motivation factor would outweigh the talent. If it did, bad teams would always play better the next season, and good teams would play worse.

But this isn't a bad team. This is a team of the best players of those bad teams, who can prove a point that they really are good.

Carmelo Anthony isn't on the team because they already have too many "Swingmen" on the team. Lies, what kind of bullshit excuse is that ? Yet, Lebron James is on the team...

So, are we playing favorites now ?

So, Ripper, any bets on them putting Terry on the expansion draft list?

I'm trying to think of the dumbest move they can make --- since it usually is the path chosen.

Sportswriters can slam this all they want. The NHL halted its season so its players could go throw down in the Olympics, and almost every country other than the US takes extreme pride in their Olympic athletes to the point where athletes from other countries doing stuff like this would be considered shameful by not only their entire countries, but by themselves.

This will be I THINK the finalized Olympic roster:

Carlos Boozer

LeBron James

Ben Wallace

Dwayne Wade

Richard Jefferson

Stephon Marbury

Allen Iverson

Shawn Marion

Amare Stoudemire

Tim Duncan

The final two spots are expected to go to Lamar Odom and Rip Hamilton. It's been said that Odom will accept the invitation, but hasn't officially yet, while Hamilton has voiced security concerns. If Hamilton declines, Michael Redd will get the spot.
