The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 The Cavs front office is a collection of fucking idiots to take the risk they did and they are getting exactly what they deserve. Jim Paxson should be gut-and-quartered on Public Square tomorrow for this. This whole thing was the dumbest front office move in the history of Cleveland sports (and trust me, that covers a lot of ground). I'm so fucking pissed off about this. Growing up in Cleveland, I was a big Cavs fan. I just graduated college, I'm back in C-town, and I was really looking forward to that group making a playoff run this year (and the next few years). Now, they're royally fucked. And trust me, it was going to be next to impossible to keep LeBron here before. Now, he's probably already packing his bags for his next destination, even with 3 years left on his rookie contract. God, this is so Cleveland.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Cavs = idiots for trying to slick with Boozer... Anyway... Word is Mem. might be close to a sign and trade for Kobe and a Miami-LA trade is in the works for Shaq (Miami would be dumb to pull it off)...
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Where is your word from, Flyboy? Mitch Kupchak has gone on record as saying they won't do a sign and trade for Kobe, however that doesn't mean they won't do one.
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Why would Miami be dumb for getting Shaq? He'd be happy to be out of LA, and he'd be motivated to stick it to everybody that said he's fading fast. Plus, all the good centers are in the West. He'd run roughshod over the East for a good 3-4 years.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I suppose if Cleveland is going to piss away the season this wouldn't be a bad time to do it. Not only is there possibly a labour disruption on the horizon, but the 2005 draft looks like it could be stacked.

Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 If Isiah can't land Kobe (which he probrably won't), I can see him trying to make a play for LeBron in the next few years. LeBron will probrably demand a trade, the Knicks will dump Houston or Marbury and whoever and Isiah and the Knicks will get their man before his rookie contract runs out. Then once that runs out, the Knicks will give LeBron a max contract and he'll be a staple of the Knicks. I'm not a Knicks fan or anything, but I've been an Isiah Thomas fan for awhile and that is a move I think he'll go for.

I'm not a Knicks fan or anything, but I've been an Isiah Thomas fan for awhile and that is a move I think he'll go for. I think that Lebron will be very happy to stay in Cleveland. He's from there, and they are building the team around him. He'll get max money from them eventually and it will be his team. The way that the Bulls will now always be Jordan's team, the Cavs could be the same for Lebron.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I can agree with that if Cleveland shows upward growth in the next 2-3 years. If not, I can see a guy like Isiah throwing around money and the lure of the big city to LeBron. BTW, LA Times is reporting that Kobe has ruled out the NY Knicks and Denver Nuggets as possible homes and has narrowed down his choices to the Clippers and the Lakers. IMO, Kobe is waiting to see if and when the Lakers can move Shaq. If they won't, don't be surprised to see Kobe actually leave, but I doubt it.
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Trade rumor I just read at NBA.com Cavs get: Kerry Kittles Nets get: Dajuan Wagner, Eric Williams, Kedrick Brown I wouldn't miss Juany or Kedrick Brown at all, but losing Eric Williams would hurt. He's a true pro. I felt like that trade that sent Ricky Davis to Boston last year was a steal for the Cavs.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Why would Miami be dumb for getting Shaq? They'd be stupid because they have to give up Lamar Odom to do it. No way do you give up somebody that young and good for a man who can't run the floor anymore and is only dominant because the refs allow him to knock people about. razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Ginobili re-upping with the Spurs puts them out of the Kobe sweepstakes. I don't think Kobe would of fit in with the team. If Kobe wanted to be The MAN and carry a team to the championship by himself then he better look elsewhere. Besides I don't think that Kobe was serious about playing for the Spurs in the 1st place but rather using this as a threat so that he could be more money from the Lakers. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Trade rumor I just read at NBA.com Cavs get: Kerry Kittles Nets get: Dajuan Wagner, Eric Williams, Kedrick Brown Being a Nets fan. I'd love that trade. As far as Martin leaving to ATL, it would be strictly because of money. Who cares, I'm more scared of Richard Jefferson leaving next season then Martin leaving. RJ will be a superstar, and will be a all-star next year. Mark my words.

Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Trade rumor I just read at NBA.com Cavs get: Kerry Kittles Nets get: Dajuan Wagner, Eric Williams, Kedrick Brown This could be a smart move by the Cavs, pick up cap money for future space. Like the other poster said, Cleveland needs cap space sooner, rather than later so they can sign some big time FA's before LeBron's rookie deal ends and they lose much space. Of course this "smart move" is following a terrible one which will ultimately lose Carlos Boozer.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Bowen signed for 4 years $14 million with 4th year option of additional $2 million. The recent contract signing So far it looks like the Spurs spent $50 on Ginobili + $22 on Barry + $14 on Bowen for a total of $84 million this offseason. Well it looks like Greg Popavich was a student of Don Nelson's school of focus on the guards and forget the forward idealogy.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Spurs still need to get a Center that can do anything, also by losing Turkolu they're very weak at the SF position.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Spurs need some good rebounders more than anything maybe at the Olympics Larry Brown can influence Popavich into signing some Fowards like the Wallaces or Prince. Rasho Nesterovich is the center but the big problem with him is that he never goes to the free throw line and Rasho tends to pass the easy shot instead of going for the dunk. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Sources have told ESPN's Jim Gray on Friday night that if the Heat agree to trade Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and either Caron Butler or a No. 1 draft pick, then the Lakers will trade Shaquille O'Neal. It is Miami's decision to make and to inform the Lakers. In Thursday's editions, the Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise reported that the Lakers, intent on trading the disgruntled center, might make such a deal with the Heat. The Lakers have been considering a handful of the 17 or 18 offers it has received for the center, the paper reported. "Just like the coach deal with Phil [Jackson] being let go, Dr. Buss thinks it's time to deal Shaq," a team source told the paper. Heat president Pat Riley, who recently was considered for the Lakers' head coaching job, confirmed talking to Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak about O'Neal. "I mean, Tracy McGrady got traded, he was on the market," Riley told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I've heard three or four other great-name players that are on the market, Shaq being one of 'em. You've got to pursue 'em. You're foolish if you don't try to pursue 'em and at least listen. Nothing's happened. Everything right now is so premature." Meanwhile, the Lakers are close to replacing Phil Jackson with coach Rudy Tomjanovich. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reports that the deal to hire Tomjanovich is basically finished, with negotiations now centering on who will be on the coaching staff. At the same time, free agent Kobe Bryant met with four teams, including the Lakers and the Clippers. Tomjanovich tried to contact O'Neal, the Press-Enterprise reported, and Shaq left a message in response. "I just feel terrible for Rudy because I wanted to play for him," O'Neal said, according to the Press-Enterprise. "But I ain't coming back there." Sources told the Press-Enterprise that O'Neal's representatives have shot down potential deals. The Kings, one of the teams O'Neal is willing to play for, reportedly backed away from talks. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reports that any deal involving O'Neal could also involve a third team since the Pacers or Mavericks have been involved in these discussions, but that nothing is imminent. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Miami getting Shaq, even for a short time, is a good deal. Shaq would practically have his way against any team in the East just because os his size. There really isn't a dominant center in the East, aside from Ben Wallace. If Wade and the rest of the team would stand up, I could easily see the Heat with Shaq making it to the Eastern Conference finals.
The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 I don't like that deal. Odom is a KG like player and the future of Miami. I'd rather give him time to develop than trade for Shaq, who might not even re-sign with Miami next year. Now that I think about it, I'd rather see no team at all trade for Shaq and make him stay in LA for another season. If his grumpiness and bad attitude stays in LA, it could be the worst thing to happen to the Lakers.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 The deal isn't necessarily the best in the long term, but after Shaq leaves, they will have a hell of a lot of money available to play with since they won't have to pay him any more, and I'm sure Heat merch would be all the rage so their licensing/product sales would go up.
