DerangedHermit Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 http://cbs.sportsline.com/nhl/story/7454578 RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Ottawa Senators traded goaltender Patrick Lalime to the St. Louis Blues on Sunday for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft........
Urban Warfare Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 The Blues just drafted a goalie...But anyways, this obviously means that Dominik Hasek will be going to Ottawa.
Lightning Flik Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 They traded Patrick Lalime for a FOURTH ROUND DRAFT PICK? Come on, they could've done better than that.
treble Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 His trade value wasn't exactly sky-high after his performance in game 7 against the Leafs.
Slingshot Suplex Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Maybe they got so little for him cause they're trying to free up as much money as they can for Hasek. And where does Chris Osgood go from here? He probably makes too much money to be a back-up and I imagine the Blues would bring up one of the 4 or 5 other younger goalies they've used the last year or two.
Tawren Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Lalime is good. He had a bad playoffs but that doesn't mean he is a bad player. They could have got a lot more than a conditional 4th rounder.
Lightning Flik Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 His trade value wasn't exactly sky-high after his performance in game 7 against the Leafs. Still could've gotten better than a fourth round draft pick. Lalime is at least worth a second round pick. And it's the 2005 draft which is supposed to be absolutely filled with upcoming talent.
The Czech Republic Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I don't want Hasek in Ottawa. He's just gonna quit 20 games into the season and feign a knee injury mid-game. Emery and Prusek are supposed to be good, right? Sens should've gotten more than a 4th round pick for Lalime, at any rate. As for Osgood, I'm sure he'll fill a hole somewhere. In fact he could remain the primary goaltender with Lalime as backup.
Slingshot Suplex Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Detroit might be able to afford two highly paid goalies.. I don't think St Louis can. All I read down here was how the Blues were talking about cutting payroll after the season. Maybe SL will trade one of them to Ottawa after Hasek gets hurt
tbondrage99 Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Wow St. Louis got Lalime for only a 4th round pick? I wonder what Lalime thinks his value was when he heard that. As for Osgood if Lalime was aquired just by a 4th round pick then Im betting he'll probally end up still being the top goalie while Lalime becomes the back up.
Slingshot Suplex Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I just don't see the Blues keeping both. Without looking it up, I would assume that they both make $3-4 million at least. And right after their season ended, all I kept hearing/reading about in the St Louis media was them cutting payroll. I would expect one of them to go somewhere else and then bring up Sanford or Davis to be the backup.
Guest acnx Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Though I can't find it now, I remember reading a story in which someone from the Blues said Osgood would not be back with the team next year.
starvenger Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Don't know why they'd keep Osgood. Something to think about, but Osgood has won the Cup. Lalime, well... where's that beachball picture?
The Czech Republic Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I thought Mike Vernon did most of the goaltending for the Wings in 97 and 98, not Osgood.
Guest acnx Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I thought Mike Vernon did most of the goaltending for the Wings in 97 and 98, not Osgood. Nope, Vernon went to San Jose in 98.
The Czech Republic Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Man, who didn't go to San Jose...
the max Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Don't know why they'd keep Osgood. Something to think about, but Osgood has won the Cup. Lalime, well... where's that beachball picture? True, but that had a lot to do with the team that was in front of him, as far as Osgood goes.

Osgood had only slightly more to do with the Red Wings winning the Cup than did the equipment manager.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I can't see Blues fans getting too excited about this deal. Lalime doesn't have a bright future to really invest it. Dealing him for a pick in 2005(a draft which might not occur) sounds like the Sens were desperate to get rid of the guy. That doesn't surprise me as the NHL goalie market is REALLY oversaturated and getting rid of damaged(?) goods in Lalime was smart.
the max Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I think they were desperate to get rid of him, based on the fact that they had possibly the best Senators team ever last year in the playoffs, but because of his shoddy goaltending, they were eliminated in the first round. Lalime isn't damaged goods, per se, he's just high maintainance. If he's not absolutely unbeatable, his confidence goes to shit. I would have liked Muckler to get more for Lalime, specifically a more offensive fourth line talent. Varada and Neil are good, but I would have liked to see Peter Sejna come over in the deal too. The Blues are set for goaltender now though. Lalime has been in the league for a while now, he just needs a new setting.
packwingfn Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I wonder what team Osgood goes too now....who needs a starting goaltender?
treble Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Well, if Ed Belfour sticks by this 3-year contract demand and the Leafs don't cave, then Toronto will.
