He probably makes too much money to be a back-up and I imagine the Blues would bring up one of the 4 or 5 other younger goalies they've used the last year or two. Still could've gotten better than a fourth round draft pick. Lalime is at least worth a second round pick. And it's the 2005 draft which is supposed to be absolutely filled with upcoming talent. Emery and Prusek are supposed to be good, right? Sens should've gotten more than a 4th round pick for Lalime, at any rate. As for Osgood, I'm sure he'll fill a hole somewhere. All I read down here was how the Blues were talking about cutting payroll after the season. As for Osgood if Lalime was aquired just by a 4th round pick then Im betting he'll probally end up still being the top goalie while Lalime becomes the back up. Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I just don't see the Blues keeping both. Without looking it up, I would assume that they both make $3-4 million at least. And right after their season ended, all I kept hearing/reading about in the St Louis media was them cutting payroll. Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted June 29, 2004 I can't see Blues fans getting too excited about this deal. Lalime doesn't have a bright future to really invest it. Dealing him for a pick in 2005(a draft which might not occur) sounds like the Sens were desperate to get rid of the guy. That doesn't surprise me as the NHL goalie market is REALLY oversaturated and getting rid of damaged(?) goods in Lalime was smart. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
the max 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 I think they were desperate to get rid of him, based on the fact that they had possibly the best Senators team ever last year in the playoffs, but because of his shoddy goaltending, they were eliminated in the first round. Lalime isn't damaged goods, per se, he's just high maintainance. If he's not absolutely unbeatable, his confidence goes to shit. I would have liked Muckler to get more for Lalime, specifically a more offensive fourth line talent. Varada and Neil are good, but I would have liked to see Peter Sejna come over in the deal too. The Blues are set for goaltender now though. Lalime has been in the league for a while now, he just needs a new setting. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
