The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 We developed a term at school known as "the Whoopi Factor," meaning pretty much anything and everything Whoopi Goldberg is in goes down the shitter simply because of its association with her. For that reason alone, I think Whoopi has to get my vote here.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 6, 2004 The problem with Williams to me is he just acts incredibly stupid though. I found one of his recent stand-ups on tape I stashed away and watched for a half hour without laughing once before turning it off to see what I taped after it. Chris Rock acts extremly racist, and Carlin is hit or miss, although is angry old man style is really whats funny.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Carlin's tree hugging drug addict was better than angry old man to me.

I caught "Live on Broadway" and thought that while it was funny his maniac never stop talking hyper bit started to wear thing. He just threw so many jokes out there that a bunch were bound to miss- and that's what happened. It would've been better had Williams toned it down a bit. Sometimes during an interview when he begins a running gag it either dies badly (like how on Inside the Actors Studio when he kept making fun of James Lipton's pin) or it's hilarious (like how he just kept making masturbation jokes on the same show) I like Ellen too. She's not great and her bit is pretty much Jerry Seinfeld from a female perspective but I find it to be pretty funny. She's a great talk show host though. I suppose you could argue that case with Star Trek: TNG, but frankly Whoopi was just kinda there, and really neither helped nor hindered the show. Wesley was infinitely more annoying. Colin Quinn isn't funny most of the time, although I have to admit that on SNL he had his moments. Frankly, outside of Jon Stewart, no late night talk show (or fake news show) host is really funny. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Michael Ian Black: Horrible stuff he says on I Love The 80s. He just stares and says something really really stupid that he probably thinks is out-of-this-world hilarious, and he is just a moron. Ant: Tries to use over-gayness to be funny. Doesn't work. Grahm Norton: See above. Dat Phan: Hey! I'm Asian! I had strict parents but now I'm a whacky comic! Awful. Bernie Mac: I only liked him in Bad Santa. I pretty much only dislike him because I can never understand what he's saying.
strummer 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Thought of a few more. Rita Rudner, Jake Johanssen (sp?), Margaret Cho, Julia Sweeney, Greg Giraldo, Robert Schimmel George Lopez is a one trick pony, similar to Dat Phan, all he talks about is that he is Mexican. Wow, how original. His show is terrible. The actress that plays his mother on the show is one the most annoying people on TV today. Brett Butler, Drew Carey (I kind of liked his early stuff when he first hit the scene, like the Bernie Kosar routine he used to do was hilarious, but now his whole act is that he is a "chubby famous guy who gets laid because he's on TV"), A. Whitney Brown, Bob Nelson (the guy that just did really goofy impressions and never really spoke) Another one, and I know a lot will disagree, is Dave Attell. I really don't see what is so great about him And I just saw the show tonight, and have watched pretty much every episode this season, but can anyone tell me what is so great about Reno 911? I mean a parody of Cops? Seems a little dated to me, but whatever.

He just stares and says something really really stupid that he probably thinks is out-of-this-world hilarious, and he is just a moron. Aren't all the people on those "praise/slam this" VH1 shows like that anyways? Ant: Tries to use over-gayness to be funny. Doesn't work. If we're gonna put Ant on here, I'd like to add Todd Glass too. Bernie Mac: I only liked him in Bad Santa. I pretty much only dislike him because I can never understand what he's saying. Yeah, it took a couple of viewings of "The Original Kings of Comedy" to understand everything he was saying, but it was Goddamn funny...

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Least favorites: Ben Stiller ... hasn't been funny in 10 years, plays the same character in every movie and never makes me laugh. How this guy is treated like a comedic god is beyond me. Jim Carey ... just doesn't make me laugh. I literally can't sit through one of his movies, I watch about 15 minutes and then just can't stand anymore. Ray Ramano/George Lopez/etc. etc. ... any stand-up that gets their own show now. It just seems that the networks are hoping for another Roseanne/Seinfeld type of break-out comedy hit, and thus each series just runs together to the point that I don't watch any of them. And, strummer, I have to disagree with you on Reno911 ... the show cracks me up virtually every episode. Yes, some of the jokes bomb, and they've already deviated from the straight-up parody of COPS routine (by showing more 'behind the scenes' moments rather than just all-COPS all-the-time). But it just, for whatever reason, makes me laugh my ass off.
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 A lot of the ones that came to my mind were already said (especially Michael Ian Black). There is one person that I did not see listed however that I cannot stand. Margaret Cho. I find very few female comedians funny (just because most of the time the material they use is weak), but Margaret Cho just bothers me in ways I can't understand. LoRisk 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I can't stand Robin Williams. Does Richard Genney count? I might've butchered his last name...he was Jim Carrey's friend in "The Mask". And it's good to see that I'm not alone in thinking Paul Reiser is horrible. I've been referring to him as "the shockingly unfunny Paul Reiser" for years. Guest Evolution Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Jerry Seinfeld. In fact, all of the Seinfeld leading four actors. Anyone who's seen the Seinfeld reference on Family Guy will know how I feel when that show comes on. Honorable Mention: Michael Ian Black. Don't know if you'd go so far as to say "mainstream," but he's in that Stella group that got a Comedy Central Presents special, so that's close enough for me. Anyway, he's good in small doses, but when I watch one of those I Love the XXs marathons, his soft-spoken sarcasm grates on my nerves. The guy from Grounded For Life is consistently funnier. Hal Sparks, too.

Frankly, outside of Jon Stewart, no late night talk show (or fake news show) host is really funny. Craig Kilborn brought the funny as the orginal host of The Daily Show. I think Colin Quinn is the dumbest and worst of the current events topic show hosts as he rarely has a clue on how to comment on the topics. Tough Crowd's appeal is the responses from the other comedians on the show as they react to Collin's idiotic comments.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 7, 2004 John Henson added to the list....if he even counts. He had a horrible show on Spike TV that lasted about 4 weeks, and had maybe one funny segment in all the shows combined.
Positively Kanyon 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Avid Merrion Bo Selecta hasn't come to Austrlalia yet, as far as I know. Thanks to the magic of BitTorrent, I had the opportunity to see Season 1 and 2 and I thought it was an absolute crack up! You are right though, It will get tiresome... The same thing happened with Ali G. It was funny at first but then it just got really stupid. Borat is still pretty funny though!
