10/3 and 10/19 Raw PPVs

Recommended Posts

Guest wildpegasus

So the WWE's experiementing and are going to have a No Mercy Raw PPV on 10/3 followed up by a Raw PPV on 10/19 which falls not on a Sunday but a Tuesday which would be right after a Raw show. Clearly they're going to have to do something big to get people to order on the 10/19th show. What does everyone here think it'll be?

They'll give Eugene his first ever World Title run.

Seriously, they might have a super-gimmick match for the World Title, like a 6-way cage match, or a World Title tournament.

Wait....

the double Raw PPV is only 16 days apart? It's not even a month like Smackdown was?

Good god, how do you build to a show in only 16 days?

I'm expecting them to make a Gimmick PPV.

If it's Halloweeen Havoc, like some rumors reported the PPV's name would be; It's the apt chance to revive the very "popular" SPIN THE WHEEL gimmick.

However, It could easily be a way for them to take the title off Triple H(whom is all but assured to take title either at 'Slam or Mercy) and keep him from Jobbing it back by having one of those nifty one night 14 man tournament deals. It's been awhile since WWE has had a one night tournament of significance anyways.

Or they can simply have it be No Mercy II with added gimmick matches.

I'd say so. There is no way they would run another show the same night of a ppv. SmackDown! should be live every week, as far as I'm concerned.

Obviously Smackdown will be live, unless they tape it on a Monday.

The good thing, hype wise it's a good idea because Smackdown simply should just hype "The other brand may have a PPV this tuesday but SMACKDOWN will present a star studded LIVE smackdown like no other"

Sure, it'll be the same identical show taped or not but the hype should at least attract some attention.

According to the upcoming events section of PWinsider.com, No Mercy is set to be a Smackdown PPV, while Halloween Havoc will be Raw. I also remember that Meltzer and other newsletters saying that both PPV's would be Raw. Which is it?

If this is Vince's second attempt at weekly PPV's, then I expect this to go down as well as Tuesday in Texas did.

Weekly? I haven't heard any info on Vince trying the weekly PPV thing again. This is just a way to experiment if people will buy a Raw and SD! PPV in the same month. The Great American Bash did better than expected which would be good news for them going into October. The big difference is that it's on a Tuesday and it may or may not draw.

In the past most WWF PPVs used to almost never be run on Sundays, but with today's fans it might not work.

I don't think the current breed of Fans will be able to adjust to a weekday PPV.

It was quite common back in the late 80's/early 90's to occur on a wednesday or another weekday because they were so spread out that it didn't matter.

Today, the fans are too used to the Sundays standard for PPV. Weekdays are TV time for the common fans these days...which is interesting because it's a complete flip these days. Now it's PPV on Weekends/ TV Show on weekdays....then it was PPV on weekdays and TV Show on Weekends.

The reason This Tuesday in Texas was a failure, was not because of it's being on a Tuesday but because it was literally six days after another Major ppv and had very little hype concerning the card itself.

At least with the NoMercy/Havoc set up...there's two Raw shows to promote the PPV and if you get a good gimmick draw or a really appealing show, they should be able to have some success with it.

War Games.

Ever since Benoit claimed the world title I believe it has been the biggest "I want this" for the Internet fans.

WarGames is too rational. Maybe another 6-way HITC or something.

Since there's talk of Halloween Havoc being brought back, any idea if Starrcade will return? J/W

The ideal PPV schedule for the smarks (IMO) would be the following:

January--Royal Rumble (Joint brand)

February--have two ppv's: NWO and Ground Zero/Fully Loaded,etc.

March-- Wrestlemania

April-- Backlash (Raw)

May-- JD (Smackdown)

June--Have the Great American Bash as a replacement for KOTR.( joint brand).

July-- Two ppv's: Bad Blood and Vengeance.

August-- SS (joint brand).

September-- Unforgiven (RAW)

October--No Mercy or HH (Smackdown).

November-- Sur SER (Joint brand).

December--Have Starcade as a joint brand PPV. They could use this event to hype up the Rumble.

What do you guys think?

Maybe Vince may cut down on the house shows and try to make back the money with monthly ppv shows from each brand next year If I had to set things up it would look like this....

January-SuperBrawl(raw or smackdown) to play off the superbowl hype

February-The Royal Rumble(this creates the heat for Mania better)

March-WrestleMania

April-Uncensored and have a real ecw hardcore type ppv(r/s)

May-Vengence

June-Unforgiven

July-Great American Bash

August-SummerSlam

September-Fall Brawl

October-Halloween Havoc

November-Survivor Series

December-Starrcade

I hate the generic names such as Vengence and Unforgiven

I think stuff like SuperBrawl at least have a chance for the monthly theme match

I seriously doubt they'd bring back Starrcade. Starrcade was the yearly "Big Blow-off" PPV for WCW. You really can't have two PPV's of that caliber in the same fed. One of the PPV's would be cheapened by doing that.

But...I wouldn't put it past Vince to do it so he could burn it, trash it, and piss on it's memory.

Having SD live doesn't do any good for the company. History shows that ratings don't go up just because it is live.

Plus, having SD live everyweek would cost Vince more money. It cost more money to have a show live than to tape it.

The good thing, hype wise it's a good idea because Smackdown simply should just hype "The other brand may have a PPV this tuesday but SMACKDOWN will present a star studded LIVE smackdown like no other"

How would that attract more viewers?

The two Raw PPVs are Havoc and the Tuesday PPV. While No Mercy is SD's PPV.

If this is Vince's second attempt at weekly PPV's, then I expect this to go down as well as Tuesday in Texas did.

I think what he meant by weekly is that this is only the second time the WWE has ran a PPV on a Tuesday.

I don't think the current breed of Fans will be able to adjust to a weekday PPV.

TNA has a weekday PPV everyweek on Wednesday.

Bebnoit, Eugene, Regal, and Edge vs Batista, Triple H, Flair, and Orton in a Chamber of Horrors Electric Chair match

What exactly is this?

Ever since Benoit claimed the world title I believe it has been the biggest "I want this" for the Internet fans.

Really? This is news to me.

The ideal PPV schedule for the smarks (IMO) would be the following:

November-- Sur SER (Joint brand).

December--Have Starcade as a joint brand PPV. They could use this event to hype up the Rumble.

A few things here:

1) They would never use Ground Zero as a PPV name. Now think why...

2) Two PPVs in February? That would never work. Think about it. Having 2 PPVs in the month of Feb, which is in between January(RR) and March(WM) would be crazy. I don't think most people would buy 4 PPVs in the span of time.

3) KOTR hasn't been around in two years.

4) Too many PPVs in one year. 16 is too many.

5) Too many joint PPVs in one year.

6) Starcade as a joint PPV isn't the best idea. December is the worst month for PPV buy rates. And, why would you need it to hype the Rumble? That is what Raw and SD are for, to hype the PPVs.

7) This is definitely your opinion because I don't see this the ideal PPV schedule for "the smarks." And isn't it smart marks, Scott Keith?

I don't care how big they make the show on the 19th... paying $70 for 2 PPV's in 2 weeks is ridiculous.

I would hope the recent PPV buyrates would change Vince's mind on this.

One simple phrase:

This Tuesday In Texas Part II

Or do Halloween Havoc and gimmick everything.

I was thinking about and I figured out how they could guarantee a good buyrate for the Tuesday PPV, without making the Smackdown PPV look bad by giving the card good hype ahead of time, while also helping build up to Orton/HHH at WM XX.

Here's what I was thinking. First, we assume that Orton beats Benoit for the title at Summerslam. Then, have Bischoff start to turn tweener on Eugene a little bit after he finally realizes that he won't leave. He stops playing the typical heel GM, and starts going back to trying to make Raw an entertaining show. In this vein, he says that the title picture has gotten too muddied, and at Unforgiven, in addition to a Orton/Benoit rematch, they'll have an Elimination Chamber match which will determine the #1-6 contenders for the World Title based on the order of elimination.

At the Tuesday PPV, the #1 contender will face the champ, while the #2 contender will face the #3 contender to see who gets the title shot at the next PPV. The elimination chamber will feature Triple H, Chris Jericho, Edge, Kane, Shawn Michaels, and Eugene. HHH starts out the EC match with Edge, but manages to survive all the way to the end by laying low. Eugene is the last man to leave his cell, and due to his freshness, he manages to pick up the duke on HHH. Meanwhile, Orton retains against Benoit, and it appears that they're building towards an Orton/Eugene main event at the next PPV.

However, two Raws before the PPV takes place, Evolution gives Eugene a vicious beatdown, rendering him unable to compete at Taboo Tuesday. To kick off the last Raw before Taboo Tuesday, HHH and Orton cut a promo about how since Eugene can't compete it will be an all-Evolution main event at the PPV, as HHH is the #2 contender. Just when they start getting in each other's faces and jostling for position, Bischoff comes out and says that HHH isn't getting the shot. He is already signed to face Jericho (the #3 contender from the EC), and since Eugene can't compete, Bischoff has seen fit to name a new #1 contender, in a man that never got a rematch when he lost the title. When HHH points out that Orton already gave Benoit a rematch, Eric says he's not talking about Benoit, he's talking about the Rock!

Then Rock comes out, and gives a big speech about how he's just there to avenge Eugene, and he's going to take the belt away from Evolution. The Orton/Rock main event would practically sell the PPV on it's own, especially if they had a good verbal sparring session afterward. Also, Rock could transition the belt from Orton to HHH, so that Orton could flip out about not getting his rematch and break the group up, or just slowly burn about it while trying to put up a good front. They would also have good decoy Rumble winners in Benoit working his way up from #6 contender, and Eugene who lost his title shot.

Finally, the Orton/HHH main event at Mania would be a lot more compelling if Orton was trying to get his long-denied rematch against HHH then if it was just a heel HHH trying to end his former buddy's seven month title run. This idea just kind of formulated itself in my head, when i was thinking about how they were gonna build the Orton/HHH match at Mania, and I remembered that there was a thread asking what kind of angle they could do to sell the Taboo Tuesday PPV, so I figured I'd find the thread and post it here.
