If it does happen, it won't be for a few months at least. Tysons knee has to heal up, and he has to get back in fighting shape. This fight was nothing more than a fluke, but at least Williams want to have a second go at it. Of course, from the other POV, he's just trying to look like he's the shit by challenging someone who can barely walk without crutches.

Has Buster Douglas even fought a fight in the last 10 years? Seems like he just vanished from the news once he dropped the belt to...someone. I want to say Evander Holyfield, but my history on Boxing championships is really bad without some list in my hands to read from.

For what it's worth, 17,273 people were in Freedom Hall for the fight. The Courier-Journal says 15,554 of that was paid.

Douglas' weight ballooned, and he slipped into a diabetic coma in the years following the Holyfield fight. He recovered, and made a brief comeback into boxing. His most notable fight was against Louis Monaco on Tuesday Night Fights, when Monaco knocked him the fuck out, only to be DQ'ed for hitting after the bell. Lou Savarese KO'd Douglas in the first round, and he fought twice more before retiring.

Tyson hasn't done anything in the last 10-12 years to deserve having people pay for him on PPV. Sure, people will flock for the controversy, but honestly Tyson doesn't deserve the people's money.

 

Tyson in his prime beat a small group of over-the-hill good fighters, like Spinks, Ruddock, and Burbank. Besides that, what does he have in terms of "greatest boxer ever" arguments? When Tyson got his chance in the mid 90's to go out and prove himself, he lost to Holyfield, and Lost to Lewis.

Buster Douglas fight, Tyson didnt even take that fight seriously, he signed with Don King and viewed boxing a new way. He basically lost the desire he had when he was with Cus D'Amato and Kevin Rooney. Buster's mother died weeks before the fight, so he fought the fight of his life. That's the real story of Mike Tyson/Buster Douglas. Had Tyson taken the fight seriously, he would of won easily. But he came into the fight out of shape and thought Buster was just a chump

 

You're still missing some pieces here. D'Amato had died, and Tyson had absolutely no one to look to, personally, so he was just living his own hype, and doing what a thug would do with millions of dollars. Douglas simply fought as a man with nothing to lose, and he happened to do it the same night he fought the fight of his life, against a strategically weakened Tyson. Buster took a hell of a beating that fight, too. Not many people remember that. Tyson was plain beaten at the end of that fight though, pawing around for his mouthpiece.

My only real thought right now on the G.O.A.T arguement is that if Cus was still with him today, he'd be a undisputed champion reigning over the division with a record of like 65-2. He had the pixie dust that kept Tyson on the ground, and if he stayed that way he'd be the ultra destroyer of his early career along with having the veteran knowlege of the game.

Michael Spinks is the most underrated boxer of all-time.

 

He was a great lightheavyweight, possibly the greatest lightheavyweight of all-time. Even better then Roy Jones Jr in my opinion. One of the smartest boxers to ever put on gloves, and had pretty good power. He beat everyone there was to beat in the lightheavyweight divison and then he moved up to heavyweight.

 

He was given a shot at the world champion Larry Holmes, and vurtally no one gave him a chance. Everyone thought Larry Holmes was going to easily beat him, and break Rocky Marciano's record with the victory. But Michael Spinks shocked the world and beat Holmes in a very close bout. He was the first fighter to ever beat Holmes. And he was the 1st fighter to hold the World Lightheavyweight and World heavyweight belts at the same time. And unlike Roy he didn't beat no chump to do it. He beat the best heavyweight in the world at the time, and held the REAL heavyweight belt. He went on to knock out Gerry Cooney also, who everyone thought would slaughter Spinks(Because Cooney was a much bigger fighter).

 

Then came Spinks/Tyson, the 2 best heavyweights in the world. The majority thought Tyson would win, but there were alot of people who thought Spinks would beat Tyson.

 

Tyson just wrecked him. 1st Round in a miniute and half. I never seen a big time fight end that early. Tyson didnt even give Spinks a chance. This was Tyson biggest victory ever, and he beat an all-time great in his prime to do it. Spinks never returned to the ring after that lost.

I didn't want to start a new thread for a minor announcement, but the Mike Tyson/Danny Williams fight will air on Showtime this saturday night at 9 p.m.

Spinks was not over the hill, he was undefeated and had just beaten the great Larry Holmes twice...the only spot against him vs. Tyson was his inactivity.

 

The Ruddock fights were after Tyson got beat by Buster Douglas. And Ruddock has been historically underrated.

 

Berbick, I think thats what you meant, was world heavyweight champion and got totally destroyed in a matter of minutes. Thats a big accomplishment for a young Tyson.

 

Also, remember that Tyson was an accomplished amateur boxer.
