Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Here's an idea that popped into my head after reading a couple posts by my heteroboardmates Incandenza and Moist Party Gurl. They offered to burn and send me cds, which I'd then certainly return the favor with burned copies of whateverthefuck. Now, in an incredibly altruistic and community-building maneuver, I propose that all the people in this folder who either want to hear new stuff, hear more stuff, hear good stuff, or all three put their collections where their mouths is, buy some blanks, and trade shit with someone else on the board. We showcase our tastes in here just about every day, so most of us have an idea of what another person might have. This would of course all reside in the ability of people to act with some RESPONISIBILITY when given someone else's address and such. There's always the omnipresent "This is the internet and I don't even know this guy" worry, and nothing's making that go away, SO, those that are comfortable doing so, use this thread to post small handfuls of wants and haves in responses to wants. Use the PM system graciously and copiously, and play nice. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who thinks this might be a good idea. PS: Probably don't post your address/personal info in this thread. Save all that for PM/etc.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 New cds for the price of postage, people...
snuffbox Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Its a good idea... Ill post what I have sometime(or at least a portion). I wont be able to trade until the end of August/Early Sept though as I will be travelling the next few weeks. Most people involved will probably be established posters so the trading idea could be pulled off. We kinda sorta know each other here so its not like we'd just be sending away cds...and they would only be copies anyway so its not a big loss.
Henry Spencer Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I'll play, but I won't be able to buy any new blank CDs until my next paycheck in a few weeks.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 This isn't the lame excuse thread. I'm not saying there's a timeframe on this, either. ALSO, DON'T POST YOUR ENTIRE COLLECTIONS HERE. That would make this thread gigantified and unreadable. For instance, I want all the Mike Patton I can get my hands on.. I've got The self-titled Bungle and California, The Dillinger EP (pun not intended), Mit Gas, and the first Tomahawk and Fantomas. What am I missing other than FNM? Who's got the hookup here? I'm an semi-authority on Zappa, some musty old prog, Slayer, and everyone else I go on about.
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 This sounds eerily familiar... I'm not sure if I'd have anything that most people would want (except for a ton of Pearl Jam), but I could be down for this.
snuffbox Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I have 'This Is It', FNM's greatest hits collection... Agreed on the 'dont post entire collections' idea... I know mine is far too large... Perhaps beyond requests we should post certain recommendations or rare cds we own?
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I can help with some info on Mike patton projects. http://www.etl.hu/~csego/patton/ Also, I'm willing to spread the metal word to anyone who'll listen.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Oh shit. Mike Patton and Merzbow? Mental note: get Maldoror
Giuseppe Zangara Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 People who claim to like Merzbow are only kidding themselves.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 SHHHHHHhhkkkkkrrrrrrrzzzzzzzttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeetttt ttssssssssssttttttttttssssssszzzzzzzzzzzz
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 When some people go to do other stuff, they'll put on something as a background, and nothing else. My background is stuff like Merzbow, Fripp/Eno's early stuff, Third Ear Band, Pigface..
BX Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I have almost every Zeppelin album, post-Zeppelin, and even some of those shitty String tributes. Also Kyuss/Desert Sessions/Queens of the Stone Age. I have a lot fucking more, but thats what I can think of for now. I'm interested in Zappa, good god-damned jazz, and any King Crimson shit you can dig up.
BX Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Here is how this should work. Someone announces that he will send burned CD's of his choice to anyone who will send him two blanks. One of the blanks contains music that the recipiant thinks the sender would enjoy. The other is a blank for the sender to send to the recipiant. I think thats how it works.
Henry Spencer Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 AoO, are you still interested in White Light/White Heat? I found some CD-Rs, and I'll send you that in exchange for any Zappa album you think would be a good introduction to him.
Guest mesepher Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 could be interesting . . . I'm seriously thinking about it
Giuseppe Zangara Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 No one wants your jam band shit, mesepher. Go away.
Guest mesepher Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 No one wants your jam band shit, mesepher. Go away. I'm also a prog snob, mind you. and jazz guitar
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 If people wanted new stuff, why don't they just download it themselves?
snuffbox Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 If people wanted new stuff, why don't they just download it themselves? No technology.
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 So, here's a quick breakdown of what I've got: My CD's Nothing earth shattering, I know.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Not bandwise, but 40 Pearl Jam live albums is pretty, uh, unique. I can't even comprehend that.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 This seems like a good idea. This is what I've got, people. I'm open to suggestions. K.
Art Sandusky Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 If people wanted new stuff, why don't they just download it themselves? Because my Mixaroonies are SPOONY PC EXCLUSIVES~ Tell me what bands/songs you want mixed continuously and I'll do it for you. Or, if you like, you can choose from the 30+ Mixaroonies I already have. PM me or get me on AIM for details. I'm tempted craft a Mixaroonie of my favorite dance tracks just to help AoO see the light. No music too hard to mix!
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Here's about 1/4 of my current collection of cd/mp3
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 AoO, are you still interested in White Light/White Heat? I found some CD-Rs, and I'll send you that in exchange for any Zappa album you think would be a good introduction to him. Indeed I am, and I don't exactly want to pay for it, considering I'm not feeling this VU and Nico business I got.. Well, There's a couple directions I could go with a Zappa intro..The three that come to mind immediately are Hot Rats which is excellent jazz fusion and virtuoso musicianship, or there's Freak Out, which is their debut album that helped define the decade, or Sheik Yerbouti which is funny and catchy and full of showing off. Tempt me with two other albums, and you'll get all three in a hot deal.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Here's how it "works": You strike a deal with someone, and burn the cds. Next, you excange information, and mail them to each other. Vary this however you'd wish, although I don't see why one would..
Spaceman Spiff Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Not bandwise, but 40 Pearl Jam live albums is pretty, uh, unique. I can't even comprehend that. Usually I shoot for any combo of: cover songs, rare songs, great setlists, reportedly great shows, shows I attend. The "official bootlegs" are pretty cheap (~$15) for what you get.
