Toxxic Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 OK, here's the deal. World Champions have not been defending the belt. This sucks. I will be defending the belt. The Toxxic Open Challenge (check the opening promo of SD if you haven't a clue what I'm wittering on about) is LEGIT. Unless I have other plans for the show in question, I will be defending the title against anyone who has had 5 or more SWF matches, and whom I have not defeated in a world title match before. I already know who I want to face on Lockdown, but the moment the Lockdown card goes up it's open season for Smarkdown - THE FIRST PERSON FITTING THE BILL TO PM ME AFTER THE LOCKDOWN CARD GOES UP WILL GET THEIR SHOT ON SMARKDOWN. And this will continue as long as I have the belt, have not defeated you all or am not very, very tired...
Ace309 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 As another guy who's attempted to raise the bar on the World Title defense front, I salute you. Good luck.
Guest Suicide King Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 This is great and all, and I am all for frequent title defenses, but after one or two of these maybe you could concentrate on building a legitimate contender for Genesis? Our biggest PPV of the year?
Guest Evolution Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 As much as it would be great to receive a World Title shot, my writing schedule might not be very open to something like that, and I also don't really want to bother with the World Title right now. Plus, don't you think the title's been passed around enough in the past few months? I'm with King, you should definitely be lining things up for Genesis right now, even though the Open Challenge is a noble idea.
Dace59 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Someone that's good enough will earn an ME place at Genesis. Toxxic's broken the curse, it's enough.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Yeah, this way there's something to do with the belt for awhile. I applaud this decision. K.
King Cucaracha Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Gutsy too, because this could backfire. Then again, it's Toxxic. He rocks.
Toxxic Posted August 17, 2004 Author Report Posted August 17, 2004 Update: I'm changing the rules slightly (because I can). I will be reviewing the PMs that are in my inbox when i first check it after each card goes up, and will be SELECTING an opponent from there based on how much they've been doing with their character. As in showing, promos, etc. So get writing people. Promos are good and give people insight into your character. *raising workrate by offering free title shots*
Angel_Grace_Blue Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Hot shit, I qualify! Even though I suck as of this moment, but that does not matter. Yay!
Hank Kingsley Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Nice job, Toxxic. You're the last champ since some loser named Charlie Matthews to have a successful title defense.
Toxxic Posted August 17, 2004 Author Report Posted August 17, 2004 Hot shit, I qualify! Even though I suck as of this moment, but that does not matter. Yay! Exactly. You may be losing, but you've had enough matches and you've been promoing like crazy. So you'd be in good contention for a shot. And Supes - if I defeat Johnny I think I will equal the amount of successful title defences this year. Scary, huh?
Guest Suicide King Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 On second thought, if someone does manage the impossible and beat Toxxic, we have our Genesis main event right there. Objection withdrawn.

TheBostonStrangler Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 My PM is already in your inbox.
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 Unfortunately, as I remember correctly, this is usually around the time where most of our younger writers (and, in this case, by younger, I pretty much mean anybody under 22) are getting ready to go back to school and/or college, and have less and less time to commit to the fed. I'm fairly sure I read a couple of weeks ago that Dace is leaving after Genesis for college, and Janus has taken an indefinite leave of absense as well. Who knows how many other top writers are going to have to go into retirement and/or take on a reduced schedule after the school year starts. There's a very real threat of there being a major dilution of the upper midcard/main event, and while we've always had people who have been able to step into those voids, it also presents the possibility that people will be elevated into those positions before they're ready for them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, while I like the thought behind what Toxxic wants to do, it'll be tough to compare the title reign favorably against one like Tom's or Edwin's if he's getting most of his defenses against wrestlers who don't necessarily belong in the main event, so to speak. - Dub "or maybe he just wants to pad his stats against the midcard" Cee
Angel_Grace_Blue Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 *recalls when Stubby did something similar* Only I think he might have had a match take place before to see who he'd face. Or something. I don't know. So, WC, what was it like living in that sandwich? I bet it messed with your head. I know it would have messed with mine, and I'm quite insane.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 *recalls when Stubby did something similar* Only I think he might have had a match take place before to see who he'd face. Or something. I don't know. For Stubby's first defense, he did a lottery of sorts in chat, where whoever guessed the right number would get the shot. I know, because I got it. After that, he was booked in a crazy 5-way battle royal, and I think ended up choosing/suggesting the rest of his defenses. He really liked Fallout, if I remember properly. Whoa...Fallout.

Angel_Grace_Blue Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 So you were never aboard a sub? Because I've been lead to believe otherwise. Oh well, what the hell.
The Ill One Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 All I know is I marked the fuck out for a Fallout mention.

I'm a surface sailor, young lady, not a bubblehead; I'm stationed on an aircraft carrier, not a submarine! Fuck that shit... I'm not sharing my rack with another dude... In fact, I'm on the boat right now; I happen to have duty today...

This is possibly true. But my argument would be that it's either me defending on what will probably work as a show-on, show-off basis (as in, every other show -roughly - I'll do something more storyline orientated or something) against anyone who wants a shot, or the world gets endless rematches of me vs one of probably about two 'main event' talents after Genesis until someone else is viewed as ready to move up. My aim is not only to keep myself busy, but also to motivate the fed (which is partially why I tweaked the rules slightly). If people know that they have a good chance of being picked for a shot if they keep an eye on the boards and the card, PM me promptly and are showing and promoing then the level of participation in the fed is likely to pick up, and that can only be a good thing.
