Eclipse Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Wrestling-News.Com (SOURCE) The World Wildlife Fund has apparently changed their name to the World Wide Fund for Nature. All of those court battles for nothing, god. Rumors should start soon about the WWE trying to buy the trademarks to the WWF name soon, as the World Wildlife Fund is now legally known as the WWFFN. We'll keep you up to date on this story right here on IWN. What a DAMN waste of money by the WWE and the WWF in that whole big case about the initials! Well, there is the chance the WWE may change back to the WWF......
Rob E Dangerously Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Happy Days are here again! Get the F in!
geniusMoment Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 If this means the video library is back, then thank god. Now, just buy off Ventura and the rights to that WCW the music album they released in the early 90s and the video library will be better.
dubq Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 As-if, they've already spent a shit load of cash rebranding themselves.. they're not gonna just undo all of that. If anything it'll just mean that they hopefully won't have to blur out every occurance of 'WWF' in their video archive.
Enigma Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 If they could legally do it, they have to go back to the WWF name. WWE is too goddamned awkward, even after two years. They could unedit all of their old library and they could even leave stuff since May 2002 as it is because they could keep the stuff to WWE. I just cannot believe these assholes did this. They made a big stink about initials that they ended up only keeping for two more years. I know what Vince did was wrong (not once adhereing to their 1994 agreement), but these morons cost Vince a lot more money than he cost them with this stupid ass court case. And anyways, what kind of moron would confuse the two anyways?

But Vince McMahon is stubborn, and when questioned about the issue, he still states that he likes the "WWF" name better.
EdwardKnoxII Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 And the thing is I've never heard the World Wildlife Fund go by the WWF initials. They just went by the whole name while the fed has gone by WWF. So, like everyone else, I never saw what the big deal was.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 I also hate the fact that they did this. I am all for Randy Orton killing a panda next week on RAW........
EdwardKnoxII Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 I also hate the fact that they did this. I am all for Randy Orton killing a panda next week on RAW........ Well knowing Vince next week in the middle of the ring Vince will anal rape a panda while yelling out "Take that you bitch for making me change the name."
Lil' Bitch Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 YES! YES! YES! WWF references will hopefully return and no more WWF blur shit!
Guest GreatOne Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 WWF: F you pandas................... I don't know if I wanna go as far as WCW: The Music, brings back memories of The Allman Brothers judging Simply Ravishing versus Man Called Sting
The Robfather Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Actually, I find all this amusing.
Golgo 13 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Can we not jump to conclusions about how we'll magically revert back to pre-2001... Not for nothing, but the World Wildlife Fund was ALREADY known as the World Wide Fund for Nature worldwide, when litigation over the initials was held. The courts didn't exactly care for this fact then. Then, even while working as the World Wide Fund for Nature, they kept using the WWF initials, and were simultaneously going by WWFN/WWFFN and WWF. I honestly don't see this changing, despite the "official" change to WWFFN.
Promoter Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 All Vince has to do is bring back the wwf for one of the brands and use wwe for the other. WWE for smackdown and wwf for raw.
redbaron29 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Just when I was getting use not stuttering when I say wwe they are gonna go back and change it... As-if, they've already spent a shit load of cash rebranding themselves.. they're not gonna just undo all of that. ....WBF ....Brawl for all ....XFL ....WWE Original Movies I ask anybody to site one instance where Vince has practiced "Financial Conservatism"
AndrewTS Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 This is hardly a surprise, since they were using this name abroad at the time of the lawsuit anyway, just not in the States.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Sad thing is.....I wish they would use the WWF name for RAW and the WWE name for SD. But what they should do then..... World Wrestling Federation - This should be where the wrestling is done. Not sports entertainment, pure wrestling. Put the best wrestler's on the show with longer matches and more wrestling as opposed to interviews, vinettes, and diva shit. World Wrestling Entertainment - This is Vince's little Sports Entertainment playground. All the marrage, death, murder, necrophelia, etc. could go on here.

AndrewTS Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 At the very least, I think Vince and company will scoop up the copyright immediately, if they haven't already. If they do anything with it--we shall see.
Kizzo Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Not so fast...WWF for Nature...still owns the rights to the initial...you better think twice..if you think they are just going to sell those initials due to a name changed....they spent to much time in courts.....plus it isn't exactly anything new...they have always used the intials WWFN before....even when they were battleing WWE in the courts...
landy1987 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 can we have a proper source please like a News website or from the Panda peopel themselves? and not a wrestling website I have never heard of? Also, has someone has pointed out the have been known as the World Wide Fund for Nature for years especially in the UK and there logo over here was always the panda and the initals "WWF" and most likely still is
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Who wants to bet that if they return to the WWF name that the panda fuckers will still sue.
Youth N Asia Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 If nothing else you could watch WWE footagte from the late 90s and early 00s without that friggin blur.
Guest Trivia247 Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 they would probably feel the need to make the return because of the 24/7 material all the older WWF matches they probably don't wanna waste the time and money Blurrying the WWF insigna which was everywhere back then especially during the backdrop during interview times, it would be all blurry.
Enigma Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Then the law is stupid. If their primary name is "World Wide Fund for Nature" then the fuckfaces have no right to WWF. That would be like the National Basketball Association claiming rights to "NB".
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 They seem to have it out for Vince and Co. though. They still sue them on a regular basis and I imagine they'd try to keep the copyright to WWF just to be spiteful.

justcoz Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 World Wrestling Entertainment can be the parent company. Smackdown can be referred to as WWF Smackdown and their champion is the World Wrestling Federation champion. Raw can be referred to as WCW Monday Night Raw and their champion is the World Championship Wrestling champion. They can do an angle with Bischoff and Shane teaming up and putting the WCW logo on Raw to spite Vince. This way the champions have a title lineage and an organization attached to their title. For instance, last night when Randy Orton referred to himself as the youngest WWE Heavyweight Champion, this shows that even the talent is confused as to what title they own. Randy is the World Heavyweight Champion. JBL is the WWE Champion. The title that Randy won isn't the same title won at Summerslam by Yokozuna or Brock Lesnar. So if the company themselves are confused, how do you think the casual fan is with something as simple as, "Who's the WWE Champion?"
caboose Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Don't forget the now WWFFN contemplated trying to stop Vince from using WWE almost as soon as it was implemented.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Don't forget the now WWFFN contemplated trying to stop Vince from using WWE almost as soon as it was implemented. Had they tried that, they would have been laughed out of court.
