Boner Kawanger Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 The thought hit me last week when Evolution turned on Orton that, in the grand tradition of Raw, we're going to have a few new tag matches to prolong the feud. Then I thought how that would make no sense. Everyone on Raw should hate Orton now. For the past year and a half (give or take), he's been the biggest prick in the company. Let's take a look at who he could try to make friends with: -Benoit: Orton beat him for the belt. They shook hands. Benoit was screwed out of the title in a rematch. There could actually be some respect there, however. I could see Benoit helping Orton out. -Edge: Beat Orton for the IC title, so he probably thinks he can win the World Title. Couple in his heelness as of late, and it makes an Edge/Orton team look stupid. -Shelton Benjamin: Before he was injured, Benjamin was the victim of several Orton-orchestrated beatdowns. He pinned him clean on Raw, and then Orton had to cheat to retain the IC title. -Chris Jericho: Besides eliminating him from the last battle royale, Jericho really should have nothing against Orton. Plus, he got a beatdown last week, as well. I could see them teaming. What I'm proposing here: what if no one on Raw trusted Randy Orton? Would this make for interesting television? Will it even be brought up?

But, if he does have to make friends, he'll probably align with the Canadian Chris'. That way, they can have either two groups struggling for power, or three (if Edge and Christian do indeed make an alliance).

I mean..why not a heel vs heel feud? Orton could just come out talking about...how he didn't need the crowds sympathy...'fuck them' and all that..he's World champion and that's all that matters. This could of course lead to controversy with faces..who want to take him down..and heels...who we all know are basically evolution, and we know the deal with them.

He had been protected for his entire career, and now he needs protection from three guys who used to be his friends. He'd naturally seek allies. You guys should shut up about "the context of the story" because you don't know what it is.

So yes I do know the context of the story. He'd naturally seek allies if hes a pussy. It will make Orton a stronger character if he does it alone.

Austin was almost always portrayed as a loner face. If they do their booking right, it could work.

The way I understood the SummerSlam main event, Benoit respected Orton for doing things on his own for once. He didn't need Evolution to beat him down on the outside, he didn't need to use the ropes or pull the tights to pin him. He got a clean pin on the World Champion and earned his respect. I think they should strike a good balance on Orton being self-sufficient, but having allies through respect with guys like Benoit and maybe Rock. Guys he can rely on when he's against the odds, but not guys who do his dirty work for him. His character should be a strong semi-lone face, in my opinion.

Orton's run with this crew for a year and a half plus, he knows Evolution inside and out, and each individual member for that matter. They need to play that up BIG TIME. He knows how they plan things, what their tendencies are, everything. Why do you think he ran off after hitting HHH with the belt instead of after spitting him? He knows the other two will back off until HHH is at a clear disadvantage. Seriously, they need to push Orton's knowledge of the group.
