Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted August 30, 2004 I have league that I run with my college buddies. We do a live draft, I call all those who don't live near me, so yesterday it took 4 hours to do ten rounds. Our league has a QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, WR/RB, Def, Kick, and six spots on the bench. As of today my team consists of: Culpepper Owens Barlow Onterio Smith Tampa D. Robinson, K - I got him the last rounds as he was still available, and I had to go with the best available WR Barber - I got him in round 9... no one wanted him, but due to his fumblitis... but once again too good to pass up, especially when the pickings are slim. Longwell Walker - I think he is going to have a break out season... so when he was available, I gladly took him Tatum Bell - I am banking on the Broncos theory that any RB can be successfull in the system. Also, the Broncos have had a string of rookies who have rushed for 1000 yards, so I was banking on the trend continuing. Shanahan does have the knack to pick good RB's in the draft. Bell had the fastest 40 time of all rookies, so he has speed. Garrison Hearst will be used as a pass blocker, as his legs are finally wearing out with age. Griffin I have heard is too small, but he might be the starter. So I think this might work out for me. And if he bails, then I was able to get Tiki for such a low pick. As for the draft itself. Man there were some ugly picks. Duece Staly taken with the first pick of the second round? I mean he is good, but there were still plenty of quality RB's that he could have taken, and still gotten Staly. Many groaned at McNabb being taken over Vick, but McNabb should have a good year if he stays healthy, and can connect with Owens half the time. But the real ugly situation was TE. There are really not that many quality TE, except for Gonzalez and Heap. Shockey has 4 career TDs, so he is no where near the top level the East coast sports media has made him out to be. Winslow was also a good pick, but after that, yuck. Many took a back up QB, instead of a TE. So this year I am hoping for break out years for at least three players. That was the strategy I used this year. I am taking a chance, and hopefully they pan out.
Guest Kageho Report post Posted August 30, 2004 I think that TE's should only be added in way of WR/TE. I mean, after two TEs being used, they are just guys to help the run game.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Keeper League Les Rous de Montreal (Montreal Kangaroos nee Poutine) QB: McNair, Grossman, Rattay WR: Rod Gardner, David Givens, Tyrone Calico, Michael Jenkins, Brandon Stokley RB: Tiki, Brian Westbrook, Marshall Faulk, Warrick Dunn, Josh Scobey TE: Tony Gonzalez, Jerramy Stevens K: Vanderjagt, John Hall D: Green Bay, New Orleans O: Jets Kick Returns: Lions I'm not really liking this team. I did well last year (1st overall regular season) on the strength of McNair and Vanderjagt, but luck only takes you so far, as it pretty much killed my picks this year. This team is, to put it mildly, high on "upside" but low on proven ability. Office League (yahoo) Canadian Destroyers (hey it fits a fantasy team name better than a piledriver...) This is the league I had posted about previously, picking from the 8th slot in a 10 team league. QB: Tom Brady, Carson Palmer WR: Joe Horn, Darrell Jackson, Javon Walker, Justin McCareins, Drew Bennett RB: Clinton Portis, Shaun Alexander, Rudi Johnson, Warrick Dunn, Moe Williams TE: LJ Smith K: Josh Brown, John Carney D: Miami Much happier with this one. Some picks were unusual (there was a run on TEs in the 6th round), and one guy ended up with Harrison/R Moss, but I stuck with my gameplan (didn't grab a D, K or TE until the 10th) and I think I've got a pretty solid core of players. And Warrick Dunn. Also, this is the first draft I've been in that took place over FIVE DAYS. I drafted for 8 rounds, had to put a list together to do the next 6, and came back for the last 2. On top of that, I helped my buddy pick out of the #2 slot. He may have gotten some better picks.

Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Out of all the leagues i'm in i've been stuck drafting around the 8th or 9th position, it figures the one draft i can't make live i wind up with the 1st overall pick. Not too bad for a Yahoo auto-draft that i barely bothered to pre-rank, far better than my usual disasters when leaving the autodraft to pick for me in the past. QB- Marc Bulger WR- Hines Ward WR- Andre Johnson WR- Amani Toomer RB- LaDainian Tomlinson RB- Travis Henry TE- Todd Heap K- Jason Elam DEF- Kansas City Bench- Tiki Barber Bench- Marty Booker Bench- Jerry Rice Bench- Dallas Clark Bench- Joey Harrington Bench- Buffalo

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 1, 2004 eh, fuck a backup defense. I'm not keeping two defenses when you only need the backup for one week. I can sign a passable defense during the Dallas bye week

razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 eh, fuck a backup defense. I'm not keeping two defenses when you only need the backup for one week. I can sign a passable defense during the Dallas bye week Defense is more important than a backup TE or RB who might 400 total yards total this year. When the Cowboys play games outside of their division you should start the other defense. Aug 30 Rob Demovsky, of PackersNews.com, reports Green Bay Packers RB Najeh Davenport (hamstring) has remained out of action since suffering a hamstring injury Aug. 21. He'll attempt to practice early this week. Why keep him now?

razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2004 Lose the extra kicker or tight end, it does not matter which one.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 7, 2004 Between the TE and Kicker, cut whichever has the deeper FA pool. That's usually the kicker. As far as me picking up an extra defense, there's none worth keeping on my roster. If there was a defense worth keeping, I'd probably sign it.
