Guest Quik Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Applebees blows. Yes, I sincerely mean that. I still eat there occasionally, but I think the food blows monkey ass. Now I would like to preface this rant with one major detail: I only eat the appetizers now. I had the fajitas, riblets, and a burger. EACH ITEM BLOWS. After eating the uber-shitty riblets, I swore off everything but the appetizers menu (which still sucks). Why do I still eat there? Half priced apps, motherfucker. Yeah, the food blows. But when you're stoned as hell and need an ample amount of food for a decent price, you get two fucking orders of boneless buffalo wings for the price of one. The food still sucks, but at least there's a lot of it and it was cheap. My biggest gripe is with the potato skins. Perhaps the blandest item I've ever had in my life. They skimp on the fucking bacon and cheese, giving you what is basically a half of a baked potato. A baked potato is one of the blandest food items on earth. No one really likes baked potatos. You may think you do, but in actuality it's just the fact that it's either smothered in butter or filled with sour cream and chives that appeals to you. Anyone who loves melted butter and sour cream and chives knows that society won't let them eat these things straight, so you jump at the oppurtunity to put them on a bland vegetable and eat that. Fuck everything else though. The Quesadailla has bacon in it (THERE'S NO BACON IN A QUESDAILLA GODDAMNIT), the Boneless Buffalo Wings taste like metal, the onion peels taste good for the first 3 minutes (then you get sick of them because they don't understand how to make a seasoned batter), mozzarella sticks simply should NEVER be ordered in a restaurant, and the nachos look like they come in the original fucking moon lander. Combine that with the fact that there 5 billion nachos and a couple scoops of toppings, and you might as well go buy a bag of Tostitos, sprinkle a little cheese in it and microwave it. I like the taste of the fries and the actual food is better than Baker's Square, which went up in price and down in quality. Again. And it's still better than IHOP. If only the place wasn't always so damn loud. I get the feeling they have speakers somewhere playing a looping tape of crowd noise so the place seems packed even when there's nobody there. Still, eating at Applebee's is practically a treat for me, the guy who is always going to the clown or the king for a burger. It's okay, but it isn't as good as the Black Bear Diner. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Out of the big name restaurant chains, I actually go to TGIFriday's the most ... but it's more do to proximity (it's fucking closer than the others) and the fact that there is always talent there to look at. The food is blah, but I tend to bastardize what's on the menu to fit my taste (chicken finger BLT, without the bacon & without the tomato, and replace the mayo with honey mustard). Chili's is Ok, I like their egg roll things but otherwise it's just crappy fake Tex-Mex food. I don't eat at Bennigans/T-Bones/Ruby Tuesday's/etc enough to have an opinion. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 We have a diner called the Silver Skillet, it is open 24/7, and makes some of the best, mindnight cravings food ever. Plus it is pretty damn inexpensive. Also since it is right by a truck stop, there is ALWAYS an interesting crowd of folks, and a gift shop. They have 2 TV's positioned high up, and one is ALWAYS on Fox News and the other is ALWAYS on CNN.....so I guess if you have the right crowd there, the resteraunt can get pretty rowdy. Can't remember much about their food though... Friendly's is shit. The last one I was in was in a mall in Hanover, PA. The wait was terrible and the food was sub par. They did make some tasty desserts though. Mainly ice cream sundaes and such. It's hard to go wrong when ice cream is involved. If you want an interesting restaurant go to Ed Debevic's in Chicago. It's just a really small little diner-type place on a side street in Des Plaines, I think the hours have been drastically reduced as the owners got older. I don't even know if it was any good. And I agree, the Roadhouse is ALWAYS too crowded to deal with ... I haven't even bothered going there because every person I know that has been there bitches about how fucking crowded the place was.
