Chants

Recommended Posts

Obviously, audience participation plays an important role in wrestling. Well, to everybody but the deaf guys. Chants are a way for the crowd to voice their opinion. "Asshole", "where's my pizza?" and "she's a crackwhore" are some of the more classier ones.

So what's your opinion on them? Don't care? Enjoy? Find them disrespectful (depending on the type of chant)?

Personally, I'm pro-"Boring" under the right circumstances. I'll give a match some time before deeming it dull. I also like to join in on the Goodbye Song but ONLY if it's a fan being ejected.

And for some reason, I've ALWAYS wanted to try to get the crowd to join me in a rousing rendition of "New York, New York" or the theme from Fresh Prince.

..I've never actually tried to start it, though. I'm such a pussy.

Should've tried something like that during Brock/Goldberg. Seemed like every chant that started up got built up so everyone was doing it.

"You Are....an Asshole" really didn't get over I don't think.

I had fun chanting Cuellero (sp?) [Asshole] at Bradshaw in El Paso back in May.

And if a chant starts for a face wrestler I don't like (Holly, Goldberg, Eugene), I'll yell "SUCKS!" as loud as possible in between.

I was attempting to start a "You're not Andre" chant at Big Show at Wrestlemania 19 and was planning to do it when he was controlling the match.

He never did.

Thanks a lot, Undertaker.

Sounds like something idiot fans do in redneck promotions.

I tried starting a "London" chant for good old Paul London at a Smackdown house show back in the spring... didn't work.

Later on, I tried starting a Rhyno chant, but everyone in the building (buncha marks) were pissed that Rhyno had snuck up and gored John Cena.

When Stasiak came back after the WCW buyout in 2001 I started a huge "Beat The Meat" chant during a Heat taping.

It was always fun to chant "Irwin" at Mike Rutundo when he went back to WCW.

I got a small "hit the slut" chant going at an ECW house show in Flint, Michigan. Lita back in her no boob having days was trying to run in the Axl Rotten/Roadkill match. Axl grabbed her by the hair and looked to the crowd for an answer...it kinda caught on.

At both Royal Rumble and WrestleMania XX, I tried to start up a "TEAR YOUR QUAD" chant at HHH when he was in the ring and in control.

Didn't go over though.

How tasteful.

A friend of mine yelled out "PANAAAAAAAAMAAAAAAAA!", Van Halen style at the last 3PW event.

I started a "Fuck You Matthews!" chant at Joey Matthews, to which he responded, "C'mon guys, it's a family show." We quickly changed to a "Screw You Matthews!" chant.

At the SmackDown! house show here in Brisbane, Australia on Saturday night, there were a lot of "[insert name here]'s a wanker!" chants.

Heyman cut a nice promo calling all of us Aussies "wankers" and Eddie had a good comedy moment when he mentioned "I like Australia cause it's full of convicts, it reminds me of home!"

"Trik's Gonna Kill You" during the Trik Davis/Cash Flo match at IWA Mid-South's A Butcher's Loose In Highland back in June.

Yeah, I don't think you helped him any, being that he got choppped to hell.

At one of the NWA Great American Bash shows around 1987/88 in Detroit, a small group of us started a chant of "Bruno, Bruno" at Larry Zybysko. I guess it was just loud enough for him to hear cause he looked over at us with this look of disdain on his face.

I enjoy them. When the wrestler/manager gets into it and the best was Bobby Hennan with the chants of "Weasel"

I remember at a ROH show there was a chant that was: 'Don't Die Paul!" or something like that.

Ah, the brilliant "Please don't die"-chant.

I actually liked the one immedeately before better. London and Shane (if memory serves) had spent the better part of their match completely destroying a TLC-sized ladder, to the point where it was wobbly just standing on it's own.

London, crazy man, decides to climb it.

So naturally, the crowd starts a "Stupid fuck!" chant at him. The best part? The commentators agreed.
