Guest MikeSC Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Mr. Rather asserted that the lack of denial was itself evidence of the essential truth of his findings. The questions raised by his reporting, he said, have remained unanswered by the Bush administration: Did Mr. Bush get preferential treatment for the Texas Air National Guard? Was then-Lieutenant Bush suspended for failing to perform up to Texas and Air Guard standards? Did then-Lieutenant Bush refuse a direct order from his military superior to take a required examination? http://www.nyobserver.com/pages/frontpage1.asp So, in Rather's world, if Bush does not respond to questions raised in FORGED MEMOS, it indicates that the FORGED MEMOS are true? Does anybody not find this to be one of the weakest attempts ever to shift the focus? Is this not the most insane leap of logic ever? -=Mike

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted September 16, 2004 She had said something over this and the CBS crew said she didn't offer any evidence that the documents were real. How CBS thinks the burden of proof is on anyone but them is beyond me.

It's really horrible to watch.
Swift Terror 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Rather doesn't operate with that kind of logic in mind. The more important issue to him is the allegations and, in his mind, so what if the documents are forged. He did this before in the 80s. Some of you may have seen the link on Drudge yesterday about this. He hosted a documentary on CBS about Vietnam veterans, featuring harrowing stories of killings and torture, told by men claiming to be veterans. Rather led them through their interviews with breathless concern and with a heavy heart. How awful the war was, how awful our military was for producing such monsters. They were frauds. Danno never checked these men's backgrounds before putting them on the air. They were found to have never served in combat. One jackball claimed to be a 16 yrd old Navy SEAL assassin. He was never in the SEAL teams. Rather wanted the stories to be true, wanted our government and military to come under fire over Vietnam, as he wants this current story to be true. B.G. Burkett, author of "Stolen Valor" exposed these fakes. He simply looked up their military records via the FOIA. See ya, Danno. Bye now.

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted September 16, 2004 I hope this is the end of Rather though. I've never seen a bigger moron doing the news than him. Anyone remember when he kept trying to interview that prank caller from Howard Stern when the Kennedy plane went down and even reported what he was saying for a little while. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Yeah, but at least they got down and dirty and everyone knew it. (I imagine, I'm not a fount of electoral history) Duels, all kinds of hateful meanness, but that would be far better to watch than both these sides talking shit about the other's military history or lack thereof. Fuckin', one of them should call the other Yella. In those words. A candidate needs to show some BALLS here. Some blatant machismo. That's what's going to win this election. It's going to win this election because it'll be really close, and the first one to be a blatant asshole gets my vote. Therefore, my vote will actually count. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Kerry should hit Bush in the back of the head with a chair during the debates, then start yelling about how tough Bush is now or something. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 This is so pathetic. I'd laugh at Rather try to justify his little jihad against the Bush family if it wasn't so sad. Hey, look at this. I got an e-mail from Tyler's better half saying some not-so-nice things about him: By Mrs. Tyler God, Tyler is the Suq. I've seen weiners with toothpicks through them that are bigger, and more filling, than his ding-a-ling. Not only that, but he can't cook worth a shit and he has no taste in clothes. It's real, I tell you -- I got this message when I checked my e-mail at Kinko's...
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 The late 1800s elections involving Grover Cleveland, especially the two against Benjamin Harrison, were pretty ugly. That's why Cleveland is the only president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms. A swing vote of a few hundred people in one city was enough to throw the vote to Cleveland the first time, to Harrison the second, then Cleveland in the third. As for Dan Rather, I'm starting to refer to him as Dan Quixote because he's obviously tilting at windmills at this point. He's about to be removed as anchor of CBS since the CBS Evening News ratings in 9 of the 10 major markets have plummeted since the National Guard story broke. (Not coincidentally, San Francisco is the ONLY major market in which Rather's ratings are not suffering) Either doesn't realize he's about to be fired or or he's trying to spin everything as much as possible in an attempt to keep his job. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Here's something that really irks me about this. If it wasn't for the "new media" (talk radio/Internet/etc.) Rather would have gotten away with this. I can't even imagine how many time Big Media have been able to get away with pulling shit like this in the past, back in the day when there were only three TV networks. What do you think about that, Dan?...
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 This is a fun little red herring. With forged memo(s) [You do have suspicions that more than one memo, right?] I guess as part of the Democrats evil plan to talk about this all the time, John Kerry was sent out to talk about actual issues, and then he got massive media attention, by massive, I mean "not that much" The stuff Bush has done wrong since 2001 is much more important than the stuff from the 1970s

Bush, you come out here night after night, week after week, and run your mouth about how you've done so much to help our country, how you've made us safe from terror. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 I would mark so hard if Bush started talking like The Rock during the debate... "John Kerry, you get up here on this stage in front of the mmmmmillions (and millions) of Americans watching, and you run your mouth about what you'd do in Iraq. Let me ask you something... did you ever serve in a war?" "Why ye -- " "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU EVER SERVED IN A WAR~! John Kerry, The Pres says this: you take your Purple Hearts you got for opening some guy's canteen, you take your freaky Lurch looks, and you take your crazy wife -- she loves the Pres' strudel, in case you didn't know -- back home to Know Your Role Blvd and wait for The Pres to check your monkey ass into the Smackdown Hotel!" I'd retract my stance on not voting for Bush if that happened.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 If he did that and came out at the debate to "The Imperial March" from Star Wars, I'd vote Bush in a heartbeat. I'd retract my stance on not voting for Bush if that happened. He'd have to start running them down at a speech in Las Vegas to have full effect, the Democrat Jabroni Jackpot: 'John Kerry, John Edwards, Al Gore, Howard Dean. You four jabronies can go directly to the Tropicana Hotel, it's right down the road you can't miss it. It's got a big United States flag right in the middle and it's called 'The American People's Slot Machine....... One US flag, two US flags, THREE US FLAGS! And all the sudden you're jumping around like a bunch of idiots, John Edwards screaming like a little girl--HEEHEEHEEHEE, John Kerry and Al Gore (voicebox)-- WE-WON, WE-WON, LET'S-PAR-TEE, and the biggest goof of them all Howard Dean running around scaring all the President's fans--YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I do believe at that time he will truly solidify himself as The People's President.
