TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 I was wondering the other day if TNA was still going to do the World X Cup now that their Wednesday PPV's are done with, and an idea struck me. TNA could actually make the World X Cup a serious tournament idea. (Take note that I don't believe the previous X Cup was as serious as it could have been, and I'll explain why.) Instead of having X Cup matches on Impact, have "qualifying" matches, in which wrestlers compete for spots on the four separate teams. (US, Mexico, Japan, and Europe.) Start with around 8-12 wrestlers competing for the four spots on each team. Have these matches on Impact, and hold a "World X Cup" pay-per-view seperate of the actual major TNA PPV's. The qualifying matches would showcase the individual talents of the teams, and would hopefully be hype enough to sell the PPV to everyone. This idea utilizes the original concept of the X-division, because the people qualifying for Team USA wouldn't be just TNA stars, including guys from NWA affiliates all across the US (as long as they're talented enough). It would also help TNA test the water for developing new talent from the regionals. Also, advertise the Japanese, Mexican and European promotions. If you go with CMLL, sell some CMLL merchandise on a world X Cup mini-site. Do this with all four teams. What do you say? (Except for Mike, who would consider this the "night of the shitty spotfests," which would actually be a good name for a PPV.)
Guest NoMercy Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Hey, its almost been a year now, do you think that the SUPER X CUP will be contested again soon?
slimm44 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 TNA did that because the Tennessee State Fair interfered with the show that week. If they did do it this year, I could see them doing it into Victory Road. But I don't think they will
Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 Sounds like a good idea. They sort of tarnished the whole X-Cup concept when they made it monthly though. If they kept it yearly with about 3months build up of qualifying matches here and there like you said it sounds like a good idea.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 As long as Europe doesn't get saddled with a team as bad as Team UK last time, then it could be good. The only problem is that TNA haven't exactly proven that they'll get the best talents from each region. Team Japan will feature Nosawa AGAIN and if they dared pick Dean Xtreme or Frankie Sloan before Jonny Storm or James Tighe for Europe, it'd be a total joke. cmpunk04 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 TNA have this thing where they always get the worst promotions on deals with them. AAA instead of CMLL giving us Abismo Negro and Heavy Metal AJPW instead of NJPW giving those green guys. All Star UK guys instead of the FWA talent like Storm, Williams and Tighe. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 I think that, if this does come into fruition? TNA would botch it by, again, giving us shitty workers instead of damn good ones. And there was no reason - NONE WHATSO-FUCKING-EVER - TNA couldn't have gone for Marufuji and KENTA for Team Japan. They'd make the Team Japan matches, you know, WATCHABLE and even, dare I say, GOOD. At least there's no hope for Jody Fleisch on Team Europe anymore, considering everybody wanted him on Team UK last time...and he retired a month or two prior. Guest Donners Report post Posted September 17, 2004 I can imagine it's not easy to get people from around the world, associated with various promotions, together on the same night in the US on a one-shot deal. Another Super X Cup would be a much better idea IMO. You wouldn't need a certain number of people for each "team", simply a few top high-flyers to compete individually. It would be a fair bit cheaper, as they could rely more on X-Division regulars, but there would still be plenty of room for a few of the better indi cruisers to make it something special. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 I think the problem with another Super X is that the current X-Division style (as relegated by DUTCH and JARRETT, mind you) would make the matches boring as fuck, just as almost all of them are now. None of the X-Division regulars can work around the limiting style these days, because none of them are that far along in becoming a great worker. So the import of talent would NEED to happen, and it would need to be either veterans or bigger names from foreign lands.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Just some fantasy booking: Team Japan was TAKA Michinoku, SUWA, CIMA, Nosawa Replace SUWA and Nosawa with Marufuji and KENTA, and it's a deal. Team Mexico was LA Park, Shocker, Black Tiger, Dr. Wagner Works for me. Team USA would be the Havana Pitbulls And...who else? Unless the Havana Pitbulls are four people, you're missing two people. Also, I think Team USA should be TNA wrestlers, so I'd say it'd be Lynn, Sabin, Skipper, and Daniels again. Team Canada would be Teddy Hart, Harry Smith, Petey Williams, Bobby Rude Replace Rude with Johnny Devine, and yes!
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 I am not sure but I think I saw 4 wrestlers in CMLL work as the Havana Brothers. Ricky, Rocky, Puma/Pinoy Boy, and somebody else. I would use the X Cup as a tourny to promote new talent outside of TNA so there is no need to have Lynn, Sabin, Skipper, and Daniels again. Unless they work well with the other teams. I would replace Nosawa with HEAT so all of the japanese wrestlers names could be in ALL CAPS.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Hey, where's Team Europe in all of this? Give us Jonny Storm, James Tighe, X-Dream and Birchall and we've got a damned good team.
Guest Heppyhack Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Hey, where's Team Europe in all of this? Give us Jonny Storm, James Tighe, X-Dream and Birchall and we've got a damned good team. Apart from Burchill, it'd be a damn good team. And even allowing for the "style, not weight" rules for X-Division, it'd be a bit OTT having him on Team Europe. Tighe, X-Dream and Storm definitely. Aviv Maayan perhaps as the fourth member. Or Brookside as team captain - he's got the most name value, if nothing else, and could be used without acutally being in the ring too much. DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Does Brookside have that much name value in the US though? He's well-known in the UK, but never really gets mentioned much, apart from getting namechecked by Chris Hero in the occasional interview. That said, I'd love to see him make an appearance or two in TNA (Brookside/Shelley would be awesome). Maayan would be a good choice and Ross Jordan seems to be getting pretty good too. ulfistgut 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2004 Ew, no Mayan or Jordan thankyou very much. They're solid workers and all but they'd probably go down as well as the AllStar guys (IMO Mayan's high flying is overrated and sloppy - he works better when he cuts it out) If Birchill was a no-no then Zebra Kid would work well, that would give you a team of a fair mix of styles that also work similarly too. Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted September 20, 2004 Just some fantasy booking: Team Japan was TAKA Michinoku, SUWA, CIMA, Nosawa Team Mexico was LA Park, Shocker, Black Tiger, Dr. Wagner Team USA would be the Havana Pitbulls Team Canada would be Teddy Hart, Harry Smith, Petey Williams, Bobby Rude I just read this and I thought I would throw my two cents in for some kickass team ideas: -First off I agree with Laz 100% on KENTA(who's one of the top five workers......IN THE WORLD right now) and Marafuji would rock as additions to Team Japan for sure. I do like the mentions of Taka and CIMA for this as well. I personally would add in some others......like it would be great to see a Jushin Lyger there as well, but I know that is just wishful thinking. -Team USA is fairly simple - Lynn, Daniels, Sabin, Skipper.... -Team Mexico could be really amped up though with Shocker, LA Park, and Ultimo Guerrero, and Rey Buccanero...... -Team Canada = Teddy Hart, Jack Evans, Harry Smith, TJ Wilson It's fairly simple if they would just watch some tapes and do reasearch......but since were talking about TNA here I guess we should be thankful they even know where these countries exist.......
