MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting a 76-year-old neighborhood woman in her home as three of his friends stood watch.

Police said that for a week before the attack, the boys had been "terrorizing" the woman in her house, repeatedly breaking in and taking cash and other items.

The woman, who lived alone, told police she was taking a sponge bath in the kitchen Friday when the 11-year-old walked in, demanded money and then ordered her to take off her clothes and go into the bedroom, according to court papers.

The boy's brother, a 13-year-old who was among the three other boys also charged, said he heard the woman say: "I'm just an old, half-crippled lady, I'm not going."

The woman said the 11-year-old put on a condom and tried to rape her, followed by a second boy.

The 11-year-old was charged in juvenile court with sexual assault and being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing. The other boys -- ages 11, 12 and 13 -- were charged with being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing.

In court Wednesday, the 11-year-old facing the less serious charges called out, "Hi, Mom" after spotting his adoptive mother.

"I'm very hurt because my son was raised as a good boy," she said outside court. She complained that police abused the boys to obtain confessions.

WTF?

How many fucking times have we heard that? I kow its cliche to say "I blame the parents", but really who else is to blame?

So when was your first time, Billy??

Oh you know, just the cliche story, boy breaks into pensioner's house, boy steals from pensioner, boy rapes pensioner. Same old...

Horseshit, lady. I don't give a damn what you think at this point. Your son has proven he isn't a "good boy" and as for being abused by the police, you probably don't even know what police abuse really is.

So should CE be strictly limited to political or world events? Somehow I doubt the victim here considers it fluff.

Oh, this kid needs to be someone's prison bitch.

a) try these kids as adults and let them enjoy being someone's rape victim for a while.

b) charge the parents with negligence, and send them either to jail or fine them a hefty amount.

c) I don't see how this is more 'fluff' than a lot of the liberal or conservative bashing that goes on in this thread. Just because something is political doesn't mean it's not fluff.

I don't live in Milwaukee, but I do live in Wisconsin, and unfortunately it seems like weird crimes like this are becoming more common in Milwaukee. Recently there has been a rash of youth crimes in Milwaukee, from mass groups attacking people to crap like this. Of course the story doesn't say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the perps were black...hate to say it, but it's been black youths who have been behind most of the crimes lately. Hopefully their community will start taking more responsibility to stop this kind of garbage.

I just realized this was three boys

11, 12 and 13.

Dammit, THIS is what happens when you don't allow young boys to pop their rocks off with a magazine!

I bet this will all be blamed on either a) heavy metal or b) cable television.

I won't be shocked if they blame "THE SHIELD".

I may be voicing the unpopular opinion here, but:

Juvie. And counseling. Lots of counseling. YEARS of freakin' counseling. They're still kids and there's still a shot that they can be turned around.

But that's my take.

The 11 yr old....maybe

12 yr old....possible

13 yr old....wow, I don't know. Not to mention they just ruined the life of someone. That is what I dislike people forgetting with the "they are just kids" thing. Forgetting that these "kids" ruined the life of someone possibly till the day they die.

I doubt it fills anyone with joy knowing that someone who raped their grandmother might go on to a productive happy life after destroying another.

I haven't forgotten anything. She'll need counseling as well. Tragedy is rarely one-sided. There's a reason that people do things. Especially children. It needs to be addressed. Those kids probably aren't going to die anytime soon. They are NOT adults. Desperately trying to imitate adults, perhaps, but that does not an adult make. Our society has seemingly forgotten that. If they're going to live, they need a shot at living right. And the old woman in question needs to have what happened addressed in her life as well. I'd be interested to hear her thoughts on how the boys should be punished.

That brings up a fascinating question: should a criminal suffer forever for their crimes? Should a murderer be executed or sentenced to life in prison, because he permanently destroyed the life of a human being? Or should they get the chance to live a productive and happy life, on the basis that they might do some good in the future and attempt to make up for their actions?

You forfeit your right to happiness if you kill someone with no just cause. Whether it's in a cell or in a chair, they should lose the right forever.

There are just causes, many in fact that can mean that they should get one last chance. But just killing to kill or killing more than one should mean you never get a second chance. Ever. You prove you have no good in you by doing that.

I think drunk drivers who kill families should go to prison for life, and by life I don't mean 50 years. I mean, till the day they die.

There is just evil in these kids and they know they are going to get off. We have made it quite clear to anyone under the age of 16 that they can easily get away with murder without a blink of the eye. We have made it clear to anyone under 16 that the worse someone might get for destroying or ending a life is juvie till 18.

You have to send one of them up the river. If no punishment is ever set that fits the crime cause "they are kids", then you are giving them free reign to commit any horrible act they wish because they know they won't get any sort of punishment that fits what they did.

Oh? And my suggestion of punishment.

10 years

All three would stay in juv till 18, if showed progress then would be on probation for the remaining years of sentence and would have to register as a sex offender (you heard me). If any were trouble makers during that time, they would spend the remaining years of their sentence in the main prison and then be given the chance to "do some good".

No reason they should avoid the sex offender tag just because they are kids. I don't want to hear that "didn't know any better" crap cause it's bull. We all knew better by this age and these kids are learning faster than we are.

Hell, that's another debate point: the "registered sex offender" malarky.

We don't make convicted bank robbers go around to local banks in their areas and announce their presence. We don't make convicted murderers walk door to door and tell all their neighbors what they've done. Why are sex offenders the only ones specifically targeted for "special treatment" after they're released from jails?

If they've done the time that needs to be it. Though I might lean towards the sex offender registry if a psychological profile suggests that, while the jail sentence is complete, the issues and dangerous obsessions are still present.
