Skywarp! Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 I have a PS2, and I'm aware that the PC and XBOX versions are superior. My question is: if I'm a SOCOM II addict, would this be a great game to get?
Blue Bacchus Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 In short No. This is more arcade like than tactical shooter. Although if you've played BF1942 or BFVietnam you've basically played this. I have the PC version and I like it but the BF series is better.
Special K Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 It's quite a fun game, but not SOCOM like. It has some auto-aim, and, um, you can play as robots and stormtroopers with jetpacks.
Lord of The Curry Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Sucks ass. The only positive things about it are that you get to play as the storm trooper w/ the jetpack and as a wookie.
Black Lushus Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 you know it's weird, as much as I love Star Wars, the only good game i've ever played was Shadows Of The Empire (I haven't played KOTOR yet)....sounds like that's still the case...Jedi Power Battles woulda been better had the control not sucked...

Please explain "arcade-like": do you mean it's run and gun? That's fine with me, too. I understand there's auto aim in this which sounds like the worst idea ever for online play. Still, the thought of being part of a battlefield mayhem is making me salivate. Maybe I should just go buy "Call of Duty".

I agree that Shadows of the Empire was definitely a great game, but I the first two Rogue Squadrons for N64 and GC were both really good, too. I never played the third.

That game was the shit back in the day.
Guest Smues Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 And X-wing. I used to like Rebel Assault, but really those games were terrible.
Ced Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 I test played it at my local GameCrazy. It's alright for what it is. I got most of my kicks doing what I using do in these types of games: playing the sniper and getting as many headshots as possible.
Scroby Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 I don't understand why people are comparing this game to Socom. As far as I know its nothing like Socom so there isn't a reason to compare it to Socom. Its a fun game thats basically a run and gun game. Its a fun game depending how into it you are.
Kardo Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Dark Forces II - Jedi Knight was awesome back in the day. Multiplayer was awesome with the force powers.
Guest bushwickray Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Dark Forces, Shadow of the empire and Super Star Wars were great games. Star Wars used to mean a great game then Master of Teri Kai came out and shot that theory to hell. The last Star Wars game I bought was Rouge leader and that's because I HAD to in order to get a Gamecube. I'm still pissed I can't beat the first level.
Guest JacK Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Teras Kesai sucked hard, I dunno how they could screw it up so bad. Though it was fun making people ring out and like fall off the planet. TIE Fighter rocked though, no doubt. I wish that it'd both work on my computer and I had the expansion . . . oh well, one day it'll all work out (I hope). What is Battlefront anyway? And do they like pop out a new game every couple of months or something?
Scroby Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 What is Battlefront anyway? And do they like pop out a new game every couple of months or something? Basically what Battlefront is you get to go and do all the wars that happen in all 5 movies so far and fight in them as part as the regular army. You can't be any one special but a Jedi will help you but it is controlled by the AI. On the battlefield you have to capture command posts or kill off the other army by killing a certain number of them, numbers are inbetween 100 and 200. Don't worry you get the same amount of "men" as well. Since your part as the regular armies you get to choose between 5 or 6 different classes of each army, you know like a regular solider, sniper, heavy solider, classes like that. And yes Star Wars pops out with a brand new game every couple of months, KOTOR 2 is out in a few months.
nogoodnick Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 A very fun game but definitely a rental. It can easily be beaten in a long afternoon. I havent gone online with it yet but the gameplay is starting to get stale. The AI is sometimes retarded and stormtroopers will stand there and stare at a wall while you blast them in the face. There isnt a lot of replay value beyond the first couple of days. Also the default spaceship controls will make you want to kill your self.
Special K Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Yeah, after further play, the fun dies down some. Still fun to pick up for a fight every now and then, but they could definitely included some more troop types, and had a couple epic space battles. It gets repetetive, and the same tactic usually works for most levels. Out of all the star wars games, TIE Fighter is definitely the best I've played, (and if you like those, colony wars is really fun too.) But I haven't played KOTOR.
