Who is the killer or killers in Identity Crisis?

Recommended Posts

Guest PlatinumBoy

Just read number 6....

Holy shit. They made BATMAN forget!!! I never thought it would come to that. I thought that someone put him in Light's memory. Makes you wonder if Clark's ever been mindwiped. No clue who the killer is yet--but I can't WAIT for issue 7. Great stuff.

I figured it was Bruce had been mindwiped.

And aside from the internal dialogue, the writer flat out said that Bats wouldn't solve it. I highly doubt it's Atom, unless it's a SWERVE.

He was already teased in Hush, I really doubt they would actually go ahead and do it anytime soon.

They went ahead and pretty much said he was alive in last Batman arc before War Games.

Not necessarily. We know that his body was missing, and that someone had recently used a Lazarus pit, but honestly, the ENTIRE Hush storyline was Riddler (and Hush) fucking with Batman to show him who was better. It could be as simple as - and I'm hoping this is the case - the villains stealing the body and hiding it, then insinuating Todd has been resurrected.

After reading IC #6, all I have to say is: the JLA, and Zatanna in particular, had better hope Bats NEVER finds out what they did to him.

I personally have no idea who the killer is, but I'm pretty sure the motivation is just to tear the League apart. you have people grieving, Atom's going to be pissed when they accuse him (if he is innocent) and Bats is going to lose his shit if and when he finds out they mind wiped him and others.

I think all the nostalgic pictures of the league will serve as a backdrop to a broken up league whose members don't trust each other.

The thing that I kept thinking about after reading the issue was: the League had better count their blessing that Bats is and always will be a hero - because if he were to ever find out about what they did to him, he could fuck them up ROYALLY if so motivated.

He's probably the guy you'd least want to have a vendetta against you.

No, the last one before that AS THE CROW FLIES had a more direct hint that Todd was alive.

He knows what they did. At least Green Arrow sure seems to hint that he does...

That would make such an awesome story.

This is WAY left field, but I could maybe, mayyyyybe see issue 7 feature someone getting mindwiped or something. Doubtful, but you never know (besides knowing Atom ain't a baddy).

Green Arrow only mentioned that Bats is a detective - so he's likely figured out that something happened on the station that was shady.

I don't think he actually knows the other JLA members mindfucked him.

I must say, though, Bats reaction to what they were doing to Light was perfectly done - I could picture him going absolutely fucking BALLISTIC if he were to walk in on that.

I have a feeling Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man is going to solve this case in the end. He IS unofficially the second greatest detective in the DCU. As for who the killer is, I really don't know at this point. I think Ray Palmer/The Atom is innocent, but then again, the evidence is against him. Luthor could certainly have a hand in it (he is both a scientific and financial genius) or it could be a villain with size changing powers.

After thinking about the tone of the series, I think we may have a second-tier villain doing the killings at the behest of an older villain. That way it boosts two characters, or perhaps the actual killer is axed.

I think that Lex suit from issue #1 might just become relevent here shortly.

---------------------------------------------------

The suit is a total red-herring and is supposed to be explained away in an upcoming issue of Teen Titans "ID Crisis Epiloge" tie-in where the Titans find out which lame villain was behind the whole suit selling thing Elongated Man was investigating...

As for the killer; cut and pasted from www.kbox.sanityassassins.net/forum (Box in the Box: Radio Free KBOX, a comic book/porn message board I frequent and recommen you guys check out). The following post was posted shortly after ID Crisis #6 came out and was posted by a friend of mine on the forum who is a friend of mine:

That being said, there are two other major problems with Ray Palmer being the killer, the first being that he expressed surprise when he happened upon Jean Loring hanging by the neck, which would not make much sense unless he was an amnesiac schizophrenic, and the second being that we still have at least one issue left in the miniseries, which means that the "revealed" killer can't be the true killer any more than Angela Lansbury can correctly identify whodunit even as soon as 10 minutes before the end of any given episode of Murder, She Wrote.

From The Flash #210, cover-dated July of '04:

Roscoe Dillon, a.k.a. the Top: It's on the tip of my tongue, you see. The very tip. The end of it all. [...] It's on the top of my brain! I know the secret. I found out the day I died. The second time. Allies and enemies. He wanted allies and enemies. I remember -- [...] When I find out, when I remember it all -- there's going to be such a war.

And in The Flash #215 (the "Identity Crisis Tie-In!" as it's called on the cover, and the most recent issue as of this writing), Wally West reads the letter from Barry Allen, in which Barry confesses that he had Zatanna do mental magic on the Top, to turn him good, which worked for a while, until the Top was overwhelmed by his guilt at all the bad he'd done as a supervillain, and promptly went completely bugfuck insane.

Once a human (well, superhuman) member of the Flash's Rogues Gallery, the Top has come back from the dead on any number of occasions by possessing the bodies of living people, among them Barry Allen's father and a clinically brain-dead young man whom he was inhabiting when Barry had Zatanna turn him "good," and whose body the Top left after he started freaking the fuck out and got himself captured by Barry.

Brad Meltzer went on record as saying that Geoff Johns' Identity Crisis tie-in issues on The Flash would "completely redefine how comic book crossovers are written," and while that will surely remain gross hyperbole by even the most charitable stretch of the imagination, I had wondered why Meltzer had taken the time to single out Johns' tie-in issues, out of all the titles that were choosing to cross over with Identity Crisis.

Roscoe Dillon, a.k.a. the Top, is the Identity Crisis killer.

He possessed Captain Boomerang, and the Atom, and every one of the however-many-various-and-sundry superheroes, supervillains and civilian supporting characters he's used to commit these murders.

He has motive, he has means, and especially when you consider how many of the developments in Identity Crisis have already been deliberately foreshadowed by Geoff Johns in The Flash (including the magical lobotomization of Doctor Light by all of the reserve-duty members of the Justice League who showed up in the Watchtower after the Spectre erased everyone's memories of Wally West being the Flash), he's been hinted at more than heavily enough.

I am so convinced of this theory that, if I am proven wrong in my postulations, I will willingly go to see the next Ben Affleck movie in the theaters. That's how goddamn certain I am on this one.

The problem with the Top is that he wasn't really mentioned in the actual IC issues, I doubt anybody in a tie-in will be the killer because not everybody buys all the tie-in issues.

Yea, Meltzer has said that it's not going to be anyone who doesn't appear in the series before. I'm sure it's not the Atom, except for ONE little thing. When he saves Jean... look at the length of the phone call before he zips out of it. It's 33 seconds. Seems a bit long for him to have not already zipped there...

i like the top idea as the one that will be revealed (and im someone whos been all over the luthor theory since day 1)

the dialogue and meltzer signaling it out add some weight to it

plus the flash and jsa tie-ins were always pushed as the bigger tie ins

Batman doesn't think it's Atom. He didn't send them after Ray... just to make sure he didn't leave.

I certainly didn't see that coming. To be honest, it's kind of a let-down.

Why did Jean suddenly go insane? Was it just because she wasn't with Ray? I realize her killing Sue was an accident, but the fact that she would even try it seems insane. Could someone really snap that easily? Anyway, I wonder if this story ties into the rumored "Crisis 2" in any way? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Comics need to stop with the big surprise pay-off stories. There's too much red tape and dissatisfaction within the companies to allow someone to change the entire creative make-up of characters. The ending to IC should have not dissappointed anyone. DC hasn't had a good mystery pay-off in 2 decades. Marvel has been far worse.
