MrRant Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 I guess they won the championship last night. First title in Seattle in 25 years. Umm... wooo? Although Bird is hot.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Did they beat the Liberty? Are the Liberty even still in it?
KingPK Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 They beat the Connecticut Sun, the only professional sports team that I know of that plays home games in a casino (Mohegan Sun, which has a 10,000 seat arena right in the middle of the place).

Guest Anglesault Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Wait, there's woman's basketball? Even someone like me, who hates basketball, can call it some pretty shitty basketball.
Styles Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Wait, there's woman's basketball? Even someone like me, who hates basketball, can call it some pretty shitty basketball. I'm baffled, women playing basketball. Next they'll want the right to vote or something...
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 I'm surprised it wasn't either the Liberty, Sparks or Comets.
The Czech Republic Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 I'm surprised you know that many WNBA teams.
Guest Banders Kennany Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 There's like three teams in the WNBA with sun-related names (Sol, Mercury, Sun). Even more when you count outer-space-related names into it (Comets too then). I think the Sacramento name is one of the worst...Monarchs? What was wrong with oh, you know, QUEENS? You know, since they are girls and all. That's like having the Los Angeles Men and the WNBA counterpart as the Los Angeles Boys.
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Why would you be surprised that it wasn't the Liberty? They've never won it before, and are 0-4 in the Finals... they're the Bills of the WNBA.

"Monarchs" is meant to be for the butterfly; besides, "Queens" has a very negative connotation in Sacramento...

Theres already a basketball team in Sacramento called the Queens*.. *by people in LA only.

Yeah but it just seemed to me that they always made it to the Finals, so to have it be two teams that I never saw being in Finals before is surprising, that's all.

You know, if it were just the people in LA (or Laker fans) who said it, I could just about tolerate it, kind of like the way Yankee fans always fuck with Red Sox fans... but, ever since the Big Dumbass-totle first said it, it's spread across the league like wildfire; now, even fucking Grizzlies fans use it... what the fuck have the Grizzlies ever done for their fans to be talking shit to anybody? Slayer Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Sue Bird is teh hot Wait, basketball what?
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Well...Detroit Shock won it last year. Look for a improbable out of nowhere championship season from Seatle Supersonics this year.
Guest GreatOne Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 With Ray Allen wanting a trade daily, Rashard Lewis eclipsing Koren Robinson for the title of Seattle's most underachieving pro athlete, and only Jerome James around to do nothing this time around, SEATTLE SUPERSONICS: 2004-05 NBA CHAMPS. RECOGNIZE, BIOTCH!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: Actually since the Shock beat the Sparks (oh god I actually know NICKNAMES of WNBA teams) but there's no NBA team in UConn I guess the Sonics beat the Celtics then. Your 2005 NBA Finals: Seattle Sonics-Boston Celtics. RATINGS!!!!!!!!~
Chuck Woolery Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 As probably the only person in here to watch any of the series... you guys didn't miss much. There was a five-minute stretch in game three where nobody scored. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen, especially when you consider that the first two games were relatively well-contested. It's still not the NBA or even college hoops, but it's a nice enough diversion. And Lauren Jackson > Sue Bird.
lomasmoney Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Yeah I didn't know we had a team in Detroit until they won it
sfaJack Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 And Lauren Jackson > Sue Bird. I'm gonna have to see some naked pictures of Sue Bird before I can agree with you on that. You know, to make a totally fair (and unbiased) judgment.
Guest GreatOne Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 She's not as sweet as you think she is............. Or at least I THINK that was her in that ad that was on NBA TV last year........................
treble Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 The only reason that our local paper covers the league is because there's a girl who went to high school here who plays for Washington.
Mecha Mummy Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Hunh. Well, I live in Seattle so this is cool, I guess. We won something, yay.
