SNL Review

Between this one, her sister, and her Mom hitting the Jackpot, I'm going to make like George Bush Sr and declare that The Simpsons are what's wrong with America.

I thought it was Jennifer Lopez's Mom that hit the jackpot.

Yeah, lyrically she sucks, and her vocals are hit or miss based on what day it is. But the actual music behind it isn't as bad as other music in her genre.

The background music doesn't work though. It doesn't fit her voice or the tone of the song. The whole thing comes across as very messy.

AND HILARY DUFF SUCKS ASS. I really can't fathom how anyone can enjoy Hilary Duff, have a Y chromosome, and say someone else's music sucks at the same time.

Because I like her music. She has good song writers (Charles Midnight and Kara DioGuardi) and her music is fun to listen to. Simple as that.

That question's hard to answer because it varies on who you talk to, what side they're on, and how strongly biased they are to that side, and in an election year everyone's bias goes through the roof.

Suffice it to say, you could put on a public access show ala Wayne's World and get more viewers than MSNBC.

I always just heard MSNBC was kind of biased. Their website is very hard to read.

Also, if anyone ever compared an artist to Avril, that would be a tremendous negative in my book, not a positive. Go away, whiny pseudo-punk girl.

Avril's good though- she writes her own music and has a great voice. And she never claimed to be punk.

MSNBC dosen't know what it wants to be, everyone thought they were trying to be the liberal network when they hired Phil Donohue, but then they canceled him and replaced him with Michael Savage (who was quickly fired) and Joe Scarborough.

What's so fun about having your ears bleed?

Her lyrics still blow, but at least her band, or whoever the hell writes the music, at least attempts to add build and musical hooks to the songs. Not to mention the effective use of loud/soft, slow/fast dynamics in "Peices of Me". Yeah, the song blows, but it's better than most of the pop shit that's out today.

I agree with you about the hooks and stuff, but that doesn't make it better than the pop music out there, it makes it about the same.

Avril's good though- she writes her own music and has a great voice. And she never claimed to be punk.

Give some credit to Avril's writing partners though. Working with Chantal Kreviazuk seems to have helped her out.

She does have a nice ass. Musically, her cover of "We Got The Beat" was decent, but other than that her stuff doesn't do much for me.

Yea- Collaborating with the guy from Our Lady of Peace, Butch Walker, Ben Moody and Chantal has really helped out her music. So did ditching the Matrix.

Hilary (with her sister) covered 'Our Lips Are Sealed' not 'We Got the Beat'. The original version of Our Lips is horrible and I thought despite Hailey's presence- the Duff's version is better

Alright, he bashed the Gogos. Bob finally pissed me off.

Seriously, the only criticism of the Duff sisters' duet I have is that I couldn't tell the difference between their voices.

I don't think the cover sounded that different from the original. So I don't think a "the original sucked, but the new version is good" argument holds water."

Was it? Jesus, I hate way too many people to keep track of them all these days.

Besides, we all know that Jennifer Lopez is really just Jessica Simpson in a wig.

Nay.

- she writes her own music

Doesn't matter.

and has a great voice.

I'll disagree. And if she does then she doesn't play to her own strengths. That one tune where she goes into a yodeling solo in the middle of the track, aye carumba.

And she never claimed to be punk.

Well, the image is that she's some sort of antithesis to Britney Spears, when her fame is every bit as manufactured.

Shit- the board ate my post.

I like some of the GoGos stuff but I don't like Our Lips.

I was able to figure out the voices just cause Hilary has the younger higher voice.

"Spreading rumours so far from true" is Hailey.

I think the Duff's version is more energetic, and it's a lot of fun to listen to. The GoGos version is kind of dull.

Does Avril actually write her own songs? It seems that for all of her songs she's credited as part of a team of 3 or 4 writers.

Avril wrote nothing on Let Go.

She wrote Take Me Away, Don't Tell Me and Freak Out by herself.

She wrote Breakway for Kelly Clarkson.

Everything else on Under My Skin she wrote with someone else.

That's 'I'm With You.' She shows off her great voice on songs like Tomorrow, Things I'll Never Say, Why, Nobody's Home, Slipped Away and her Christian music.

Well, the image is that she's some sort of antithesis to Britney Spears, when her fame is every bit as manufactured.

She actually was supposed to be more of a Faith Hill type singer since her demo tape was her singing Christian songs.

She met with producers and told them the kind of songs she really wanted to sing and they wrote Complicated for her. The rest is history.

I did mean to say that. I feel ashamed to have gotten my Go-Gos songs mixed up...

...ok, all better now.

Avril Lavigne's new album Under My Skin is in stores now. Raine lent his production talents to 5 of the songs on the album and co-wrote one song, Fall To Pieces. Chantal Kreviazuk also had a hand in co-writing 4 of the songs on the album.

"He Wasn't" (produced by Raine Maida, co-written by Chantal Kreviazuk)

"How Does It Feel" (produced by Raine Maida, co-written by Chantal Kreviazuk)

"Who Knows" (produced by Raine Maida, co-written by Chantal Kreviazuk)

"Fall To Pieces" (produced and co written by Raine Maida)

"Slipped Away" (produced by Raine Maida, co-written by Chantal Kreviazuk)

Just one of the many reasons it's been two plus years since OLP's last album! Grrr.

A MSNBC exec was once quoted as saying that they wanted their network to be like FOX News. Something about being "edgy." I don't know if he still works there or not.

Swear to God, ya'll need to pop in some Metallica.

I've never seen someone misspell y'all before. Anyhow, fuck Metallica, listen to Black Label Society.
