teke184 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2004 Aides to Yasser Arafat have dismissed Israeli media reports that the Palestinian president’s health has seriously deteriorated over the last few days, and insisted that he is only suffering from flu. Increased speculation over the severity of the 75-year-old leader’s ill health came as six Tunisian doctors arrived in the West Bank to examine Arafat. The Tunisians, who flew into the city of Ramallah after receiving permission from Israel, were the second group of foreign doctors to examine Arafat after he became ill more than a week ago. Egyptian doctors saw him earlier last week. The group, which includes among them an ear, nose and throat specialist, will perform a precautionary exam said the Tunisian representative in the West Bank, Ahmed al-Habasi, who visited Arafat on Friday. “The president is in good health. He is suffering from a cold,” al-Habasi said. “There is nothing to worry about.” Arafat has long been rumoured to suffer from Parkinson’s disease. Aides admit he suffers from neurological injuries caused by a near-fatal plane crash in Libya in 1992. Arafat’s condition was so bad on Friday that he was unable to complete the first day of Ramadan prayers and unlike past years, he did not receive delegations arriving at his West Bank headquarters for his holiday blessings. According to Debkafile – an online Israeli news site specialising in political and intelligence analysis – Palestinian sources have privately confirmed that Arafat is more seriously ill than officials admit. The website also claims that, following their examination, the Tunisian doctors will determine whether or not Arafat requires immediate surgery. Should that be necessary he would then be flown overseas via the Jordanian capital Amman. With growing challenges to Arafat’s leadership from within the Palestinian movement, and the Israeli government’s determination to isolate him, any return to the West Bank after such an absence would prove very difficult say analysts. Link I'm skeptical that Arafat only has the flu as has been publically stated, although something as simple as that could be very dangerous at his age. You don't send out two large teams of doctors to diagnose someone with the flu. The best Israel can hope for is that Arafat has to leave Ramallah for treatment and that they can keep him from returning, if he actually recovers.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2004 I always thought Arafat was the one who wanted peace and no one ever listened to him? Or am I confused?
teke184 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2004 Arafat was part of the peace process in the mid-90s but has been a serious impediment to further peace. His inept leadership of the Palestinian Authority, rampant cronyism within its ranks, and his inability to stop Palestinian violence against the Israelis, including suicide bombings, has lead people to believe that the peace process can't go forward until Arafat is out of power, either by choice or by his death. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2004 The best thing I can really say now is "Hopefully he accepts Christ" but that's a bit doubtful. Hopefully he doesn't feel too much pain if he dies
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2004 Hopefully he doesn't feel too much pain if he dies On the contrary, I hope he suffers tremendously. I hope he's in blinding agony for days. Maybe i'm just covering my tracks. So basically, he will be suffering big time in the afterlife.

teke184 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2004 According to Yahoo and other sources, there is a steady stream of doctors and Arab dignitaries heading in and out of Arafat's compound in Ramallah. There are also rumors that he's lost consciousness, which are being denied by the Palestinians. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...fat_s_health_14 Everything is sketchy right now, but I'm sure we'll hear something more concrete within 24 hours. If Arafat is conscious, I think they'll put a TV camera in front of him just to prove he's still alive. Otherwise, they'll make a play for time and hope he recovers. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted October 28, 2004 CNN says he's in critical condition, yet conscious. He can't keep food down and he's too weak to walk. I hope he makes a full recovery. Than I hope Israel catches him and tortures him until he dies in 2 years from the mind-numbing pain inflicted upon him. -=Mike

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Well, I can't say I'm wishing him well. Honestly, I hope he chokes on his own vomit and dies. It'll do worlds of good towards helping get a peace plan off the ground, presuming we have a President who actually will put together a peace plan.
Guest INXS Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Sad news. I've his heard his wife and daughter have travelled to see him, who were living in Exile. News reports here are saying that Israel are allowing him to leave the country for medical help but that he won't be allowed to return if he does indeed recover. He lost his way in the last few years and has failed to help stop attacks on Israel (though it should be noted that he doesn't condone any violence) as the Palestinian terrorist groups grow more and more frustrated at Israel's actions. If he does indeed die shortly I shudder to think what carnage will ensue in the region.
teke184 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 If he does indeed die shortly I shudder to think what carnage will ensue in the region. As opposed to what's going on now? The only difference is that it will be Palestinians killing each other rather than them killing some Israelis then the IDF killing a lot of Palestinian "freedom fighters" in response. News reports here are saying that Israel are allowing him to leave the country for medical help but that he won't be allowed to return if he does indeed recover. Because, as we all know, a terrorist thug who has killed untold thousands of innocents as part of his political plan is somebody we just want to see live a long and fruitful life. He lost his way in the last few years and has failed to help stop attacks on Israel (though it should be noted that he doesn't condone any violence) as the Palestinian terrorist groups grow more and more frustrated at Israel's actions. He doesn't condone any violence? Of course not. Why would ANYBODY think that? Sure, he called for the intifadas and all --- but hey, he probably didn't really mean it. I bet he didn't even say "Simon says kill all Jews", so it doesn't count. And what Israeli actions frustrated them? Hitting them with body parts when a monkey bombed a bus? If he does indeed die shortly I shudder to think what carnage will ensue in the region. Far less than has been unleashed by the subhuman. -=Mike
