Jimmy Johnson on FOX already started the verbal blowjobs for Favre. I can't wait for all the "Pack is Back!" talk all this week. Hey, me neither. Even though it was Green that had the big play of the day. And hey it's deserved. With the exception of the Tennessee game, they've been in all of their games, and really they should be 5-2, not 3-4 (those Giants and Bears games should have been wins). Oh and I want to hear how fast the bandwagon falls apart for Philly and Minnesota especially after today's close call against Cleveland and when the Vikings begin their usual mid-to-late season chokejob. Week 10 should be very interesting...

Hell the game shouldn't even had gone to overtime thanks to a horrible roughing the passer call on 4th down.

The Giants clearly outplayed Green Bay. The Giants, being the Giants, of course turned the ball over in the red zone and missed 3 field goals. It should not have been that close. And I know Favre was injured, but he could not get the Packers past mid field in the 1st half. I don't hate the Packers, it's just that because of Favre, they are deified by the media. He's the Derek Jeter of the NFL, all the announcers love him and even when he makes bad plays (like last year in the Phili. playoff game), he doesn't get criticized. He's an "untouchable" of the NFL. Plus, their defense is just not that good

At 2-5 they're in trouble but still in range of the wildcard if they can get healthy and put a run together, however unlikely that is looking at the moment, a shame they couldn't have spread out that offensive explosion against the Packers over a few of their other games.

The Giants only scored once Pederson threw an INT (I forget whether it was his first or second) in Packer territory, and STILL New York had trouble getting the score until Warner threw the TD pass to Shockey. You're right, it shouldn't have been that close, but since it was, that pretty much seals my argument that Green Bay had kept themselves in the game despite the terrible run defense, no Favre (with quite possibly the worst quarterback on earth running the offense), and a turnover lovefest. That seems to have done a 180 since last week at Detroit and now against Dallas. The offense seems fired up, and while the secondary is still giving up too many big plays, they are playing well the closer the other team gets to the goal line, similar to how the Eagles have been racking up their wins. Having Grady Jackson and James Lee back now should also be a tremendous boost, since the linebacking corps for Green Bay is quite undersized and they need big guys up front to make it work. This was a byproduct of the Donatell defensive scheme, ironically. And don't even come close to comparing Favre to Derek fucking Jeter. Favre is far from the prettyboy showoff that Jeter is, though I do understand perhaps why people would be upset at the praise he might get. But for fuck's sake, it's ESPN. They always latch on to superstar players. If all you watched was that and ignored all the smaller details, you'd ignore the other good players on the team, like Green, or now Walker (who's quietly sneaked up right behind Randy Moss and Terrell Owens in TD's caught and leads the NFL in receiving yards), Driver, Franks, and Sharper on the other side of the ball along with Barnett who was a runner up in defensive rookie of the year honors last year.

Oh, and Montana was never much of an athlete compared to many of the other great quarterbacks of his era (this always brings on some great discussion). Marino and Elway were light years better, but were stuck with no real running game for a long time, hell I think Young was probably a better QB than Montana. Montana had all the intangibles though (the leadership and all that) and was a clutch guy, but the same could be said for Elway and Favre as well (#1 and #2 in comeback wins by QB, if I remember correctly). I think I hate hearing about Michael Jordan and Deion Sanders a lot more, although their praise is deserved. The whole latching on to a superstar is all a way of trying to grab rtings anyways, let them do what they want, obviously it's working for em.
NoCalMike Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 The thing about the NFL is, if your defense is in the lower third, hell even lower half, then you should never be suprised when they lose a random game here and there. Despite the Skins going through the Spurrier woes last year, they lost a handful of games, when they HAD THE LEAD IN THE 4th quarter. The Miami, and Carolina games immediately come to mind. This year though, they have the #2 defense so far and have been in every single game(I know they haven't exactly played the class teams of the league yet). When you have a good defense, you can expect to be in close tight games all year long, with hopefully the offense being inept enough to get it done, however when your defense is HORRIBLE, you should NEVER expect to win all the time.

Favre is working behind a tremendous O-line, at least they have been so far this year, but you witness it like we all do that everytime a seam in that line breaks, and Favre gets pressured, he will force bad throws into double coverage. The Cowboys dropped a couple sure INTs today, that wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, but would have kept it a couple of scores closer. That is the give and take with a Brett Favre because he is a gun slinger at heart. He always wants to make that play. The key is pressure. We will see if my 'Skins can even get any one him this week. Arrington and Daniels are both coming back from injurues to strengthen an already good defense.

Montana was a pretty good all-around athlete. I believe there was a Sports Illustrated article back in the day that showed him dunking a basketball, so he was pretty athletic. Marino, after a couple years, was nowhere near as mobile as Montana, even into Montana's later years. Montana had all the intangibles though (the leadership and all that) and was a clutch guy, but the same could be said for Elway and Favre as well (#1 and #2 in comeback wins by QB, if I remember correctly). I think Marino might be #2, but I could be wrong.
