I made the tough decision yesterday to watch Taxi instead of Surviving Christmas. Did I make the right choice? Jimmy Fallon singing in the taxi was hard on the ears.

Wow...the Grudge did do well. And beecacuse of that...I think SAW will get very low numbers. The commercial looks decent enough, but most..that saw the Grudge probaly aren't going to see SAW.

It's a shame Raise Your Voice got ranked from 1,000 screens. It's held up real well after the disasterous first week and it's per screen average only fell 20-30% from last week.

LL maybe a slightly better draw on the acting department (even though I think her fame will die soon) though she has a lot of catching to do with Hilary in other areas.

 

Raise Your Voice was just given no support by New Line. Shame since the movie was really good

Maybe this is just me personally...but when I saw the previews for The Grudge, then the previews for SAW...it just sort of rang to me, they're basically the same movie. Just one has SMG. Yea, I know...that's most likely not the case, but..just saying. If I were to watch...I'd just see one, rather then going to see both, and well, the Grudge had the luxury of coming out first. Now of course..I could be way off and SAW may do even better, but that's just MO.

Saw and The Grudge are basically the same movie? I haven't a clue how you would've come to such an conclusion. That's like saying Total Recall and Face/Off are basically the same movie.

 

Also don't underestimate the draw of horroresque movies in the last two weeks of October. The Grudge doesn't seem like the type of movie that has box office staying power, so Saw should have a willing audience.

I have to agree with Satanico. I saw Grudge this weekend, and I quite frankly don't think it has ANY staying power whatsoever. It's a decent flick, but not one that will inspire a lot of repeat business.....it might do decent numbers next weekend, seeing as it's Halloween weekend and all, but that'll be about it for the flick. I'm kind of surprised it made as much as it did, I would have figured it'd top at about 22 mill.

Holy crap. The Grudge has a production budget of......... $10 million.

 

Good investment. It's already a very big hit for the studio.

 

on another note, Ben Afflick makes the worst choices in movies to make. Ever. I can't remember the last time I saw a trailer for an Affleck movie and thought "that looks good" (the only exception being Daredevil, which was more of a "hey, it's a Daredevil movie!" thought, cuz i'm a comics fan).

Team America deserves much more love than it's getting. My eight year old sister saw The Grudge, and didn't jump ONCE. She said, like Downhome, that the movie blatantly TELLS YOU when something is about to happen. I'm going to see Ray and Saw next week; both have been getting good reviews.

 

Bob, you can't keep walking that line between "Duff fan" and "Duff obsession". Eventually you've gotta fall on one side or the other.
