Favourite 'Mark Out' moments

Recommended Posts

For my top one, I remember going nuts when Chris Jericho interrupted the Steve Austin promo on the Raw after Judgement Day 2001, and set up the tag title match later in the show. Then I marked out all over again when Jericho/Benoit won. That certainly was a great night to be a Y2J fan.

Other than that:

HBK getting the 3 count at SummerSlam 2002

Austin's appearance at Backlash 2000. It was inevitable that he was coming out, and he may have been looking chunky, but I loved it anyway.

Kurt Angle kicking out of stunner after stunner at SummerSlam 2001.

I have a Top 5...in order...

5) The Death of WCW in Panama City Beach. This is more an emotional moment than a mark out moment, though seeing Vince on TNT was just...amazing in it's own right. The promo from Flair later on in the night and the subsequent Sting match made it a great night, even if it did end with Shane McMahon.

4) Shawn Michaels Returns at Summerslam 2002. Yes, for a moment I delved back 8 years in the past and had visions of WM12 all over again. I was screaming like a little girl for HBK to defeat HHH and show the world he still had what it takes. For that moment, I didn't care about the backstage workings of either man, I just wanted Shawn to win...when he got the three count...the room i was in was entirely on their feet. It was beautiful.

3) "But which side is he on!?" - Screamed out by The Brain as Hulk Hogan rushed to the ring to save the day, only to turn on his former friends and begin the NWO in 96. The aftermath of the moment is forever imprinted in my mind, as trash rained down on the ring from all sides.

2) Chris Benoit - World Heavyweight Champion - WMXX. Nuff Said.

and finally...

1) Mankind - WWF Champion, Raw 1/4/99 - In a moment that I doubt will EVER be topped for me personally, Mankind became the WWF Champion. The end of the match saw clusterfucks galore and one of the largest reactions I've EVER seen for Stone Cold Steve Austin...but all of that didn't matter. I don't care how he won it...but Mick won it. The cheers after he won topped the Austin cheers, and that made the victory all the sweeter. Seeing him rush around the ring with the belt and being held on DXs shoulders...it still gives me chills to this day.

I hadn't watched Nitro that night, and had no idea it was happening (even though it was taped). It was a shock to me and a moment i won't ever forget. For one night, everything was perfect.

Also, basically the entire Rock/Hogan match at Wrestlemania. I wasn't much of a Hulk mark at all during my childhood, but man, I was going nuts in that match.

Good times.

When Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam did a run in durring a Mike Awesome/Lance Storm vs Kane/Somebody else match. Then Awesome, Storm, Dreamer, and Van Dam all beat down the others guys.

Then Rhyno, Bubba, D-Von, Credible, Tazz, and Tajiri all face off with the 4 ECW guys. Then you realize "These guys are all ECW," then they do the slow turn and just beat the piss out of Kane and whoever the shit he was teaming with.

Then Paul E jumps in the ring and ties it all together. That was maybe my favorite wrestling moment ever...

Then they ruin it completly later in the show :(

The somebody else was Chris Jericho, I think. Great moment when Heyman gets in there and says that the war is being taken 'to the extreme'.

- Jericho winning the Undisputed Title. Didn't matter to me that it was a screwjob since you know the only way he could possibly win would be to cheat or have cheaters come to his rescue.

- Benoit winning the RR and at WMXX. Pretty obvious ones.

- Warrior actually pinning Hulk Hogan at WMVI. I kinda figured he'd win since it'd be pretty anti-climatic to put the IC Title on Hogan, but I thought the match was great nonetheless.

- Ric Flair going the distance at RR92. It was the 1st RR I got to see live on ppv and he did a remarkable job of shitting his pants regardless of who came through the curtain. Even Heenan built everyone up as a threat . . . "Uh oh, it's Nikolai Volkoff, ANOTHER 300 pounder! Oh God!"

- Macho Man finally has enough of Hogan's crap and attacks him during the 2/89 Main Event.

- The above stated ECW reformation during Raw. Just a beautiful segment followed later on by one that was positively depressing for the short and long term.

- The entire 1991-92 Savage/Roberts feud. Pure hatred, pure emotion, pure carnage . . . it was impossible to predict what would happen next.

- The entire 1999 Big Show/Bossman feud from an entertainment standpoint. I'd be watching wondering how they could stoop so low. However, I'd be laughing my ass off at all the segments . . . and it was just surreal to have a Big Show/Bossman feud for the WWF Championship.

No Contest, HBK winning at WM XII.

That is followed by HBK's return v. HHH and Benoit Title win.

Although it's been said, yeah, Benoit winning at WM XX, and the ECW invasion for sure. I was too shocked to mark out when Jericho won the Undisputed Title, but then was pretty much marking hard after.

Although I'm pretty sure I'm alone on this (damn you Edge haters!), but Edge returning ruled. Yeah, not the best way to return (spearing Bischoff), but hell if I cared!

And two more markout moments were two different title "changes". Jericho's phantom win on Triple H ruled. RVD's phantom win over Taker was awesome too. It was just so out of no where. I actually remember jumping out of my seat.

last time I truly marked out was when Jericho debuted in August 99. It was the best debut I've ever seen in wrestling. Plus, the internet was a different scene back then, and it was just great to see all the WCW marks rush and try to defend the company and try to downplay Jericho's debut. Just a great moment.

The ECW reunion-that actually had me and my friends jumping up and down.

Michaels' return at Summerslam 02.

Jericho/Chyna from Survivor Series 99, particularly when Jericho countered her rana into the Walls.

The Austin/Rock brawl from the pre-WMX7 Smackdown, mainly because I didn't think they had the balls to go through with it.

:headbang:

The Hart Foundation reforming, followed by Bret telling off American fans.

The wall of fire at Kane's wedding when Matt and Lita tried to leave.

ECW Reformation on Raw. I got a phone call at 130 am from a fellow ecw mark. I saw it the next day, at his house, even though I knew word for word what happened, I marked out when the music played.

Mikey beating the Sandman.

Benoit at WM20. I havent watched wrestling much since ECW folded, but I've always liked Benoit, and hated Michaels. I do recall screaming, in a crowded bar "tape you son of a bitch....YES!", a lot of it probably because my buddies are all HBK marks.

I would say Mikey beating the Sandman as well, but with ECW from 95-97 I never saw it till much later after it happened, so there wasn't much shock for me.

But Mikey debuting at WCW Uncensored 99 and stealing the show with Kidman made me pop...although they burried him for having a match that good.

Sting Winning The World Title.....the 7-8 televised ones.

The Ultimate Warrior debuting in WCW.

The Ultimate Warrior Winning the World Title.

Vader vs Sting-Strap Match Superbrawl III?

Hugh Morrus winning the US Title, he was getting one of the better crowd reactions of all the roster members and he earned it.

Ric Flair winning the World Title from Vader upon his return to WCW in...94 I believe.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin, the heel...this was the first time since his WCW run I enjoyed watching Austin.

My last true jump out of my seat mark out moment was when Sting and Goldberg locked it up in 98 on Monday Nitro. Sting had the Scorpion locked in on Goldberg, and everytime Goldberg would try to power out Sting would lock it back in further. The whole crowd wanted Sting to end the streak right there. They may have chanted Goldberg during his entrance, but the fans were probably truly on their feet for that moment. Then as per usual, Mr. "I Could Ruin A Wet Dream" Hogan does a run in, and nails Sting with the weakest kick I have ever seen. That moment made me realize how much WCW had been filled with backstage politics.

Most of Hogan/Rock from WM X-8, but if anyone wasn't marking out from him Hulking Up needs a kick in the soiled pants.

HHH/Jericho match thankfully had no heat to it because of the amount of energy the crowd spent on Hogan/Rock.

~Entire Hogan/Rock WM 18 match

~The second Bret's music hit on the first commercial for WWE Anthology

~When Vince turned around nWo was on the chair

~Reformation of ECW

~Jericho's WWF debut, still gives me chills

~Benoit winning RR 04, knowing Backlash was here in Edmonton, I still didn't think Benoit would win. I just didn't believe it would happen, it did.

~Again, I thought there was no chance in hell Benoit would win, but WM XX, one of the greatest moments in wrestling history as far as I'm concerned

~Starting most of those loud Bret/Benoit chants at Backlash and looking around at the crowd and seeing literally EVERYONE joining in

~The entire main event of Canadian Stampede, especially the pops getting increasingly louder as each Foundation member comes out, then finally Bret's music hits. Wow.
