And So it Begins

Mets and Alou agree on a one year contract worth from 6-8 million, with an option for a second year. Don't have a link but, it's believable.

I think this is a very solid move by the Mets. He won't duplicate last season but he's still good for .280 and 25-30 knocks. If Reyes, Matsui and Cameron get on he'll put up good RBI numbers. I thought they'd give him 10 mil and more years so I'm impressed that they got him relatively cheap.

Would the White Sox sign him? He played for them, and he'd be able to stay in Chicago.

Stoney? Nah. I think he's done. The era of quality Chicago broadcasting is over. There used to be a time when WGN wrote the book on airing a ball game.

Personally, I don't think Reinsdorf would be willing to pay Steve Stone. Otherwise, I see the White Sox as his next team to announce for. Unless some team makes an offer to him with a future GM tag in the contract, I don't see why he would want to move out of the area.

I think he lives in Phoenix in the offseason anyway. And it's really a shame, all of this, because I'd take Steve Stone as color man OR manager with the Cubs, the guy just rules. I think the Len Kasper/Bob Brenly team is really going to make the loss set in.

Cameron just had surgery on his wrist and may miss the first week or two of the season.

The Alou signing is OK, for some reason, I didn't know he was that good for the Cubs last year (.293, 39 HR, 106 RBI). It beats Floyd (who will probably be gone -- prolly for Sosa or hopefully, for Manny) or they could have Floyd in LF w/ Alou in RF -- if Floyd is gone, it'll be Alou in left, Victor Diaz in right.

Well Wade Miller has been non-tendered.

Astros non-tendered RHP Wade Miller.

Lance Berkman, Roy Oswalt, Mike Lamb, Brandon Duckworth, Peter Munro and Tim Redding were all tendered. Miller will get more from another team than he would have in arbitration from the Astros. If his shoulder was sound, he shouldn't have had any trouble getting Russ Ortiz money. As is, expect offers from the usual suspects. The Yankees and Red Sox will try to bring him in to as a sixth starter, and the Mariners and Dodgers could promise him rotation spots.

Please get him Theo...please!

Miller would be a nice pickup for Seattle, but they can't have much more cash after shelling out for Sexson/Beltre.

As long as he doesn't go to Boston I'm happy.

As long as he doesn't go to the Yanks or Red Sox, I'm happy

You got our busted up shoulder pitcher. Cheer the Red Sox on to get Houston's.

Haha. Whatever, I really DON'T want him to sign with the Braves. They're really good at reclaiming pitchers.

In line with the Alou signing for the Mets, Mike Cameron will open the season on the DL after recently having wrist surgery. He'll be back in May by the earliest. The Mets back up center fielders last year were Joe McEwing and Gerald Williams. Can Diaz play center? I'll take Valent.
