The Pudge signing was huge because he was the catalyst to a WS title, but overall this would be a bigger signing. It's for multiple years and now that Lowell, Cabrera, LoDuca, Beckett, and Willis are all in place for at least 3 more years - adding Delgado for multiple years would ensure that they are contenders for years to come. I would rank it as the biggest signing, yeah.

I always got the impression that Pudge just signed with them since they were the only team that offered him any kind of money and he didn't have much of a choice.

Plus, they could potentially get him at a bargain price, if they leverage his age and his "off-year" in 2004.

He made just nine errors. Rollins earned $2,425,000 last year. I didn't realize Rollins was so good last year. Houston, IMO, is on the verge of falling off bigtime. Bagwell and Biggio are close to done, Kent walked, Wade Miller walked, losing Beltran was a huge blow to their future, may as well keep around Clemens one more year to have that big marquee name during the Killer B's last hurrah. The arbitrator would obviously split the difference between Clemens' price and the Stros' offer, probably 16-17 mil. For a one year deal it's worth it.

Beckett, however, is in his 4th year of service, and can't be a free agent until after the '06 World Series. So what happens now? He's only signed for one year, but he's bound to the Marlins for 3 more years. Renegotiate after this season?

This was first reported by WFAN's Ed Coleman by cell phone and he was pulled over by the police for driving while on a cell phone. Michael Kay on ESPN 1050 has also confirmed it.

Ryan got a significant raise from 1.3 million last year to 2.6 million this upcoming year. If anyone deserved though, he did. Jorge Julio and John Parish still remain unsigned and btoh have a good chance of ending up in arbitration. They signed, among three others, Enrique Wilson, to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. I don't quite understand that one as they are pretty set at second.

After the season, the Marlins and Beckett go through the same process. Most arbitration eligible players follow this route actually. Regarding Clemens, that $22 Million is the most ridiculous offer I have ever heard. The Astros will EASILY get their offer in a hearing. The question is whether Clemens will pitch. Quite honestly, if I were the Astros, I would tell Clemens to take a flying leap at this point. And Bored, how is Ed Wade an idiot? I've been less than enamored with his moves, but I would absolutely have offered Polanco arbitration in that instance, knowing that I get two draft picks in return. Given the insane market, who would have guessed that Polanco would have accepted the offer? Still, Polanco makes them better, and there's no reason Wade couldn't still trade Polanco if he had the opportunity. Polanco absolutely makes the Phillies a better team, and it is hard to get upset at that.
