The 40 LEAST Metal moments

Recommended Posts

Anyone watching VH1 right now, they've got a special on called the 40 Least Metal moments.

I did not know Mariah Carey covered Def Leppard...I must shoot myself now.

Can we go with the atrocity that was Avril Lavigne covering Metallica's "Fuel".. Or hell, just that whole mtvICON show?

I saw a clip saying that Bon Scott would be making the list with his recorder...fagging on Bon Scott is sacrilige.

Considering he made a bagpipe metal...I agree

And what's wrong with Jimmy Page...he won't let Cameron Crowe use "Stairway" in a pivitol scene in "Almost Famous", but let P. Diddy rape "kashmir" is fine with him.

I have to disagree with Metal and Symphony, I dug S&M, but them I have a preference for bombastic and operatic things.

Because of Mariah or because of Def Leppard?

I pick Def Leppard as the bigger offender, but anyone who would cover a Def Leppard song needs their head examined.

Why must I be reminded of that?

And who thought that Avril covering "Fuel" was a good idea?

Not sure if Metallica themselves thought it was a good idea... but given their decisions in the last couple of years, I wouldn't doubt it

Supposedly there were live mp3s on the net of Avril covering System of a Down's "Chop Suey!" However, she didn't put out the effort to learn the lyrics and just ends up screaming gibberish.

Heh, yes, I have weakness for it as well. Who has all done it so far? I know of KISS, Metallica, and Scorpions for certain.

It's been a while since I've seen/heard a new Vh1 list -- guess they must be running out of ideas, thank God...

Naw, they've got plenty of ideas still. They haven't done the Top VH1 Lists marathon...yet.

I watched part of this list ... until I remembered that all of these awful VH1 list-shows piss me off.

First of all, shouldn't appearing in VH1 be worthy of a place on a "Least Metal" list?!?

Second of all, am I the only one that noticed the irony of people like LA Guns making fun of hair bands like Bon Jovi or Europe?

Third of all, did anyone really consider a band like Nelson to be all that metal in the first place?

Last of all, how is Avril covering Metallica less metal than Snoop? Pop is no further from metal than rap ... they should have done the entire Icon show if they wanted to reference that as a non-metal moment.

Rap is very much so closer to metal than pop is. For one thing, artists of metal and rap tend to come from similar upbringings originally (for example, Sabbath came from an industrial town with many broken families, and the majority of the band was pretty poor when they first started jamming; early rap acts came from the ghetto's of the inner-city, where a hard life is expected), both gain huge amounts of unfair controversy (the Religious Right blaming Ozzy Osbourne for teen suicides after releasing "Suicide Solution," a song about Ozzy's alcoholism; media blaming the rise in gangs and urban violence on rap music, when rap music was finally telling people how life actually was for them), and neither rappers nor metal musicians are actually admired for their respective talents (the often amazing speeds that metal musicians play at, and blistering technicality of the music; the awkward rhymes and flow of rap vocals, while also making sure the sampling of beats and their own creations sound good with the rhythm of the vocals).

Pop? Most of the time, it's music played by musicians that just want to make a few bucks, and only comes under the fire of mothers that don't want their children dressing like Britney Spears does.

Was "Du Hast" on the list?

Don't tell me that was metal. The ending was a cell phone ringtone sample.

I don't think so but Final Countdown was on the list. Rammstein was more metal than what Europe was.

(the Religious Right blaming Ozzy Osbourne for teen suicides after releasing "Suicide Solution," a song about Ozzy's alcoholism;

I could have sworn that "Suicide Solution" was actually written about Bon Scott.

Well, I know it's about alcoholism and how continuous heavy drinking leads to your downfall.
