CronoT's Blitz Day/Weekend Survival Guide.

Recommended Posts

Guest CronoT

I thought that, as a public service, I would try to give you all, my fellow board posters, some tips on how to get through the busiest shopping day and weekend of the year.

Tip #1: Unless absolutely necessary, leave your kids at home. Small children should especially be left at home, because they are the most likely to get and cause injuries.

Tip #2: Bring some reading material or something else to keep you diverted. Don't kid yourself, thinking you'll only need the newspaper. You should bring a novel, at least 300-400 pages. You could also bring a portable gaming system or similar plaything, but be aware that this will be a potential target for thieves.

Tip #3: Remain patient and calm. If you can't find a parking space right away, don't get upset or angry. If you live a long way from the mall or the place where you're going to be shopping, you might want to consider car pooling with family and friends; preferably with the one who has the largest vehicle. Whether you're shopping, or in line at the registers, try not to get angry. Don't push or shove, or curse at people.

Tip #4: Don't do anything to get yourself hurt. Getting a "$25 DVD Player" isn't worth braking an arm or a leg, or injuring yourself some other way. Don't fight over shopping carts; if you have to wait to get one, just wait, or leave and come back later. Above all else, don't get into a fight over a parking space, or an item.

Tip #5: Plan out your day and/or weekend shopping trips. Make sure you know ahead of time what you want to buy, where you want to go, and what time you want to start your shopping day, and what time you want to end your shopping day. Also, don't go immediately from one store to another. Give yourself some time between stores; more time if you're angry or upset because you had trouble at the last store.

Tip #6: Don't make yourself go hungry. If you start to get hungry, eat breakfast/lunch, and then go back to shopping. You should also buy a small bag of chocolates, like the Hershey's Mini-bars bag. Eating chocolate releases endorphins into your body that relax and calm you down.

Tip #7: If you can't find everything you're looking for, don't sweat it. You have almost a month to go back and get it. You can also try buying it online, and having it rush ordered, if you need to.

I hope this helps everyone to shop safely and responsibly this next coming weekend.

Arm yourself with a baseball bat and can of mace and all you want will be yours.

Funny, but not exactly the frame of mind I was trying to inspire.

Such insight.

What is this doing in CE, by the way?

Here's another tip -- go to all the early-special sales and stuff. The lines won't be as bad...

I thought this should go in CE, since it is current, as in this week. Also, the biggest shopping day of the year is certainly an event, by economic standards.

But, KKK, you shouldn't plan to go to just the earliest sales. Those are the ones where the most fights and injuries break out. So, if you want to go that early, take your patience with you.

Well, you're WRONG!!!

Anyway, you're right about the psychos arriving early, but I'm basing my opinion on the fact there will probably be less of them at 6 a.m. than at noon. Plus, there won't be as much fatigue, which could make some shoppers grumpy by afternoon...

We sell that brand of cotton candy at the theater I work at.

The shit is terrible.

And fuck Christmas. I won't have anything to do with that travesty of a "holiday." I'd rather keep my money and get nothing from others then spend it all at Evil-Empiremart, and recieve shit I DON'T NEED.

One more piece of advice. If you have a cousin, a neice/nephew, or a grandson/daughter that works at a movie theater, and you buy them one of those cans of assorted popcorns, they WILL attempt to kill you. You have no clue how much I/we HATE popcorn.

Is off-topic flamebaiting really neccesary? It isn't helping the topic.

And like I said, I don't want anyone giving me anything for Christmas, not even multiple fecal matter (s).

Well, I don't have an anti-commercialistic view of Christmas, so anyone that feels the sudden urge to give me an expensive present, then by all means I won't object.

You just... "take"? Or is the word you failed to add something far more sinister?

Hey kids, complete this sentence!

"I just __________________ what I want from the cripples, war widows and the mentally challenged."

It can be more then one word, but try to keep it from being too corny folks.

I gotta side with BX on this one, Mike.

You're right about the popcorn thing. Microwave popcorn was one of my downfalls, but when I worked at the theater I go sooooo f'n sick of it.

And how much is that fluff going for nowadays? $10 per bucket?...

Not a bad idea Crono. I'll have to think about how/when I buy this for my wife:

I just hope everyone stays safe this coming weekend; even you, Mike. I may disagree with you a lot, but I wouldn't wish death or injury on you. Good luck to you all.

I'm going to get trashed and laugh at all the suckers working retail, and the even bigger suckers with families doing the shopping. I'm not going to buy anything, I'm just going to wear a bulky coat and walk REAL slow.

Ugh... Black Friday...

Always seems like a good day to saty in and watch a movie to me, but somehow I always end up at Best Buy or at the mall. And it hurts me.

I worked restaurant and retail for 6 years all total and I still gie thanks every Thanksgiving that I don't have to work the next morning.

Even better: Clean yourself up, wear some decent clothes, and just walk around a store like you work there all calm and professional. When people ask you if you work there, say yes and steer them in the wrong direction whenever they ask you a question about something...

Is the Radio Shack in a mall or in some crappy complex?

And I went to Best Buy today for some DVD's (Never thought in a million years I'd be buying a fucking GOLDEN GIRLS SEASON 1 DVD), and the poor kid at the register was in his second day. He was shaking the whole time and screwed up my coupon. He's going to get eaten alive on Friday...
