Nighthawk Posted January 7, 2005 Author Report Posted January 7, 2005 Stranger than that is I sometimes confuse Tom Petty with Rod Stewart.
Henry Spencer Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 When I was younger, I would get The Clash, The Cure, and The Cult mixed up.
Nevermortal Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Someone tell me the big deal about the Arcade Fire, and compare them to another band so I can judge them.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 hmm. I can't comment, but I've not really heard anyone rave about Science before, so I'll pick it up. Won't be as good as SPARKS THOUGH YOU FUCKER I'm in the minority on liking Before and After Science the most, I guess; Another Green World is the most lauded, but it leaves me a little cold (though I still like it).
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Soaring epic indie rock, for better and for worse. From what I know of your tastes, you'll probably hate them, but you can listen to one of the tracks I linked if you want to check. They download quickly.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 The steel drums on the Talking Heads cover is so, so lame.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Yeah, I don't know what they were up to with that. Maybe I'll give them a letter expressing displeasure with that when I see them in a few weeks.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 I only listened to about a minute of that track, mainly due to the audience noise being greater than the band noise. Â Are the rest of the tracks like that?
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Not as bad. The best mixed one seems to be "Neighborhood #3/Rebellion (Lies)." They also sound much clearer through headphones.
Nighthawk Posted January 7, 2005 Author Report Posted January 7, 2005 You know, despite the backlash, Cash Money was good, just way overkill. Their problem was putting out way the hell too much stuff, but the best of it... top notch, and not just Juvenile either. Â Incidentally, Turk put out a new album last year and it was pretty good.
Guest Van Mundegaarde Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 i didn't want to dedicate an entire thread to this, but: Â BWA HAHAHAHAHAHA~!!
King Kamala Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 When I was younger, I would get The Clash, The Cure, and The Cult mixed up. Same here, my dad is/was a big fan of the Cult and whenever he talked about them, I was like why does my dad like the weird Goth guys with the makeup.
Guest Van Mundegaarde Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I think '69 Love Songs' by The Magnetic Fields might be my favorite album of the 90's. Sure it's sprawling and not completely consistent. But even at it's worst it's charming and manages to make me smile throughout it's entirety. An enviable acheivement no matter how you look at it.
Henry Spencer Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I have two copies of the following album: Â Â One is rather horribly scratched, and skips frequently. The other is in perfect condition. I much prefer listening to the skipping version, and find myself enthralled until the end, whereas when I listen to the untarnished copy, I'm bored halfway through.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I almost bought that today. Instead, I got Duran Duran's Greatest.
Henry Spencer Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 You did good. Duran Duran are far superior to Broken Social Scene.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I just don't know how I didn't have it yet. Jeez, way to be a failure, me.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 You did good. Duran Duran are far superior to Broken Social Scene. This is wrong. Â Duran Duran have, at best, a couple of good singles. Everything else they've done is tolerable to outright awful.
Henry Spencer Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Duran Duran's first three albums are all amoung the top ten synth pop albums ever made, in my opinion. They did drop off in an epic fashion afterwards, though.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 So I already loved Pink Flag and assumed Chairs Missing and 154 would be good, but...yikes. How about that Wire. I'll be lucky if I make as good a purchase as these albums for the rest of the year. Â Also, I drove around listening to Duran Duran this afternoon and felt like one bad dude. No-no-no-notorious!
Red Baron Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 It's been a first time since summer that I listened to Shinedown's 45. Â I like it more now, than then.
PLAGIARISM! Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 So I already loved Pink Flag and assumed Chairs Missing and 154 would be good, but...yikes. How about that Wire. I'll be lucky if I make as good a purchase as these albums for the rest of the year. Also, I drove around listening to Duran Duran this afternoon and felt like one bad dude. No-no-no-notorious! I know, I first heard about them on some other board and they're just one of the best bands ever. It's not quite as good but you might like the more industrial newer stuff like Send as well.
Hank Kingsley Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Apparently Good Morning, Captain was used in the movie Kids. Has anyone seen that? How's the song used?
The Ill One Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 How come I have "Roses" by OutKast stuck in my head when I'm not a fan of them nor have heard the song in ages? Damn that song is catchy.
Murmuring Beast Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Nice snare drum flams on that song.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Apparently Good Morning, Captain was used in the movie Kids. Has anyone seen that? How's the song used? I don't remember how it's used, but that movie is a didactic, cringe-inducing embarassment of cinema. Â And song titles go in " ", not italics.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I said "cinema." Time for suicide.
