Alexander - Well, it's apparently a pile of shit.

Recommended Posts

Saw the Movie last night, One of the worst fuckin movies I've ever seen.

Keep in mind I had no desire to see this movie in the first place, My friend wanted to see it for some reason and dragged me along, ugh!. The movie was way to fuckin long, way to many talking, unnnessasary shitty Gay love scenes, Generic Ainchent Boring Battle Scenes, Colin Farrel's horrible acting. Me and my friend actually walked out of the movie a little after the 2nd battle scene, we just got to damn bored with it.

Shit Movie.

For all the problems that Alexander had, I really think it was actually pretty decent. Overlong, yes, overstated, yes, kinda flat, yes, but bad? No, because it was at least marginally entertaining throughout, IMO of course.

And Colin Farrell, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, was fucking awesome, especially in the climactic scene with the elephants. As a matter of fact, that entire scene was fucking awesome, as was Val Kilmer, as was Angelina the Great.

I don't understand why everyone is shitting on this flick. Much worse movies came out this year...like Ray, for example, or Collateral. I'm serious about that, by the way.

If you notice, most of the people on here shitting on it haven't even seen it...same with National Treasure. This is a disturbing trend around here. The people that have seen Alexander in this thread have been saying it wasn't as bad as others are saying.

EDIT: Except for the guy who posted above me.

I haven't payed much attention, but how many films has Jolie actually showed her titties off in? All I can think of is Gia but then again I don't watch too many of her flicks...

I think the deciding factor for whether a big historical epic will be popular is whom it focuses on, the big guy or the little guy? Everyone wants to root for the underdog.

Ben Hur - Yes

Ghenghis Khan - No

Cleopatra - No

Braveheart - Yes

Gladiator - Yes

Master & Commander - Yes

Troy - Middling, and look it focused on everyone.

Alexander - No

Now, some of these movies that I labelled as successful I don't personally like (Gladiator is VASTLY overrated, as are most epics, IMHO), and some movies based on rulers are GOOD (see Elizabeth.) but for a movie to be accepted by the masses, it can't focus on a ruler on conquerer. Unless he's an American Prez, perhaps.

I have no interest in those Anchant, Epic type movies like Samerui,Gladiator,Braveheart,King Aurthor, Alexander, Troy, Master and Comander etc.. no matter how good they are. I just find them pretty boring and uninteresting. and half the time, don't understand what the fuck they're talking about sometimes.

Alexander pretty much sealed my hatred for these epic movies.

From what I can remember:

Gia

Foxfire

Mojave Moon

Pushing Tin

Original Sin

Taking Lives

And count me out of seeing Alexander. Not a huge history buff or Oliver Stone fan, and in general I stay away from Hollywood big-budget studio films. I shall invest my money in the "rent 3 films for $10" deal at my local video rental place.

I highly recommend renting a movie instead. Admittedly, I saw this on a really terrible date, so my mood was kind of soured a bit already and that's certainly not a good prelude to sitting down and watching a movie. But either way, I tried to use the movie as a distraction, and I found it really boring. There were a great deal many things that Alexander did wrong that another recent movie around the same time period, Troy, did right. I have to agree with the consensus that the movie jumped around far too much for my liking, without any regard for keeping the viewer interested or not. It was lack of chronological order for the sake of having no chronological order. At least in Tarantino movies it makes sense, but this movie leaves you completely dumbfounded and uninterested.

I felt the acting was alright. Rosario's boobs were a nice plus. I was pleasantly surprised by that. The worst part about the whole narrator bit rambling on from Alexandria, Egypt was how he basically revealed everything Alexander accomplished within the first 10 minutes of the film. This is done, so the viewer can isolate the thought and wonder of what Alexander accomplishes so they can focus on Alexander's personal life.. obviously, and I felt it was ridiculously emphasized, the homosexuality aspect, and the backstabbing and polticking with his family. It's as if Stone is trying to create this Oedipedian/Hamlet-type atmosphere to the movie, and miserably fails. It was almost like watching an episode of Clone High (that failed cartoon series on MTV), where they take a historical character and just make up a story involving him while working in what he accomplished throughout the movie. That alone made me even more uninterested as I was more interested in seeing an epic reenactment of Alexander and his conquests rather than the complexities of his personal life which cannot be fully confirmed since what we know of that time period are bits and pieces.

I didn't see the last 40 minutes of it or so, because the girl had been complaining about how bad the movie was and was really bored, so I said, "OK fine let's get the fuck out of here then" and took her home. Terrible terrible night, extremely mediocre movie.

I personally give it a C or a D... depending on what size Rosario's boobs are.

Every time I see a comercial for this film I just can't help but comment on how BAD the acting looks. And from such good actors as well.

I have no desire to see this movie, though I might watch it if it comes out on cable in teh future.

Of course, not all epics are bad, but I guess some people simply don't like them.

I didn't see either of those flicks, but I only heard good things about them.

Your the first person to actually not like them, from what I've read.

I bitched about Collateral in the Collateral thread on this very board...cannot remember if I bitched about Ray in the Ray thread or not.

But as for Ray...the only good thing about it was Jamie Foxx's acting, which even I have to admit was top notch. I just do not understand why so many people liked Ray, though. Ray Charles, at least in the movie, was not a good guy; I tried hard to root for him, but the film just wouldn't let me. He was a womanizing, drug-abusing asshole. Beyond that, the script was total shit, with oftentimes unrelated events leading directly into one another, and it was an absolute eyesore to boot, much like Collateral. I really just could not get into it on any level, really.

The acting is really solid, for the most part, though some of the dialogue tries a little too hard to be "epic," if you know what I mean. Like I've said already, Colin Farrell, Val Kilmer, and the Angelina were all pretty dern good, though. I was really, really shocked by Farrell, as I went into the movie expecting him to kill it dead within 45 minutes.

I think there are just too many things working against this flick...I know a lot of people are sick of epics, for one, so that has got to be part of it. Add Colin Farrell, a dude that seemingly everyone likes to bash, and the homosexual aspects, and Oliver Stone...I'm beginning to understand why this flick is destined to be hated no matter what.

I think we have a better ratio of good modern war epics to bad than historical epics, is because we have numoerous RECORDED histories from those who were there! The more realistic and true to life it is, the better. It keeps writers from going of on ridiculous romantic flights of fancy as they are wont to do even in pretty good historical epics such as Braveheart.

Didn't she have some brief nippage in Hackers? It may just be my memory playing tricks on me though.

With the long hair, whenever Colin emotes he resembles Russel Crowe. Has anyone else noticed this during quick clips?

I thought more of a young Mel Gibson.... Anyways I saw this movie on Saturday and I found it decent. I like history stuff so thats why I was intrested in seeing it. The reason I found it decent was because I could sit through it and not want to get up. The fight scenes were really nice, a lot of gore in them and a lot of fighting. Jolie was good, along with Kelimer. For those who are saying the war scenes are bad...why? What was so bad about the two? They were these two intense war scene that were ment to be intense. As far as the homosexuality goes...that stuff happen back then, so why it shouldn't be in the film if it was apart of the history, I don't see why not. The acting besides Jolie and Val were bland altogether. I didn't really pay attention to all the dialoge because I was to busy looking at the sets and backrounds were just amazing to see. If your someone who isn't into history then I don't recommand this movie till it comes out to rent, but honestly this movie isn't that bad as some of you are making it sound.
