The Czech Republic Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Just a question I'm throwing out, as artificial stuff was everywhere, then replaced by grass, and now it's creeping back as FieldTurf.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 FieldTurf, since it has the advantages of astroturf while failing to be cement.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Natural grass. I don't know about fieldturf since I haven't really heard about how hard it is on knees yet.
Guest Rrrsh Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I like Grass the because it eats up the elements the most and I like that aspect of Football.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Well, watch the Steelers play at Heinz Field a few times and you'll have an aversion to grass
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Well, watch the Steelers play at Heinz Field a few times and you'll have an aversion to grass That just makes me want to vomit.
The Czech Republic Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 I don't like the way FieldTurf looks
Guest Vitamin X Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Football wasn't meant to be played anywhere other than on grass. Fuck these guys who play on carpet. Not many championship teams who play on turf go out and dominate on any other surface.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Which is FieldTurf's advantage. It prevents a situation like that at Hines Field, where the field is ridiculously torn up, but it isn't carpet. (haha, i'm leaving that "Hines" typo because HINES WARD ROCKS YEAHHHHHHHHHH )
GreatWhiteNope Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 AstroPlay - Bills have it and it rocks
The Czech Republic Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 I thought the Steelers still played on grass.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 They do. It's shit.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Nothing can be worse than what the Eagles field used to be.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Agreed, but it's still annoying to see players slipping so damned much.
nogoodnick Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Field Turf aint bad but its all about natural grass. Fuck astro tuf.
CanadianChris Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Whatever that blue turf in Boise is made out of.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I put down grass because of the hippie in me, but FieldTurf is fine with me, too. It ought to be a crime to play football on AstroTurf...
Slayer Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Whatever that blue turf in Boise is made out of. AstroSmurf
lomasmoney Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Field Turf is the best surface, that I have played on and I have played on all three. Astroturf is like falling on fucking cement espeically at the Silverdome, and then grass fields especially multipurpose fields at the high school level get so destroyed by the end of the football season that they are almost unplayable. Fieldturf is about as close to grass as you can get and it doesnt get worn down as much as grass does.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Not whatever the Patriots play on.
Red Baron Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Natural Grass. Anything else, go play a different sport, wuss.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I just did an **11 PAGE REPORT** on Astro/Field/NeXt Turf... I like the BLUE playing turf that that college team has...Western Kentucky maybe?
therealworldschampion Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Boise State has the blue turf
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Churned up mud with clumps of bloody sod.
MARTYEWR Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Where's the snow option in this poll?
Guest Nanks Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I encountered this issue recently when doing an Aussie Rules Football in Canada assignment. I don't know how they play NFL/CFL or anything for that matter on AstroTurf. One of the major facets of the game is hitting the deck. I'm stunned there aren't more serious, season-ending injuries playing on such a solid, unforgiving surface as AstroTurf. There are complaints about how many ACL injuries are suffered on very hard natural grass fields here. AstroTurf is for field hockey and maybe lacrosse. Nothing more.
MARTYEWR Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I don't know how they play NFL/CFL or anything for that matter on AstroTurf. AstroTurf is dying a quick death in the CFL. Only B.C. (dome stadium), Calgary (outdoor), and Saskatchewan (outdoor) have AstroTurf, IIRC. Before, 8 of the 9 teams had AstroTurf, with Edmonton being (and remaining) the lone team to have grass. Ottawa, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Montreal (I think), and Toronto have gone to FieldTurf, with Toronto of course being the lone indoor stadium of the bunch.
Kaertos Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 My heart says grass, but knowing what my grass looks like in the late fall / early winter, I know why teams are going with FieldTurf. Nice stuff.
treble Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I like the way the astroturf looks in places like Indy and St. Louis, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to play on it. FieldTurf is probably the best of both worlds, especially when you can't tell by looking at it that it's not the real stuff.
Guest bigm350 Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 What exactly is Fieldturf made out of? Rubbery grass and fake dirt?
