I just realized something.

Recommended Posts

I don't know for sure, but I'm not surprised that it's gone. It had its audience, surely, and I was somewhat entertained by it myself, but your average sports fan is going to shit all over it due to the high levels of gimmickry involved- which was ironically the league's main selling point.

But you know what- fuck that. If "Extreme Dodgeball" and motherfucking POKER (I know it's a very popular competitive game, but if poker qualifies as a sport, I'd like to turn pro at Mouse Trap) can be plastered all over legitimate sports television stations, Slamball should still be around.

I'm surprised severe injuries never happened during SlamBall.

On a sidenote, I have no qualms about recognizing Dodgeball as a sport. Just throwing that out there.

I thought it was "Jamball," but you're probably right. On a related topic: I love how some shows get pimped to death (one that sticks out for me was that John Henson talk show) then just vanish.

But you know what- fuck that. If "Extreme Dodgeball" and motherfucking POKER...

Don't let Dr. Tom read this...

I'm surprised severe injuries never happened during SlamBall.

Actually, there was this one NASTY injury that happened during the Slamball tryouts special they aired in the beginning of the second season. Some guy jumped on a trampoline and while landing, his foot got caught in between this small hole between the trampoline and mat in the middle. As he fell to the side, his viscously broke his ankle and from what I remember, I think his ankle just ripped apart and almost broke his foot off. Although my memory may be a little off, that's how I remember it. It was VERY a gruesome injury.

Anyways, speaking of Slamball, I do wish it comes back. It entertained me, and I liked it. What else does Spike TV have to offer anyways besides VIP and other old shows' re-runs?

I have nothing against poker. However, it is NOT a sport, no matter what ESPN says.

You're right, poker is not a sport.

However, ignoring their own original programming, ESPN has long broadcasted things which are competitive endeavors, but not sports. Examples would be the bloody spelling bee, bass fishing, etc. And considering how popular poker is, it has to be a cash cow for them -- I'm sure the rights to broadcast the WSOP were dirt cheap when ESPN negotiated them originally.
