Anyone else get tired of ESPN blowing the Pats?

Recommended Posts

The thing with Favre is that they will rip him after a bad game, but as soon as he does something halfway decent the next week it becomes a lovefest again and the analysts (who were the ones to bring up the retirement point in the first place) start mocking people who thought he should think about retirement. It is just lazy sportscasting because it gives them a topic every few weeks to talk about. Heaven forbid they actually get deep into games or find decent stories.

exactly, if they rip Bret at all, it is forgotten the very next week if he is even remotely compotent. How ridiculous was it this season with ESPN and " Oh NO,The legacy of Lambeau has been shattered!!!, GASP!" to "The Pack are Back Baby!!1#1#1#1 YEAH!!!, Bret still has it!!!)

I distinctly remember the Monday Night Countdown crew having an orgasm over Tom Brady in a suit. I'm pretty sure ESPN blows the Pats. The only people who don't agree are Patriots fans who feel guilty about it and don't want to be seen as ever having an advantage, so they proct it onto other teams: "blow the PATRIOTS? Heavens no, they blow the RED SOX!" Ditch the modesty: it's one big hummer for New England and you all know it.

Please, ESPN blows Michael Vick so much that his sperm count is down to 7.

They're the defending champions and have won 21 straight games. I'd say they deserve any "blowing" far more than someone like Vick does.

It doesn't matter. Vick's going to live off that playoff win over the Packers for the rest of his career.

It took me 17 weeks but I'm finally convinced that Pittsburgh can win the Super Bowl. The Eagles should make it out of the NFC, but there are four teams in the AFC that deserve to be in the Super Bowl more than Philly (Pittsburgh, New England, Colts, Chargers).

Belichik might get a lot of love from the ESPN guys, but not a lot of the players do.

Like has been mentioned throughout this thread, Favre, Vick, TO, McNabb, Payton, Ray Lewis, and Roethlisberger all get more love from the ESPN guys.

When they name the teams that might win the AFC, it's always the Steelers & Colts, with the Pats mentioned third, if at all. When they name the great QB's, it's Manning, McNabb, Favre, Culpepper, but never Brady. When was the last time that Dillon was mentioned as a great offseason pickup? Never, it's always TO.

Yes, the Pats definitely receive some love from the idiots at ESPN, but not as much as a team on a 28-4 run, that's defending the SB title after winning it twice in 3 years, and set a league record for winning streaks, should.

If blowing vick you mean saying "he isn't near the quarter back that one of the greatest quarterbacks of our generation, Tom Brady, who would deserve the contract vick just got" then you are right.

If anything, Vick gets blown during games(really to an annoying amount. I mean, he steps up in the pocket and throws the ball and they act like he just came back from the dead and beat cancer and THEN threw the ball 4 yards) but besides that, he is always getting bashed by those guys. Tom Brady on the other hand...they love this man. The fact that they just REFUSE to mention that he has been playing with one of the best DEFENSES in our generation, and that up until this year, most of his passing yards were off YAC yards with his receivers doing all the work. They continue to pretend that Tom Brady lifted the Patriots and put them on his back and won 2 superbowls by himself...well him and the coach...thats it. It is so fraking annoying.

So no, I am not tired of ESPN blowing the Pats. i am tired of them blowing Tom Brady and Pats fans pretending it doesn't happen every freaking week.

It's funny that the 500some Patriots fans on TSM just REFUSE to acknowledge that ESPN blows the team, when it's painfully evident to the fans of the other 31 teams. I mean, if they constantly talked up Rex Grossman, I'd be like "hell yeah ESPN loves my quarterback" not "WHAT? They do not! Stop making us look like favorites, you...favorites-looker! In fact, we don't get the credit we OUGHT to for being as awesome as we are, hah."

Like Ripper said about Vick, Brady gets a ton of smoke blown up his ass DURING games (that MNF game vs the Dolphins was even painful for me, and I'm a Pats fan) but the jarheads that work in the studio? They RARELY mention Brady as one of the elite in the NFL.

It's always Favre or Manning first, then the other second, followed by McNabb & Culpepper. This season, Roethlisberger joined the list. But Brady is rarely - if ever - mentioned as one of the elite.

I think the thing about Brady is that even though he has won two SBs there's this vague aura of "I am a lucky motherfucker" about him. He's really never had to do something jaw dropping or make some insane comeback that would make people stand up and say "This guy rules." Against the Rams in the SB what did he do besides huff and puff his way just enough for a FG at the end of the game? Or last year against the Panthers, he goes just far enough for another FG after John Kasay KICKED THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS. I've yet to see Brady truly do that defining drive when his team is down 4 and needs the TD to win. Most of his wins are these unimpressive 14-10 type wins over the Browns or Texans.

Tom Brady is the prototypical quarter back with a INCREDIBLE defense.

JUST DON'T FUCK UP.

He is a GOOD quarterback that throws short, accurate passes so that they can move the ball, and let the defense give him good field position. this year, with Cory Dillon keeping people in the box, he has gone down field more. But basically he runs a "don't fuck up" offense and lets the D carry him.

And he is the most celebrated member of the team.

Because he's probably the most consistent QB in the league right now. I remember MNF putting up a graphic a few weeks ago showing that his QB rating hovers around 90 no matter what kind of pass he throws, short or deep.

And that "Don't fuck up" offense was 4 points shy of the franchise record, with Brady 6th in the league with 28 TD passes, 4th in the league in points per game, and their margin of victory is something like 14 points.

Excellent point. The New England Patriots don't exactly captivate a man's heart, do they. There are never any last-minute touchdown drives where they snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and there are never any blowouts where the offense is so dazzling that Brady is benched by the 4th. Even the two damn Super Bowls were won on field goals.

They just trudge through their schedule and score more points than the other team and it's not entertaining to watch. "BUT THAT'S FOOTBALL!" No it's boring. "Well it's not that they CAN'T, it's just that My Lord And Savior Bill Belichick doesn't let the team play to its full potential so as to hide their weaknesses." Well by the Super Bowl, you shouldn't have to worry about being figured out...you sure aren't dominating then. When will they prove it then if they're just "hiding" it?

Pittsburgh had some close calls this year. The Colts have been a blast to watch. I hope either one gets to the Super Bowl before the Patriots.

Evidently blowing shitty teams out of the water and losing to good teams is more important than winning SBs to Czech.

Well as a Pats fan all I care about is them winning. I don't care if they go out of their way to humiliate a team or just run the clock out as long as they win. That's what matters to me. If you aren't entertained then you have that ALF DVD set you can watch(you lucky bastard).

The Colts will not go past the AFC title game. They will have to face two straight VERY VERY good teams... first New England then Pittsburgh. One of the two will figure how to clamp the "great" Peyton Manning down to only 100 yards passing or something.

I can't since I don't remember that episode of Alf.

No it wasn't ALF it was Stuart Scott and some other Monday Night Countdown people wetting their pants over Tom Brady walking into the stadium in a suit.

Peyton Manning gets quotation marks around great? YOWCH

You care what Stuart Scott, Irvin, Jaws, and Jones say or think? They're all idiots and in Stuart Scott's case he hasn't even grasped full use of the English language.

remember, Tom Jackon was the one with the beautiful sound byte after the Pats week 1 loss in Buffalo last season.

"This is a team that hates their coach."

They love Tom Brady because he is a handsome man. People are superficial. If Trent Dilfer played like Brady, they wouldn't care. They love Brady because he has the look.

Now someone else that the media loves; Brian Urlacher.

What? I have heard NOTHING about Urlacher. Sure, in their 2001 run, but not now.
