Young and Marino are automatic. Irvin is interesting, in that his off-field activities may hurt him, but I imagine he'll get in as well. Thomas should be in.

I'm surprised that Dent and Monk have been on the ballot as long as they have. I would have thought at least Monk would get in in his first or second year of eligibility.

Dan Marino and Steve Young should be first ballot. Michael Irvin might be too, but to me he hardly compares to Young/Marino. Art Monk deserves to be in as well.

This year's class might be even better than last years. I thought Sanders/Elway was a damn good year.

This is pretty easy.

Dan Marino

Michael Irvin

Art Monk

Steve Young

Richard Dent

and a random lineman whose career I wouldn't know the slightest about.

Is there a limit on how many can be elected in a year? Because this group looks pretty stacked.

I believe it is 5, but only 4 got in last year: Bob Brown, John Elway, Carl Eller and Barry Sanders.

Marino and Young will get in, but other than that I have no idea.

Irvin might but since he was a Cowboy, I could give two shits.

And how is it that Monk isn't in yet?

Because his career revolved around longevity and not a dominant stretch of time. He only was in the top 10 in receptions 4 times, top 10 in rec. yards 3 times, and top 10 in rec. TDs once.

So while I can certainly see those who want to vote for him based on career numbers, I do see the arguement for those who vote for the more dominant players not wanting Monk in.

Why can't the Baseball HoF adopt this philosophy a bit more? Then we'd have Jim Rice in the Hall, and not Don Sutton.

*takes out C.C. and regains control of thread.*

The biggest problem Monk faces is he's considered a possession receiver.

Who I think will make it

Steve Young

Dan Marino

Micheal Irvin

Russ Grimm

Harry Carson

Benny Friedman (veterans)

This is the same argument I use against Marcus Allen.

Allen:

1 rushing title

Exactly 4 top ten rushing finishes ('82-4th, '84-10th, '85-1st, '87-10th)

Only 5 top ten 'total yards from scrimmage finishes' ('82-1st, '83-9th, '84-4th, '85-1st, '87-6th)

Playing a long time doesn't make you a great player, but if you put that overrated Marcus Allen in, you have to let Art Monk in.

Young, Marino, Irvin, Monk. I don't know enough about most of the other players.

Young and Marino are no brainers, Monk should have been in before, and as much as I hate the Cowboys Irvin should be in too.

Aren't Young and Irvin BOTH on the same Sunday Countdown show? That's interesting.

Yeah...

Young

Marino

Irvin

Monk

and one of the oldies from the vets

Marcus Allen also finished in the top 10 in rushing TDs 9 times and is still number 2 in that category. Combine that with a Super Bowl MVP in one of the great big game performances in league history and that is why he is in the HOF.

And the "Player X is mediocre but in the HOF, so Player Y who is just as mediocre should be in" arguement is just silly.

Wow, lot of pretty good players to choose from.

Steve Young

Dan Marino

Michael Irvin

Richard Dent

Derrick Thomas

Benny Friedman would be a nice choice, he was really the first player to put up huge passing numbers...for years he held the TD pass record.

And I'm leaving out Monk and L.C. Greenwood, who both should be in already.

The heck? Sutton is much better than Rice.

LC Greenwood and his GOLD SHOES OF DOOM~! should have been in the Hall years ago but he probably won't get in at all because there's already people who grumble that there's too many 70s Steelers in the Hall. I say fuck those people, the Steelers of the 70s had arguably the greatest collection of talent in football history and every one of them deserve to be inducted.

If I'm right and Greenwood gets jobbed again, I'd vote for the following:

Marino

Irvin

Grimm

Dent

Monk

Token old timer that seems to make the list every year that no one under 80 remembers.

Personally I don't think Steve Young is HOF-worthy, he just happened to be lucky enough to be in SF when Joe Montana moved on. He inherited a pretty stacked team, so it wasn't like he was winning games on his own.

When are the inductees announced? I'm actually somewhat interested in this year's class.

I think the NFL has already said they won't waive that rule. They haven't done it up to now for anyone else.

yeah but how often has someone so important to the game died a year before he's eligible for induction?
