Guest sek69 Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Apparently Dale Gagne decided to reopen the AWA in 1996, and they seem to be carving out a niche in the old AWA stomping grounds. I heard that the Gagnes wanted to revive the AWA name, nice to see they managed to get something going. Hell they're probably doing better business now than the last couple years of the old AWA. http://www.awastars.com
Nevermortal Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 ZERO-ONE MAX is also recognizing the AWA titles.
TheBigSwigg Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Actually, according to the AWA website ZERO-ONE MAX is an AWA affiliate.
JST Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I've seen worse lineups. But they got Joe Millionaire!
Matt Young Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Heh, I saw the news from the main page on Inside Pulse the other day. I was greatly amused by the fact that they considered their title "prestigious" when it had been given to Evan Karagias of all people. It's also hilarious, but nice as far as (really old) continuity goes, that Zbysko is still laying claim to it.
Dobbs 3K Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Yeah, I knew they were around. They seem to have an NWA-style affiliation of indys going right now. I've never seen them running any shows around here though (I'm in Southern Wisconsin). They're just another indy at this point, but it is nice to see a promotion with some heritage running in the US again (not discounting WWE and NWA).
1234-5678 Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Yeah they really did wonders for the crediblity of the AWA name when they claimed to have the ability to book a Hogan vs. Austin match.
Nevermortal Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Actually, according to the AWA website ZERO-ONE MAX is an AWA affiliate. What the fuck did I just say.
JHawk Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Actually, according to the AWA website ZERO-ONE MAX is an AWA affiliate. What the fuck did I just say. You said they were recognizing the titles. he said they're an affilliate. Technically two different things though they're both accurate.
Slickster Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Yeah they really did wonders for the crediblity of the AWA name when they claimed to have the ability to book a Hogan vs. Austin match. In theory, they could if someone had the $$$. It wouldn't matter to the parties involved what wrestling company it was for.
Dobbs 3K Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 LOL...Aries is the ROH Champion now, isn't he? Whatever happened to Horace Hogan though? I always thought he was a decent worker for a big guy.
Slickster Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Takao Omori is the new AWA World Heavyweight Champion, beating Steve Corino in a tournament final at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo last night.
Dobbs 3K Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Why not have the tournament in the US though...it is the _American_ Wrestling Association, after all.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Why not have the tournament in the US though...it is the _American_ Wrestling Association, after all. Because the AWA name couldn't draw flies in America. If it could, they'd have done shows already.
