Guest The Ohtani of Time Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I know this forum is mostly for video games and toys, but I was curious as to wheather or not people still play board games, and if you do, which ones do you play? I play scrabble from time to time with my girlfriend, we also play Skip-Bo, crib and Magic the Gathering now and then.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 That reminds me...about three years ago while I was still in college, a friend of mine had this game...it was a board game, but it was made to simulate playing a first person shooter on a PC! You would move your character around the board and shoot at other players, and dice rolls determined the outcomes. It was _really_ fun. Anyone know what this game is? Thanks. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Nevermind...I found it through Google. The game is called "Frag" from Steve Jackson Games.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I play some hippie LOTR Trival Pursuit DVD-Rom game at the request of the better half. Otherwise I play on-line backgammon from time to time -- does that count?...

teke184 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I still play board games every now and then... the new themed editions of games like Justice League Monopoly and Star Wars Stratego help bring new fun to the games, too. Traditional games: Monopoly (Star Wars or Justice League version) Clue (Simpsons, complete with Smithers as Ms. White) Stratego (Star Wars) Life (Star Wars) Trivial Pursuit (regular, Saturday Night Live, Star Wars) Computerized versions: Axis and Allies Trivial Pursuit More obscure (typically by Steve Jackson Games): Illuminati Deluxe Chez Greek Frag! I'm still trying to pick up Car Wars Deluxe and Hacker! Deluxe, but haven't found them locally.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 The gal and I play board games all the time. We tend towards Scrabble (and now Super Scrabble). Otherwise, we'll play Monopoly, Upwards, and Uno. We got Scene It for Christmas as well, which is surprisingly fun.
Mik 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Trivial Pursuit 90's edition lately. Also, I highly recommend the electronic version of UNO. Instead of drawing, you have to hit the button a certain number of times. Sometimes nothing happens and other times it shoots about 15 cards at you. Highly entertaining in a drunken crowd. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I know it's not a board game, but does anyone here play Phase 10? That is actually a pretty fun and competive game when you have about 4 or 5 people playing together... also, anyone else remember a game called Thunder Road, came out in the late 80s...it was a Mad Max type game where you had cars and helicoptors and the board was a 3 piece road set that never ended, it just went on and on until you destroyed your opponents vehicles... starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Played Cranium on Christmas. A tradition of sorts. Cranium is a fun game, but my friends tend to "friendly wagering" games such as MJ, Big 2 and poker. Although there are some arguments as to exactly how to play Big 2, but that's probably another thread.

The cousins brought it to Christmas Eve dinner, and depsite looking stupid and over complicated, it is actually fun and easy to pick up.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The only board game any of my friends have much interest in is Monopoly, but we rarely play. I usually play Scrabble with my mom whenever I visit. I think my winning streak against her is currently at 13 games. On the rare occassions we can get my old man out of his recliner, we'll play Monopoly. I like to think of myself as a pretty good Monopoly player, but he just destroys everybody at that game. His most impressive win was when we had him down to literally $2 and six properties before he stormed back and pulled off the win when I landed on his hoteled Park Place. Alro 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I've got Simpsons Clue, but I've not played it in over a year. Other than that, I'll play any version of Trivial Pursuit, with standard version and Pop Culture DVD being my favorites.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted January 17, 2005 My friends and I used to play Clue but no one will play anymore because I win 9 out of 10 times when we do.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 I know it's not a board game, but does anyone here play Phase 10? That is actually a pretty fun and competive game when you have about 4 or 5 people playing together... Phase 10's all right, but the phases aren't really ordered correctly. Once you get past phase 8 (which, IIRC, is the seven card straight), you're pretty much home free. My wife and I play Scrabble, Uno Attack, Monopoly, and Clue (the last two when there's more people around). We got the 90's Trivial Pursuit for Christmas, which is kinda neat. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 what sticks you are when you have to do the runs of 7, 8 and 9...if you don't luck out and get Wild cards, all you can do is sit and watch as everyone else catches up to you...
Guest Cerebus Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I'm something of a boardgame fanatic but play several obscures ones that you may not have heard of. One is Settlers of Catan which I consider one of the best boardgames ever, equal to or even better than Monopoly. It is also good because you can add expansions too it to make it more interesting or you can stick with the original.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 My wife and I play Careers on a regular basis. Fantastic game...very underrated. We also got Peanuts Monopoly for Christmas, so we play that from time to time as well. And I'll usually beat my mom once or twice at Scrabble when I visit. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I thought about getting Settlers of Catan. I play Monopoly (either NFL or Lord of the Rings Trilogy usually, I also have Star Wars Trilogy), Clue, Life, Risk & Scotland Yard all the time. Scotland Yard is my favourite, you can get some pretty tense moments in that game. I try to play Diplomacy when I can, but it is hard getting enough people who want to play it at once. It doesn't work without at least 6 (no Italy), preferably 7.
