This week in the NBA

To those of you in the Chicago area, what do you think it will cost to keep Chandler and Curry? The Bulls say they want to keep them, but neither deseves a huge contract, and no doubt Curry will look for close to the max despite being horribly inconsistent until now.

They need to keep some room to resign Hinrich in a couple years, and if anyone on that team deserves big money it's him.

Figures, Portland lose 10 out of 11 games, including falling as far as losing to the damn Hornets, and then go out and beat the best team in the league by 8. Of course naturally they'll follow it up by losing by 20 to Atlanta or something.

And they look to have a center that actually does something besides block for the first time this century, Joel Przybilla suddenly becoming a beast as he puts up 52 points and 54 rebounds in his last 4 games, from a guy that averaged 2.3 points and 4.1 rebounds a game until now.

Looking at the Portland-SA recap, I found this amusing:

DNP - Dental Pain

in regards to SG Derek Anderson. "Coach I can't play, I got a toothache"

What a pussy.

The funny thing is that they coulda resigned Chandler at a VERY reasonable amount and had him locked in, but instead they didn't now he is gonna cost them if they make the playoffs. Curry, he was asking for too much anyway, so this ain't gonna make it better. I think they are going to lose one, and if I had to choose, I would keep Chandler. He takes critisism better and seems like he really works hard to better himself. Curry is one buffet away from being Oliver Miller 2.

Hey Ripper, how about them Wizards?

I could of sworn I said during pre-season that they were legit this year.

I stand corrected. I didn't expect the team to defer to Jamison like they should have and now that they have they are winning. Good for them, seeing as I like Larry Hughes. That makes us 1-1 in our "predicting the Wizards success" battle.

Yeah but your wrong one standpoint, Jamison hasn't been good at all since November, he's been a roleplayer. He's been the 3rd best player on the Wiz this year behind Arenas and Hughes.

Truth be told, it is Gilbert Arenas who has taken charge of the team averaging 26ppg this month while the team has gone 10-2. He's the go to guy, the #1 option, and he's winning games for them on his back this year.

I got a call from someone with the Pistons today.

Apparently one of their coaches named Gar Heard played at OU from 66-70 and they had no photo's or footage of him and they were giving us a call to see if we had any pictures of him we could send over.

It was kind of weird talking to someone from The Detroit Pistons.....

I *hate* Yahoo's "next day" policy when it comes to making roster moves on your fantasy teams - I tried to open up a spot for Jamal Crawford to come off the IL in my league (I hadn't checked the team in a while) for last night's Phoenix game, but he doesn't hit the roster until today...meaning that I just left a 40 point game on the bench.

Holy fuck Vladimir Radmanovic had one of the sickest nights I've ever seen a 3 point shooter have against my Lakers. LA was ahead by 10 at one point in the game, then Radmanovic starting hitting 3's... again... and again... and again... I started wondering when they were going to start covering him beyond the arc, but there he was.. again and again...

He was 8 out of 14 from 3 point range, and at one point in the game, I believe it was like with 8 or 9 minutes left, he was 8 out of 10, but missed his last few attempts. The AP recap made a good point:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Vladimir Radmanovic has been sick for about a week. Maybe that explains why the Los Angeles Lakers gave him so much room on the perimeter -- they didn't want to catch whatever he has.

They should be so lucky.

Radmanovic scored all but two of his 26 points on eight 3-pointers, and the Seattle SuperSonics took command in the third quarter to beat the Lakers 104-93 Tuesday night.

It was still surprising that had it not been for Radmanovic and a host of inopportune turnovers and sloppy defense (particularly on Vlad) that the Lakers had kept it close without Kobe. I can't bear to think what would happen next week against SA without him, though. The Lakers haven't won or lost more than 2 in a row this season, either, and they had a chance for that 3rd game in a row last night. Fuckin a.

I still say that a team with Lamar Odem as the focal point is a better team than one with Kobe Bryant as the focal point.

Not saying Lamar is a better player, because he is not, but he is a better playmaker. I think if you keep Lamar the focal point, Kobe would still put up monster numbers...probably even more. They would be a very dangerous team if they did this. Of course, we know thats not going to happen but hey.

After getting his first LeBron seems to have developed a taste for triple-doubles, in his last 5 games he has two, missed one by 2 assists and was just one rebound from another today.

Following a win against the Spurs the Blazers revert to their oldselves losing again this time to Dallas. It was close but Portland hit something like 15-32 from the line. Some serious changes need to be made including dumping Derek Andersen who misses games with toothaches. At least Miles and Randolph are back in the lineup.

WOOOOO!!! Clippers finally beat the Lakers and all it took was Shaq to be traded and Kobe to get injured.

Anyway Clippers win 105-89, Brand with 28 and 14 for his eight straight double double.

With Kobe out, this game showed Kobe why he made a mistake in not signing with the Clips. Clips got way more talent than the Lakers and I honestly believe Clips would have been championship contenders if he would have joined. Mark Cuban even said that he celebrated when Kobe resigned because if he would have gone to the Clips he felt they would have been the team of the future.

Made a mistake in not signing with the Clips.. heh. I guarentee you the Lakers will win 3 more championships before the Clippers even appear in a Western Conference Championship series.

bwahahaha Pacers lost

Bulls move up to 7th with a 1-game lead

It's kind to dumb to start a "playoff watch" when the All-Star break has even passed yet.

THINK about what he said for just a second...the two teams played tonight, without Kobe being a factor, and the Clippers won decisively. During the offseason, Kobe was choosing between one of these two teams on the court. He's saying that the Clippers are better without Kobe than the Lakers are without Kobe...so imagine if the Clippers DID have Kobe, they could contend for the titles right now, rather than the Lakers who could have to wait a few more years.

P.S. I just noticed yesterday that it slipped my mind to start a new thread for this week, so we'll just use this one and I'll start a new one Sunday.

This was also the same Laker team that was able to be Lebron and the Cavs without Kobe, and had been leading or at least playing Seattle tight (the #1 team in the West now, I think) just a couple days ago before Radmanovic started raining 3's from downtown. The Clippers also have a lot more team chemistry than the Lakers have, hell you could say just about the same thing about any team except maybe the Bobcats, because they're still figuring out how to play together, let alone now without their focal point on offense. Even the threepeat championship Lakers didn't win many games without their focal point on offense at the time (Shaq), same thing goes with these same Lakers.

One win does not automatically make you a better team, is all I'm saying. The Clips have some talent, though. I like the fact that there's a crosstown rivalry heating up now.

Kaman, Brand, Maggete, Bryant, Jaric looks a lot better than the laker squad. plus the Clippers have some depth with Simmons, Livingston, and others that are escaping my mind right now.

And the reason I think the laker will be better with Odem as the focal point is this. Odem's first instinct is to playmake. He passes to keep the offense flowing while Kobe passes because he couldn't score at the time. The fact that Kobe can probably get a shot off anytime he wants makes it hard to tell when not to pass and when too pass. Odem, while not the leading scorer in Miami, was the focal point that allowed Wade, Jones and sometime Caron Butler to play more freely knowing he was doing the things that don't come natural to their game. passing is NEVER going to come natural to Kobe. It just isn't part of his game. With him having the ball most of the time and looking to score most of the time, the offense comes to a standstill. With odem with the ball, people are looking to get open because they know they will get the ball, and Kobe is one of the better players in the league at moving without the ball, which is why he fed off Shaq so well. If they utilized the same philosophy with Odem/Bryant, they woud be a mUCH better team.
