nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 EDIT: Ooops, I forgot to "quote" who I was responding to ... this is in response to cabbageboy's post at the end of the previous page ... sorry. Nothing about 90210 was 90s? How does that make sense? Most of the show's existence ocurred in the 90s, and thus everything about it was 90s related! It's not like they're going to reference other 90s-related things. That's like saying Welcome Back Kotter wasn't 70s. And, having said all that, they DID show things that were 90s-related: the fashion, the music, etc. And I didn't mean to infer that you were too young to remember, but more saying that you just weren't their target audience. If my math is correct, when they were graduating high school, you were in 8th grade (give or take a year) and thus wouldn't identify with them as much as people that were the same age as them. I graduated high school the same year they did, and should have graduated college the same year they did ... so people my age dealt with the prom at the same time, and the stress of going to college the same time, and then the stress of going to the 'real world' the same time. Guest Posada20 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I was glad to see Run Lola Run (98) and Freaks & Geeks (99) on Friday's edition.
Guest netslob Report post Posted January 22, 2005 The shit was also five years ago. How can you be nostalgic about something that just happened? to paraphrase George Carlin: "How can you be nostalgic for a concept like 'a-little-while-ago'?" Does Emma Bunton(Baby Spice) just get cuter with age? it would definitely appear so. and Michael Ian Black is a god among men. how can you hate on your "cool-ass-pal, Johnny Bluejeans"? King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I just watched, most of the series I'll probably watch it all on one of the 20,000 repeats. On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd rate it a 5. It was defnintley better than I Love The 90's, but it had WAY too many panelists (WAY too many unfunny panelists at that). Unlike, I Love the 90's it had it's funny moments. I think this series is broken beyond repair, but a part of me would love to see them do a third I Love the 80's or second I Love the 70's.

Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Hal Sparks fucking owned, MIB I am sick of, isn't Flavor Flav done yet, War more Carlos Alazaqui and GOD DAMN Emma Bunton is much hotter now than she was a Spice Girl. Also during the Wonderbra segment Hal Sparks acting like an insect was the best moment.

Eh, for the past 5 years he's been begging to do stuff like this. It really is right up his alley. But, I agree on the talking like a wuss thing. He makes it sound in his articles that he and his gang are these tough cool guys, but after seeing him and hearing him, I kind of picture a bunch of tools sitting around playing dungeons and dragons. Makes it a little harder to read his articles the same way now.

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Well, I saw one of these things (I think it was '95) -- not as bad as I thought, but that's not saying much. These hippie shows are more about the people talking about the 80s/90s/00s, than the actual events themselves...
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Actually, Bill Simmons has made fun of the way he talks, so when he ended up sounded like he did, it came as no suprise. Also, he mentioned that he wanted to go I love the 90's/80's, but I think they only used for sports related things. I was disapointed that there was not Beavis and Butthead. I like these shows for reminding me how silly yesteryear was.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Nl5x, I don't think you quite grasp my comments on 90210. Yes I know the show's existence was during the 90s, but it wasn't particularly a 90s type show. Let's face it, a bunch of Beverly Hills rich fucks going to HS and college is more of an 80s concept than anything. It might as well be Less Than Zero. I'm just saying 90210, while certainly a more popular show, wasn't as representative of the 90s as My So Called Life. If you watch My So Called Life you would say "That is a totally 90s show." 90210? It could be 1988 or 89 and no one would have noticed any difference. Anyway, as a whole I don't understand the selections for these shows. For instance, why talk about Cliffhanger in 1993? Yeah it is a fun movie but there is nothing particularly 90s about it, as in it doesn't really date or anything (whereas stuff like Commando would be a totally 80s musclehead actioner). Also, I love True Romance but the movie was hardly anything people SAW or cared about at the time....it grew in popularity over a decade. And yet in the 93 show there was no mention of Beavis and Butthead? I don't understand this at all, that was a no brainer to mention. Also, am I the only one who was pissed that in the 94 show they talked at length about the Cranberries yet no mention of the punk revival (Green Day, Offspring, etc) of that time period? kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 I doubt this, but perhaps they talked about these things in I love the '90s, part uno...
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 I watched most of 90-94 but have yet to see 95-99 I was glad to see them show in 94, the Rangers winning the stanley cup cuz Its a moment that sticks in my head forever as the first time any of my hometown teams won when I cared about sports giants in 86 and 90 dont count as I didnt know really what football was at the point lol great moment that happened just a month before I moved to cali I still have my rangers cap my late uncle bought for me during the playoffs anyhow wasnt it weird how they covered tales from the crypt in 94? i mean the show had been on since 89 they shouldve mentioned it in 90 by 94 the show was nearing its last legs. I loved there coverage of kindergarten cop "arnold must regret that line, you just know one day if he ever gets cancer the headlines will read 'Yea Its a tumor!'" ( i forgot who said that help?) that had me rotfl as did the talk about the atlanta braves tomahawk chop being racist "You know we don't get upset when the Pittsburg Jew-Boys do the money squeeze" great stuff here

The first one was talked about in the first series. The second subject, eh, they covered grunge and Woodstock #2 but that was about it. Punk rock is kind of beyond the scope of VH1. Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 Saw the 95 and 98 episodes.Patrice O'Neil can be really funny, and the Modern Humorist guys are great, IMO. With that out of the way, the segment about "Run Lola Run" (One of My Favorite Movies) was lame, and pretty much a bunch of recycled, boring jokes about Germans and Germany. Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 Anyway, as a whole I don't understand the selections for these shows. For instance, why talk about Cliffhanger in 1993? Yeah it is a fun movie but there is nothing particularly 90s about it, as in it doesn't really date or anything (whereas stuff like Commando would be a totally 80s musclehead actioner). What I'm confused about is why talk about 'I Would Walk 500 Miles' but not the movie that made it popular [or is it vice versa?]. Instead they discuss 'Whats Eating Gilbert Grape', which I missed, but I'm guessing they mostly discussed the one woman's weight? Pfft... if thats the case, I'm glad I missed it. Anyway, while I'm usually a fan of these shows, this last batch was a total waste to me. I taped a few things, yeah, but barely anything in comparison to the last time. MIB was tolerable for the other shows, but for here, they tried FAR too much with him. I remember on one of the 'RAW on...' segments, it was comprised of him mostly staring blanky into the camera. Considering there's only an hour for the show, this inclusion seemed completely senseless.

Everyone I talk to enjoyed it and a lot of critics seemed to like it, as well. {80% Fresh on the Tomatometer} That it would do so terribly is quite a surprise.
