I think the banning was an overreaction, yes. People certainly shouldn't go around making comments like that loosely, but it is an opinion he honestly expressed. It would be different, of course, if someone were to make actual threats against the lives of the PResident and VP. In that case, such a person should be banned and reported to the authorities.
