Possible terrorism threat in Boston or New York...

The FBI has triggered a massive manhunt for six people -- four Chinese and two Iraqis -- who may pose a terrorist threat to the city of Boston, law enforcement officials briefed on the threat said today.

The six are suspected of having come into the United States from Mexico, and may have headed to New York and then to Boston, the target of a planned attack that could involve a lethal substance, possibly chemical or biological or explosive, three law enforcement officials briefed on the threat said.

The tip about the threat was given to the FBI by only one person, the officials said, and it had not been corroborated as of this afternoon.

"It's being worked aggressively and shared with our law enforcement partners,'' FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkewicz said.

The state Emergency Management Agency has partially activated its emergency response team, with representatives from the Department of Public Health, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the State Police monitoring the situation in the emergency bunker in Framingham until the threat has passed.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press is reporting that a federal law enforcement official has stressed the tip is one of many from around the country that routinely are forwarded to local task forces for further investigation. No credible, specific terror threat has been identified in connection with the tip about suspects possibly entering the country from Mexico.

The AP said the investigation prompted Gov. Mitt Romney, who was in Washington to attend Thursday's presidential inauguration, to return to Boston later Wednesday evening, his spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom said. The governor planned to hold a news conference in Washington Wednesday night to discuss the matter before returning home.

FBI spokeswoman Marcinkiewicz said the terror alert had not been raised for Boston.

The AP also reported among the law enforcement agencies alerted was the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, where Deputy Chief Paul MacMillan told the AP that an "alert bulletin" was issued to its officers, as well as subway, train, bus and station workers to be on the lookout for the individuals.

"There is no specific threat or target indicated," he said, declining to discuss the details further.

How convienient too it mentions Mexico, which all the right wing talk show hosts rant about shutting down the Mexican border as if it should be our #1 priority.

They've cried wolf so many times about possible terror threats I don't think anyone even listens anymore. Especially when they're as vauge and as void if information as this one.

Yeah I mean how convenient is it to come up with a "terrorist warning" right before a big opposition is going to be out in full force, with police and law enforcement just itching for a reason to dispearse the gas.

This is bad, but not nearly as awful as Ohio declaring a terrorist warning on the election day in order to stop the process of getting the proper provisional ballots.

i have no desire whatsoever to know about possible or aborted terrorist attacks in the city i live in, because they will accumulate in my brain and scare the shit out of me. as long as they don't or haven't happened, i'm perfectly content to be ignorant of them.

I hope they do start beating some hippies and giving them the gas. It makes my day. I'd have to jerk off at least 3 times in a row to get rid of the hard on I would get from watching people being beaten down.

Mmm... a hippie beating jerk. That's a good jerk right there.

Could it perhaps be the fact that generally you guys schedule massive protests around important and well-known dates, making them fairly large, slow-moving targets? Lord knows that it being Inauguration Day might be the reason that a terrorist attack is being cited.

You guys?

I don't see why they mention this, especially when the bad dudes haven't been caught yet. It would be bad for Bush's image on Homeland Security or whatever, and the fact that they might be out there, makes it worse.

Believe it or not, this shit has happened before. Around days when the largest anti-war protest is planned, the feds raise the color chart, and of course, they'll never tell you why straight to you. Then, at the big public hearing before the protest, someone inevitably says "We're at code orange now, isn't it inappropriate to hold a large protest?"

Actually, if they wanted this terrorist threat to have any tie-in to the inaugeration, they probably would have used DC as the suspected point of attack. Leading me to believe that the Bush-bashers are yet again barking up the wrong tree.

And, it was funny, Mayor Mumbles Menino made some crack about the terrorist warning being a Republican ploy during some Hillary Clinton speaking thing here in Boston ... his joke went over like a fart in church.

Largest protest ever? Thousands of people in the streets, with little to no protection? Hey, that sounds like an EXCELLENT target to me.

I swear, some people could turn a Great White Shark eating the leg of a surfer into a battle between Democrats and Republicans.

I'm starting to pray for a fluff article.

Ready for somemore good news? My fathers best friend works for the gas company up here. He has to go to all these meetings all the time with fire chiefs, cops, town officials etc. Last thursday the FBI supposedly showed up to their meeting. What I got from this was that a company called BUXTON OIL had one of their trucks stolen a week ago.. Also their have been 5 garbage trucks stolen in the past month or so. Don't know much more about it, but the Feds were REAL interested in finding if their is a link.

Shock of shocks, this too has turned out to be bullshit .

I guess it provided a sufficent level of BOOGA BOOGA during the Inauguration, and like so much else that the government does these days the truth of it all being baloney will be forgotten in a couple of days.

edit: fixed my crappy spell0ring
