The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

I think the Panthers, Falcons and Vikings become favorites for the NFC if the Eagles don't have Owens, and honestly the Cowboys could make a run at the NFC East.

The Eagles are still a playoff team without TO, obviously, but losing him kills any hopes they have of winning the Superbowl.

Is Philly's defense going to be as good as last season's, or seasons prior? I'm curious, because all I ever hear about Philadelphia is T.O. this, T.O. that.. But has there been any turnover anywhere else on the team to warrant the talk about Philly really taking a step down this year?

Remember Philadelphia still dominated during the last part of the season and throughout the playoffs without Owens, so why all the talk about "oh Philly's going to take a tumble without T.O."? I know losing Pinkston hurt a little as well, but this just sets the stage for Greg Lewis to have a breakout year...

I would also not put it past New Orleans to grab a spot in the playoffs in lieu of the Panthers or Falcons either..

I would..

When the hell did Greg Lewis become some "breakout player" waiting to happen? He's a fucking undrafted guy who's never been anything more than below average in his career. Yes, he caught a TD in the Superbowl, but I certainly don't think that constitutes such hype. Larry Brown picked off 2 passes and won Superbowl MVP and after that he fell off into obscurity.

Why? They are returning to simplified play-calling. They should see some improvement. And considering they were a St. Louis loss away from making the playoffs, that probably indicates a possible playoff appearance.

During last year's playoffs and at times during the regular season. I've watched a lot of games with Lewis in, and everytime he comes in with the 4-WR set that they had last year with T.O./Mitchell/Pinkston/Lewis, teams always had to double up on Owens and watch Lewis. He was a major deep threat, and the fact that he has to step into the #1 receiver role now with the three guys ahead of him gone, being a real team player and having established a good rapport with McNabb, I just think Lewis is going to have a good year, at least 1000 and 10.

And of course you recall that not only did Larry Brown fall off into obscurity, but so did the Cowboys after their last Super Bowl... (they haven't won a playoff game since, if memory serves me right...)

I'm really disappointed about Pinkston. Yeah he was a wuss but I think he was shedding that at the end there. He really appeared to be getting better and had a man's performance in the Super Bowl.

The only reason Lewis got catches is because after Owens/Mitchell/Pinkston/Westbrook/LJ Smith he was the last guy they were worried about.

AT LEAST 1,000 and 10? If he gets 1,000 yards and 10 TD's combined in the next 3 years I'll be shocked.

Right, and I'm saying that Lewis is going to be McNabb's #1 target this season, which should warrant him putting up those kinds of numbers if he has any hint of talent, which he's shown that he has a shitload of potential in the limited action he's received. There's also Reggie Brown, the second round pick they took this year at receiver, and between the two of them, they've been taking the majority of reps in practice.

Well we shall see but most WR's take 2-3 years to fully understand the offense and the pro game.

Not to say that they won't just torch people because there is that possibility.

Without Terrell Owens and Todd Pinkston, defenses will be able to key in on Greg Lewis as he is the only other viable threat left at wide receiver. The guy I think will have a big season if Owens leaves is Brian Westbrook, I wouldn't be surprised to see him have 1,000+ rushing yards and 1,000+ receiving yards. Has that ever happened before?

Roger Craig did it with the 49ers in `85, and Marshall Faulk did it with the Rams in 1999.

This whole TO thing just baffles me. The guy's in his early 30's, and wouldn't he learn to mature at all? I was watching a Dallas/49er's game, and whose that guy that hit TO when he did a taunt in the middle of the star? Dallas's last playoff win was against Minnesota in the Wildcard, and got upset by the Panthers. The next year, they lost to rival Arizona Cardinals, in '99 they got trounced by Minnesota, and their last appearance was a wildcard loss to the Panthers in 2003.

Jason White's done-

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Heisman Trophy winner Jason White ended his professional career Thursday, citing his weak knees.

White, who had been competing for a spot as the third quarterback with the Tennessee Titans, said he has the head and heart to play in the NFL, but not the knees.

"It's always been a dream of mine, but certain things won't allow me to chase that dream," White said. "It's kind of out of my hands at this point."

White won the Heisman in 2003 and led Oklahoma to back-to-back BCS title games. He is Oklahoma's career passing leader with 7,922 yards and in touchdown passes with 81.

He joined the Titans in May as an undrafted rookie after an audition with the Kansas City Chiefs did not lead to a contract offer.

White said he was still feeling the effects of reconstructive surgery on both knees while he was in college.

"I always had trouble, even in the summer, dropping back when practice wasn't every day," he said. "Now that practice was every day it got to the point where one of my knees was super sore, so I started favoring it with the other one. Then the other one started hurting. I took a couple of days off this week and it hasn't really changed."

He said he informed coach Jeff Fisher of his decision Wednesday night.

TO comes off like a complete closet case. Always showing off his hawt body, whining like a scorned lover against Jeff Garcia, staying in San Fran for most of his career, throwing DIVA like tantrums, and he's never been married but has one son.

"I just saw the gayest guy on earth" - Anal Cunt

If TO came out of the closet tomorrow and told the world he was homosexual (and then filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit against the Eagles and the NFL), I would not be shocked at all.

That's the full story on the Titans website.

During the draft Coach Stoops told him that he always has a place on his coaching staff for Jason just like Josh Heupel.

If the man can't physically make it then he can't make it. It makes me wonder how much his knees were bothering him last season even though he claimed to be fine.

And how the hell was he able to throw for as many yards and TDs, win as many games, and win as many awards in just 2 years with bum knees? And on top of that he was a freaking option QB before the knee injuries. This guy baffles me. He has this ability to bounce back. So that's why I'm positive he'll be a great coach at OU.

I don't know if you have knee problems or what Dama, but I can not imagine going through what I understand to be the rigors of a college career on two bad ones. I have had 3 surgeries on my right knee and respect the hell out of anyone who can have as productive a career as White did at OU despite having such bad ACL injuries. The NFL is a different beast than college though, and having the kind of injuries that he had would definitely limit you there. He probably just got tired of waking up every morning and barely being able to walk first thing...

How about this scenario:

Chargers w/Terrell Owens as #1 WR vs. the Eagles w/Hines Ward as #1 WR in the Super bowl

So, could it happen?
