Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I don't know about LOW2, but in Showdown, the gameplay has a ridiculous amount of horrible glitches, but it's still fun to play because of the legends and the awesome survivor and 4 team tag matches. I feel SOOOOOO guilty for enjoying Showdown, but then again I get a kick out of playing RoboCop, too.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Showdown wouldn't be bad at all if not for the glitches that ruin it. I still keep LOW2 since it's basically the same game w/ a smaller roster, more generic arenas, but far less glitches. Plus, LOW2 has some decent little shoot interviews in the game. Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Now that Acclaim is out of business, I would love to see someone pick up the LOW licence and just see what they can do with it. Of course, the dream would be for AKI to get involved, but I guess EA has them fairly well locked down – unless their side deal with Bandai somehow allows them to work on other pure wrestling products (well, Kinnikuman wasn't exactly pure wrestling, but it wasn't a pseudo-fighting game like Def Jam). Anyway, I just think it's a shame to let the licence die – there's so much that can be done with it.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 So, this game comes out March 8? Anyone planning on picking it up right away? Personally, I'm going to wait until there are a few reviews out, to see if it's really worth getting. RAW 2 was OK, but WM21 is going to have to be significantly better for me to drop 50 bucks on it. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 I don't follow game reviews for wrestling. Video game reviewers don't look for the same things in a wrestling game that I do. I will rent it before I buy it.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2005 Who cares? Maybe you should. I agree, buy a game because you like it, not because some wannabe, know-it-all thinks that the Bashams moveset is not as perfect as it could be. Personally, my friends and I loved Raw 2. And Smackdown! Vs. Raw. But honestly, the games are all the same now. In my opinion, the best game ever for a WWF/WWE game is WrestleMania 19 for GameCube. But obviously some people love SDvR, No Mercy, etc. But that's just me. It has the "No Mercy" feel to it. No season though, but the best matches. It's YOUR money, buy a game cause you like it, not cause Pimple the Net Writer likes it.

Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 I bought Day of Reckoning simply because I couldn;t wait for SvR to come out, and boy did I regret that decision. SvR was a disappointment, too many meaningless bells and whistles, not enough significant improvements. I went back to HCTP, since I have had the most fun with that game. While playing it I come up with ideas on how to fix the game and make it much better, but alas, there is no way that I'll be listened to.

Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Thanks Rip. And any wrestling fan who posts on a smart forum and calls a reviewer a "wannabe, know-it-all" or "Pimple the Net Writer" is not only a fucking idiot, but also has no comprehension of irony. They "upgrade" their wrestling games by adding nicer graphics and little things that make the game seem cooler but when it comes time to improve something like story or gameplay, they don't touch it. So thats why I'm pretty happy that a different company is making Wrestlemania 21. I'm just hoping they don't fuck the game up like Yukes screwed up the Raw series. Anyone with Xbox live up for making a Smartmark wrestling fed?

I was/am thinking about getting it or this. I liked WM19(or what ever it was last year for the cube) outside of the "revenge" mode(which grew on me when I made a incredible hulk character and just beat the shit out of people on those stages) but the gameplay and matches were great to me. Was DOR worse?

Was DOR worse? DOR is definitely better than Mania, and still the best WWE grappler going for diehard fans of No Mercy (since this is the probably the closest to the No Mercy style we're ever going to get outside of a Def Jam – moreso, in fact, when compared to the underachieving Fight For NY). Revenge mode is GONE, replaced with a simple and linear, but halfway enjoyable career mode (note: it's the usual career setup where you take a weedy CAW through a season, powering him up, rather than being able to choose an existing worker). CAW is as good as ever, most of the moves from the departed stars (i.e. Lesnar) are there, and overall it's worth a pickup.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2005 Wait, just a point of clarification. Yukes DID NOT make the Raw games. It was Anchor and they were responsible for those UFC games. Unfortunately, no selling finishers is acceptable if you are fighting the Undertaker or HHH. I hope WM 21 is good.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 How similar is WM 21 to the old engines on N64, the No Mercy, WM2000, Revenge, etc. By the way, someone mentioned this game company making a UFC game, are there any MMA games that are good out there? I was thinking of buying one myself, but didn't feel like wasting my money. Even a rental?
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 I've played one of the UFC games at a friend's house. I found it to be fun. The matches are quick and I'm not sure if the styles of the fighters accurately reflect their real-life counterparts or not but it passed the time well and I believe he got it for $20. For that price, I think it's worth it.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2005 I was thinking of UFC Tapout 2 for the XBOX, or even a K1 game, anyone try these out?
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2005 I haven't enjoyed the UFC games. The K-1 game for PS2 is awesome, imo. The best fighting game I've played.

I am usually in total agreement with you on most things, Spree, but here I have to completely disagree. The action is too slow, and the CAW palette is horrible. I actually liked the story mode, and if the companies involved would acutally *listen* to the gamers' crituques and complaints (aside from the 7-12 year old gamers that they target). They could affix multiple storylines, starting with building a CAW from scratch that and then putting him in more storylines according to level of experience (IE: Superstar Points) and any titles he owns. Also, I LOVED the multiple finishers, but those two factors were not enough to forestall my dislike for the game.

Also, I LOVED the multiple finishers, but those two factors were not enough to forestall my dislike for the game. I'm glad I didn't do a full review of it now! I agree that the speed of your CAW in story mode is piss slow until you get your stats bumped up, but I found it fine apart from that. Maybe I'm just hazy, as it has been a fair while since I last played it. I got along fine with the CAW as well – I don't know, maybe there was stuff missing that I just never needed. As long as I can get a Superman curl on Scott Hall, I'm pretty happy. And I managed to put my tattoo on my CAW of myself, so I really can't complain. After a while it just got silly and I started making CAWs just to make my girlfriend laugh – I've got a stable fo everyone from Rick Deckard to Captain Jack to Ville Valo (in mah sig). But I never found it too limiting – might just be me. Different strokes, different folks! I didn't get a chance to do any fiddling with Mania 21's CAW, so I really can't comment on that, but Gigante have done an awesome job with just about every aspect of the game, so I'm sure that this will be the same. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2005 I'll prolly rent this one out before I buy it. I know what you mean about making CAWs that are a self-portait. I just could not do that with DoR despite taking a long time in trying... and I got pretty far in the Season Mode to where my namesake CAW was doing fairly well, but even at full speed I found it too slow... Ah well, one man's trash, another man's treasure. And I miss your DVD reviews.
