kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 Back in the early '90s, I HATED the Cowboys, but I always liked Emmitt because he seemed like a class act. Sure many people (including me) won't think he's better than Payton and Sanders, but that's because Smith was part of a great team (with an AWESOME O-line), not the go-to guy on a bad-to-average team. I thought he should have retired instead of moving to AZ, but he did have a productive final couple of seasons, so I have no problem with it...
Ripper 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 Emmitt also had a better line, not to mention much better support then Barry, in the great passing game they also had. A line with Stepnoski, Allen, etc. etc. INSANE. This gets tiresome... look at the pro bowl teams from the years that Barry played for the Lions. They had at least one, and many times two players in the Pro Bowl EVERY YEAR. Thats the second time you made that argument and once again I point out that the Lions were great at standing up and protecting QBs. Thats why their shitty QBs had such great longevity. They were getting props for not giving up sacks. but what seemed to be cool was letting Barry get met 5 yards behind the line, because he could handle himself. MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 I'm a Bills fan, so I HATE the Cowboys, but I've always respected Emmitt. A great career, and a first ballot Hall Of Famer.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 Up until the end there, I was afraid that everyone had forgotten about Eric Dickerson, until KOAB restored my faith in humanity. I thought about including Dickerson in my list of top RBs, but I really don't think he's top 10 of all time ... 10-20, yes, but top 10, no.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 So Emmitt Smith actually did retire, as a cowboy in fact. HOW do you feel about that?
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Goody, now Bettis won't retire. FUCK.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Barry Sanders isn't the best based on numbers, he's the best based on the fact that he did the most with the least. He had better moves and played better then either Emmitt or Walter, football is not a sport where one person can carry a team. I would say that Jim Brown is the best ever, but I would place Barry at Number Two for sure. Paragon gets a gold star for being the first to mention Jim Brown. He's so far ahead of everyone else it's not even funny. Sanders is my #2, pretty far behind JB but further ahead of #3 than he is behind #1 (if that makes sense) 3-5 is tough, because there's a laundry list of players that deserve consideration: Smith, Faulk, Thurman Thomas, Curtis Martin, OJ, Marcus Allen, etc. I'd probably go Emmitt, Faulk, and then OJ as my 3-5. /wonders where Bo Jackson would have fit if he stayed away from baseball and stayed healthy Okay, so you just said 1 Jim Brown 2 Barry Sanders 3 Emmitt Smith 4 Marshall Faulk 5 O.J. Simpson And in your list of people all vying for 3-5, Curtis Martin was in the hunt and Walter Payton wasn't? I know shit about football and even I can tell something is wrong. Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 And the thing is... he had TERRIBLE teams around him for most of his career. Again I say that I wish I could find some Jim Brown games to compare, but until I see Brown play, Payton is the best ever in my eyes. Ripper, how about we just agree to disagree? Theres no way either of us are going to convince the other to change his mind eh?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 Emmitt had an emotional press conference and then Skip Bayliss decided to suggest he wasn't genuine and that he was just acting. Then he tried to undermine the end of Emmitt's career.
