Purple Rain the movie has a bunch of great musical performances and is a really goofy movie otherwise. Incredibly fun to watch. As for YPOV's questions about other albums, you can't go wrong with Dirty Mind, Prince's first really great album, or Sign o' the Times, his 2-disc opus. The Hits collections (there are 2 of 'em) are also good if you want all his big singles in one place.
