Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Southern California assistant Norm Chow was hired as offensive co-ordinator of the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday after helping the Trojans win two consecutive national championships. He was to be introduced at a morning news conference, Titans spokesman Robbie Bohren told The Associated Press. Chow replaces Mike Heimerdinger, who was hired as the New York Jets' offensive co-ordinator last month. This is his first job in pro football after 32 seasons at BYU, North Carolina State and USC. ''I'm fired up - it's an exciting opportunity to get into the highest level of football,'' Chow told the Los Angeles Times. ''But my family is very, very sad to leave USC because it's been such a great run.'' Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher, a USC alumnus, also interviewed assistant head coach George Henshaw and quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson from his own staff. Chow, 58, joined USC in 2001 and was the team's offensive co-ordinator, tutoring Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. At BYU, Chow worked with quarterbacks such as Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, NFL star Steve Young and Chicago Bears QB Jim McMahon - a former teammate of Fisher's. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Why sign as O-Coordinator for a losing NFL team when you could reign supreme at USC?...
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 It's Co-ordinator? I always thought it was coordinator. And if any team needs a redesigned offense, it's the Titans. Plus if McNair retires, they might be looking at Carson Palmer in the draft.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Well not to nitpick, but this was the first Titans REALLY bad season in a long time. I mean, I would understand not signing to, say, cleveland, but the Titans were a good team that could have just been going through a rough year.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Yeah, but they're getting old and being in a division with Jax and Indy doesn't help matters...

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Yeah, if you're looking for Carson Palmer in the draft, I think filling the gap at offensive coordinator is the least of your problems.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Why does the Titans need a new QB if McNair retires? I thought Volek would do just fine with the helm the few times he had to step up to the plate.

Yeah really. They did make the playoffs four times from '99-'03 It's kinda like how people are calling Miami a bad team despite the fact their previous losing season was in '
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Damn white boys from USC all look alike. You know the one, the one that won that worthless piece of bronze.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I would say Billy Volek is the QB of the future for the Titans. They need defensive players more than anything.

You're talking about Matt Leinhart, then. I don't even follow college football and I knew that. The Titans seem to have upgraded at the position, but who knows how well Chow will do in the NFL? Fökai 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 I'm just hoping he can salvage an offense that will now be comprised of an average quarterback, an average running back and a receiving corps that is now without any true receivers. EDIT: The Titans are an estimated $26 million over the cap, about $10 million more than the next closest (Dolphins) and $22 million away from #27 (Steelers). No one of stature on their team is a free agent, so they have to figure out how to get under the cap before March 2nd. Maybe the strategy for the Titans is to draft the entire USC team, and have Carroll and Chow meet them in the NFL.

Making fun of myself for being a moron and confusing him with Palmer. Chow has a very NFL style offensive system so it should translate just fine. He just needs the personal to make it work. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Was he eligible for the draft? Is there such a thing as being too late to declare your eligibility?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Was he eligible for the draft? Is there such a thing as being too late to declare your eligibility? I think he just missed the cut off date, which would be a reason to be pissed since he could feel USC suckered him and conspired behind his back to keep him. New offensive system to learn could REALLY hurt him and his draft status. So it's a reason for him to be worried and regretting his decision.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Corps. Not corp. Not core. Corps. Bah. At least I didn't say core. And at least you didn't defend "core": "Well, it's the core of the team, that you build around." The best defense of terrible English was this guy I knew saying "debut" was "dayview." "It's the day of the view. Dayview."

USC isn't going to implement a new system, they are promoting Lane Kiffen(who was the "Passing Game Coordinator" last year) up to Offensive Coordinator. They're keeping the same offense. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2005 Well USC still has the talent to remain on top but in the long run they may be screwed. I heard that Chow was upset b/c he didn't think that Caroll gave him his just due. Supposedly(and this is what i heard on ESPN radio) Chow has a huge ego and wants it stroked at all times and Caroll didn't stroke it enough.
