the pinjockey Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Ashburn and Kalas obviously. Also, I liked Mike Emrick/Bill Clement when they were doing the Flyers game. I really like them now that Steve fucking Coates is in the booth.
JJMc Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 McDonough/Remy What happened to McDonough? Was he not re-newed or something? Orsillo has been doing the ch. 38 games so far this spring.
NoCalMike Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Bill King & his co-host( I think his name is Ken Korack) are awesome. Bill King also used to call Raiders games back in the day. His "HOLY TOLEDO" is a classic.
KingPK Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 McDonough/Remy What happened to McDonough? Was he not re-newed or something? Orsillo has been doing the ch. 38 games so far this spring. Yep, they let him go. Orscillo was cheaper, basically. Sean's doing a lot of ESPN stuff now (mostly college sports). Orscillo's grown on me, but that might be because Remy is a good match with him. I also prefer Sean/RemDog over Don/RemDog, though.

KingPK Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 No, I think the Red Sox dumped him after the season in favor of Orscillo. I remember reading that Sean was really hurt at the Sox dropping him after all the years as their TV voice. Did he sign a new contract and I just missed it?
Guest Mosaicv2 Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 That would suck... I enjoy him calling all particular games, the Sox need him back.
the max Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I know that Sean was only doing Friday Night Baseball on NESN last season, but I didn't hear of him getting dropped. I hope he didn't...I grew up with him announcing the games on WSBK-TV 38. Orsillo isn't bad, but he's no McDonough.
The Czech Republic Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Reynolds, Kruk, old guy doing the spring training baseball games. Reynold and Kruk making arguements on the subject of rebuilding/win now strategy for the Dallas Cowboys among other random rants is the reason why I am watching ESPN right now... This is almost as good as watching Bill Walsh announce NBA games. I presume Old Guy = Gary Thorne and Bill Walsh = Bill Walton Yeah I caught the Harold/Kruk/Thorne team during the Atlanta-St. Louis game yesterday afternoon and they were pretty funny because they didn't appear to give a shit. Also, a funny moment, off topic here sorta, was Dick Vitale giving his final four picks on Sportscenter right before the game. He actually picked Carolina over Duke (!?!?), and when he said "CAROLINA WINS IT, BAYBEE!" he put his hands up in that "I dunno" kind of shrug but with a goofy grin, then he held the pose way too long waiting for them to cut, and they didn't cut for like four seconds. It was hilarious.
the max Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 I was "lucky" enough to hear the Thorne/Karros/Philips broadcasting team, which was mutable. Not as bad as Buck/McCarver, but that's not saying much.
Guest Demon llama Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 for me it was a few years back. NBA: Miami Heat Broadcasts... With Dr. Jack Ramsey and i believe Eric Reed. Ramsey: Mash with the Smash! Ramsey: Ike with the Spike! ER just about had no idea what was going on and feed off Ramsey all game. oh and you just cant forget Monsoon and Ventura as the Best!
CanadianGuitarist Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Though they're no longer together, my brother said, and I quote: "Madden and Summerall. No one else. Not even close."
The Czech Republic Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Hey, Steve Stone is calling the Los Angeles Angels-Chicago White Sox game over on the deuce. Good to hear Stoney again.
C Dubya 04 Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Ashburn and Kalas obviously. I guess that I'll make this one fifthed. The chemistry that these two had together can never really be duplicated. They were two old friends with a passion for the game working together and it was magic. I'm guessing that from the mid eighties until the late nineties when Ritchie passed, I must have heard them call around 1000 games and enjoyed their work each and every time.
Vern Gagne Posted March 15, 2005 Author Report Posted March 15, 2005 Hey, Steve Stone is calling the Los Angeles Angels-Chicago White Sox game over on the deuce. Good to hear Stoney again. Deuce meaing ESPN2, or some local Chicago station?

The Boston Herald ran that story you mentioned. He said the Red Sox ripped his heart out.
