VIDEO GAMES CAUSE PEOPLE TO KILL

Recommended Posts

Eh, a few months ago, someone got stabbed IN THE HEAD in T-Town (that's what we Alabamaners call Tuscaloosa, probably because we can't spell it), probably over football. That's a much cooler story, but you kids and your damn video games are ruining it.

I hate when parents use video games as the scapegoats for this. I remember when I wanted to buy GTA3, my mom was worried for a bit, because she heard about the game on TV. My mom seriously thought that I was gonna go out, some how acquire a gun, and kill cops. Now, she could care less. A game is just a game now.

Attorney Jack Thompson? The same Jack Thompson who jumps all over every videogame-blamed crime in America?

If memory serves, he's won approximately none of these cases.

Good point. Let's not bemoan the loss of personal responsibility until someone actually wins one of these cases.

WHO THE FUCK CARES WE ALL KNOW HOW YOU ALL FEEL GODDAMNIT ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111oneone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twas a parody of all the people that post in caps and swear throughout in overreaction.

I'm disappointed that you're singling me out like this, especially when you missed the point.

It's okay, I still think you're the best mod on the board

I can't believe anyone's really suggesting this thing has some validity. They could sell all the video games they wanted to minors, and at the most, the the store that sold it would be subject to a small fine.

BTW, when I was 13, I bought the Slim Shady LP from Wal-Mart, and nobody questioned it. It had the little label on it and everything. Oh, and it didn't hurt my mind either; it just introduced me to good rap.

Maybe because you bought a censored version of the SLim Shady Lp which basically means you bought about a hour of silence.

ANd I remember this guys brother had a camera following him around because he was trying to make it in NFL i believe (it might have been NBA) and he got the call about his brother doing this and he had a tough decision to make. Well...the narrator said he had a tough decision to make. His reaction was basically "well...thats his fuck up. I gotta play". Thats all I have to add about this.

A Barry Silver was on The Abrams Report last night, along with another attorney and was trying to state his case for why the companies should be liable...

The guy was totally owned for free. He couldn't come up with a single cogent legal argument for winning the suit.

Up until now, the suits have all failed because the courts ruled that you can't hold 3rd parties liable in a situation like this, and that the games are indeed rated and aren't meant to be sold.

All he could say was "OMG THIS IS DIFFERENT" and "OMG, THEY'RE MARKETED TO MINORS JUST LIKE BEER AND CIGARETTES! ARE YOU SAYING THERE SHOULD BE NO LIMITS TO HOW THESE COMPANIES POISON OUR CHILDRENS' MINDS?!"

Just weak-ass emotional appeals and nothing substantial. My business law professor could bitchslap that guy in court before he's even had his morning coffee.

I can honestly say I have played a few games that made me want to kill. That Manslaughter game and its stupid ass cameras, those old WCW games, No Mercy this one time where I basically killed the computer for 20 minutes and he beat me with a leg whip, this one time in college hoops where I blew a 17 point lead and they fouled out all my good players.

Yeah...I could take a mutha fucka out after that.

Why were you playing as UNC?

No, as BJU.

Yep. They weren't allowed to do crossovers or shoot three pointers because the bible specifically forbids that.

I once got sick from eating a mushroom I found growing in a brick. Nobody sued Nintendo.

Did the brick have a question mark on it. Did the mushroom appear after you headbutted it? Well then, you had no case, son.

If you tried to tell me what was or wasn't appropriate for my child, I'd likely tell you to fuck off.

Just sayin'

With the new rating system though employees are suppose to bring it to the attention of parents and more importantly grandparents who are usually the ones that kids sucker into getting them things. I know I did when I was little.

Nor would I be stupid enough to let my child to play any of the GTA games. Not just because they aren't appropriate but because I don't play them either because I think they're a joke.

Liar. You don't play them cause you don't know how to work the machine.

Video Game that Causes People to Kill

That's so calling for a horror movie to be made.

Actually, I read a book years ago about that exact thing. Video Games making people kill.

I think it was called Game Over or something like that...and it involved this new arcade where kids would go and play these really violent games, then they'd go psycho and kill people.

I only remember it because one of the killings involved someone getting their skull smashed in with a hammer, and another involved someone getting run over with a buick multiple times. Like, they ran them over, backed up, did it again, etc.

It was fucked, especially since I think I was still in elementary school when I read it.

And I think I own GTA3 somewhere. It just sucks.

GTA III isn't anything special, but they hit their groove with Vice City. I'm excited about eventually starting San Andreas on the X-Box. Try Vice City though since you can pick it up on the cheap now. Ray Liotta voices the main character.

I've played that. It's better than GTA3 but I'm not into those kind of games. I obviously don't think they encourage people to go and commit crimes but I don't really care for a genre that glorfies it.

I'll stick to hockey. No violence there.

Marilyn Manson makes people kill each other, Vice City makes people kill each other, Natural Born Killers makes people kill each other... is no one thinking these people are gullible overly impressionable idiots with no fucking internal logic or conscience rather than looking to blame a source of entertainment? I have seen Cirque De Soleil but I didn't want to bend myself into a pretzel and juggle flaming objects.

When will people take responsibility and stop passing the buck for being psychos?
